I have decided not to have the vaccine for coronavirus when it is rolled out. I don’t trust the government and will not be used as a pilot. It seems this will be a rushed vaccine (tested-yes) but we will not know the long term side effects until years down the line. I will politely decline the vaccine until I feel fully informed. Anyone else declining it?

OP posts:
Rhianna1980 · 17/04/2020 23:53

I’m sure there will be loads of people, more like billions of people who will be queueing up and would be happy to take the vaccine that you are turning your nose up from.

Truth is there won’t be enough for everyone.

Also you should sign a waiver saying you can’t use a hospital bed etc and that you will stay in self isolation so you won’t infection other vulnerable people.

First world problems. Hmm

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/04/2020 23:54

Night all. I’ll be back on tomorrow

Can't wait Hmm

drcb83 · 17/04/2020 23:55

I had to have the HepB vaccine 3 time to generate immunity - this one may take a couple of doses - we don't know yet how immunogenic it is.

FishOnPillows · 18/04/2020 00:15

I don’t believe there’s any conspiracies around Covid-19, but I’d have to think and research long and hard before having any vaccine for it.

I’m not antivax, and I have all my other vaccinations - but they have years, in some cases decades, of use behind them to back them up. And the fact the Covid-19 one is being rushed through makes me even warier.

DameFanny · 18/04/2020 00:16

Given your username and your statements I'll diagnose you with goady fuckery OP. I recommend a naturopathic self-administered vaccine - go lick a bus stop.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/04/2020 00:18

@drcb83

Did you have issues with other vaccines? DD1 (DC2 of 6) had issues with her first jab that none of the others had, she had a life threatening reaction. But when she started her medical career she had to have her MMR (in seperate doses under clinical supervision) and had exactly the same problem with her HepB.

AvoidingRealHumans · 18/04/2020 00:19

I'm not in any way an anti vaxxer but I'm not sure about this vaccine and probably won't get it if/when I'm offered it.
My children have had their scheduled jabs apart from my 5 year old hasn't had his pre schools.
I do refuse them getting the flu vaccine yearly though because I feel its unnecessary to vaccinate healthy children yearly for something that changes strain every year and the vaccine is based on the previous year.
If they had underlying conditions which would put them more at risk then I probably would get them vaccinated.

Why is someone not allowed to say that they aren't convinced about a rushed vaccine without being jumped on? It's a personal thing surely

NameChangedToProtect1 · 18/04/2020 00:25

Good grief! It's a vaccine, yes you could have an allergic reaction to one of the constituent ingredients but it's highly unlikely. It's far more likely that you are allergic to peanuts or some other food type but you still go to restraunts ! As for long term effects it's a non issue, there is nothing in the science to concern anyone. Do you really think you're going to morph into an alien blob! The thing that worries me is the average inteligence of the British public - Brexit, BOJO and now anti vax nonsense. Do yourself a favour throw away your router and read a book.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/04/2020 00:26

Tinfoil hats clash with my grey hair

I'll have the vaccine, so I can get back to normal life

Bring it on !

And ffs when will people realise John Ioannidis is a professional contrarian, who claims nearly everyone else's research is rubbish - to get attention

He started off minimising COVID - that hasn't aged well

Viviennemary · 18/04/2020 00:28

I'm not having it either. But I'd like to be tested to see if I have had the virus.

Wolfgirrl · 18/04/2020 00:32

@viviennemary

Why bother getting tested? If you haven't had the virus you won't get the vaccine anyway.

I hope you're planning on isolating forever in that case.

Wolfgirrl · 18/04/2020 00:34

@AvoidingRealHumans

What about it is rushed? Can you tell me which part of the development process they are skipping?

MigginsMs · 18/04/2020 00:35

I've been wondering about swine flu!
I never had it and certainly didn't have a vaccine. What happened??

My kids were tiny when swine flu was around and we were all offered (and took) the vaccine, but I know people who declined it

BeetrootRocks · 18/04/2020 00:37

Lol this thread

  1. There is no vaccine
  2. If/ when there is then common decency says that it should be rolled out in other parts of the world first, that have he's fewer resources to cope with the illness

You're WAY ahead of yourself.

Try this post again in 18 months?!

eaglejulesk · 18/04/2020 00:50

Why is this vaccine being rushed? How long do normal vaccines take to develop? Surely the word you want here is “prioritised”?

Quite right, countries all around the world are working on this at the moment and have put other projects on hold.

You don't have to be vaccinated OP - however it's interesting that you don't want to be a guinea pig, but are happy for other people to take the risk so you can benefit in the future.

EYProvider · 18/04/2020 00:54

They gave the swine flu vaccine to under 7’s, as I recall.

I own a nursery, and did at the time, and remember all the children having the vaccination. My own kids were about 8 and 9 at the time, and they didn’t, so it must have been given to under 7’s or younger.

It completely eradicated the disease, and all in a matter of a few months, definitely less than six. This will be the same, I’m sure. The stakes are very high so a vaccine will be found quickly.

Ponoka7 · 18/04/2020 01:22

@BeetrootRocks, the vaccine is being trialed now. The labs are being set up to get it out this winter.
The vulnerable and health care workers should be prioritised, that's common decency. Not just deciding which countries should be prioritised. In most of tgose countries Covid 19 won't be the biggest threat to life. There are lots of life threatening diseases that could be eradicated.

KathyBriggs360 · 18/04/2020 01:29

Any vaccine is going to cause crazy side effects further down the line because of the rush to get it out there. It's going to be horrendous. Not a chance I'm letting them put anything inside me. Other people can get it instead, let them suffer the consequences.

Porcupineinwaiting · 18/04/2020 01:34

Fair enough Kathy , you can have the virus. Which as we are finding out, is also having crazy effects for some lucky people.

naughtycat · 18/04/2020 01:48

@Scienceisgreat76

I guess your not a nurse or doctor working in ITU right now? But I guess if you catch Covid 'naturally' and get ready really sick you will want them to take you in and make you better.

But you're going to isolate and try to avoid Covid until everyone else is immune? Or until we all have the vaccine and you can see how it affects us?

Imagine if everyone else made that same selfish choice??? We would all have to isolate for years, the economy would be destroyed, we would ALL end up living in poverty, so many more will die, the doctors and nurses (they are humans too) and NHS would be decimated.

But, yes, of course, do what you feel is right for you. I think your selfish. And your username really really doesn't suit you either.

naughtycat · 18/04/2020 01:51

@KathyBriggs360

Grin Your post is sarcasm right?!

naughtycat · 18/04/2020 01:57

@Scienceisgreat76

Don't reply to me specifically because I won't be looking at this thread again. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but anti vax propaganda makes me so upset 😭

MitziK · 18/04/2020 02:03

Why is a vaccine being rushed prioritised and expedited in accordance with testing protocols for safety?

Oh, I don't know. Maybe it's something to do with it killing well over 150,000 people so far this year? 10,000 a week over and above the normal death rate on average?

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/04/2020 02:07

Dont try to argue with stupid

We all know that it drags you down to it's own level and then beats you with experience.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 18/04/2020 02:43

Science IS great. Maybe learn some.
