I think next year for abroad. End of August for UK. What do you think?

Supposed to be going to Florida in August!

I would not be expecting this to happen. The US has not even peaked on the initial phase of the virus and already Trump and some state governors are talking about getting back to a 'new normal'. Trump and the Republicans have nothing to lose anymore. I suspect the US will walk into complete complacency and the initial phase will not be contained adequately, with much upheaval ensuing. Most other countries will be in a state of 'trial and error' as they find a way to gradually reopen parts of the economy whilst delicately balancing the economy with minimising lives and protecting health systems, but will manage to do so with stringent protocols in place. I cannot see those protocols extended to international air travel other than for essential goods and essential services, certainly not within 16-20 weeks. The US may even be blacklisted until the November elections as its international credibility is fast sinking. In fact, I can easily see the situation arising where other countries and the EU prevent travel to certain countries and regions indefinitely until they have strong and proven protocols to detect and prevent the spread of the virus. The most visited countries by tourists are historically France, Spain, USA, China and Italy. You only have to look at the daily Covid-19 statistics of those countries to understand why it is too optimistic to assume tourism will re-emerge in 2020. France recorded 4,560 new cases yesterday and the US recorded 30,206. What would tourism even look like in the 'new normal'? With no vaccine and no herd immunity would you even travel on the basis there would be no insurance to cover medical costs?

Until there is an over the counter treatment and/or a vaccine, which country, having endured months of restrictions, is going to let in tourists with unknown CV-19 status?

Then of course, lets say a vaccine is widely available in 2 years time, which airlines/ferries or hotels will still exist?
Plus, well into a global depression only the super rich will be able to travel on their private jets.

What about uk holidays?!

We are supposed to be going Cornwall to a haven site 😩

I think UK holidays will get the green light to coincide with the school holidays, but some form of social distancing will apply though not as tight as it has been. Hotels, caravans and holiday parks will adopt strict hygiene protocols. From October, as we go into the winter, social distancing may be ramped up again, but before then UK holidays will happen but not feel as good as before.

Also, there are poorer countries whre there isn't the health care to cope and maybe only a few ventilators.

We just cancelled our holiday in Austria for July and lost our depositSad, it was just another uncertain thing and I probably wouldn't have be able to enjoy it anyway if we could go and didn't fancy the airport or plane flight too much.

We have booked three UK touring caravan holidays with the Caravan Club in July to October so hope to go on these or at least one of them. we don't lose any money with these if we cancel either. We can be fairly self sufficient in the caravan if we are allowed to go so that's all good.

We have bookings for Majorca in July and Florida in October. I am hoping both will be cancelled and then we can get refunds.
I am hoping to be able to travel abroad by summer 2021.

I was bothered about the CV not being covered as our annual travel insurance when we booked runs out in May (perk from work insurance so similar to a bank one) so we would have had to get a new annual policy which in normal circumstances would most likely have been fine, we booked in early January. The expenses could have run into a lot more than loss of deposit.

I feared it wouldn't be this year for international travel.
But I'm feeling a shift in recent days- hearing more and more people /sources that the consensus that we've had our peak/far far more people than we realise have had it-got over it- are now fine / so many doctors even saying the vast majority of deaths are people that would have passed away in next year anyway/discrepancy in how deaths are being recorded now as being from single source -Corona/how they were recorded before this - not to mention the damage to economy worldwide on travel bans....

I think travel restrictions might lift a lot sooner i.e. end of summer- than we feared.

Haven actually have put a good policy in place that even includes corona cover for 2022. £50 food voucher if you move dates, full refunds. Allowed to cancel even if it’s open but you don’t feels it’s safe for you just as if they where closed.

Problem is for normality to be restored you need restrictions at both ends of the journey to be lifted, not just ex-UK.

The issue with international travel (especially Long haul) will getting a system in place (screening/vaccination/certificates, whatever) that protects the host country from being contaminated by incoming holidaymakers...

Sadly the UK certainly hasn't helped it"s case by appearing in the eyes of nations as being a bit slack in introducing controls, let alone checks...

That’s what I keep saying to my DH about our upcoming holidays.

I’m sure the UK would let us leave the country but I doubt anywhere will let us in Grin

I don't think I will be booking any international holidays for a while yet as the insurance cover will not cover CV and you could end up with extra bills to pay or not be able to get home, I'm sure this will put off many people even if they can go.

UK holidays will be much more popular for a couple of years yet.

Moving back to Ireland from U.K. in June!! May go sooner tbh instead Be an interesting time to travel - hoping il be on an empty enough flight and at least the Ryanair crew won’t be doing any selling - be a relaxing quiet flight for once 😂

I think it's a impossible question to answer. I do think foreign holidays won't be on the cards for this year.

It will also depend on how how the economy recovers. Money may well be very tight for many families so holidays won't be a priority. Airlines may not survive so less flights, and the ones that may be available may be far more expensive than we are used to. Same with holiday companies and other related tourist businesses.

Do you think holiday sites in the U.K. won’t open this year?

@KaptenKrusty

But I thought this is what Ireland didn't want? My mum is very sick and I desperately want to be over there - not a case of going back and forth from London but perhaps go over for a month. Got the impression that Ireland would be reluctant for people to come in from outside (am Irish citizen).

2022 but with restrictions. Until healthcare systems can function smoothly with effective treatments, management of symtom and/or smooth delivery of PPE etc why would holidays be on the list? Hmm

Why do the English care so much about holidays? Honestly, I have lived in several countries and holidays are not such a big thing!

Still waiting for a refund on flights we should have returned on on Wednesday so I'm not looking seriously at anything yet especially as flights in October when we could next go have zoomed in price.

We have postponed a paid up weekend UK break to mid June and are hoping that will go ahead.

You probably mean British, not just English, and have you ever lived in Britain?
