When will we go on holiday again?

Juts as a point of info even under lockdown commuting is still allowed for certain categories of workers across quite a few European borders, ..crossing for shopping less so.

I think how quickly the UK>EU controls are relaxed will very much depend on how the situation develops in the UK as we head into the Summer..

We may be the worst hit European country, it won't be possible to wipe out transmission entirely in the community, and our % may be worse than much of the world. From our perspective, if we open pubs/restaurants and allow social events I can't see what's gained by banning holidays (UK or otherwise) beyond ending the travel industry.

I could fly to Cork - then from Cork airport bus to Cork busarus then from there its direct to Tipp. Or fly to Dublin - Dublin busarus - waterford - tipp or

I’m going to Dublin - so easy enough for me - I will be able to take a Dublin bus or get a lift from a friend / family to where I’m headed!

I believe the other public transports are running on reduced services - your journey would need to be essential (getting yourself home would be essential) they have the buses set up that you can’t sit next to anyone so only half the regular number allowed on the transport . @Asimovsfutureishere2020

See, that is what I am thinking - isolate once I get near my parent's house and then after 14 days I will be able to see them but what about travel from airport/seaport to family area? Are public transport taking people still? Are their restrictions in place on who can use it/travel? I haven't seen anything on buseireann.ie

Will contact dfa.ie on Monday and see what they say.

@Asimovsfutureishere2020 I’m Irish and want to move back home after being in London the last few years.

The plan was always to go home in June - I can’t just stay here I’ve given up my flat and most of my stuff had already gone off back ahead of me ! So last step is for me to go!

Don’t really have another option? Of course I can return to my home country virus or not. Il obviously have to isolate for a few weeks before moving back into my parents house as wouldn’t want to make them sick . My sister has offered me her house as she is at her partners for lockdown.

I think the government will try to keep us near our house through the summer. They will relax restrictions so people can go to parks and playgrounds locally only. You won’t be able to travel internationally in July and August and you cannot have a situation where the whole population goes to Cornwall or other holiday places and the virus is still around. I pine for my holidays😟

It’s a tricky one this isn’t it. Apart from the obvious reasons for not being allowed, Another problem is the lack of available insurance so if you did need treatment abroad you would be knackered financially. This will become an even bigger issue when we leave the EU. If social distancing is needed for a while then I can’t see how they can allow holidays abroad. All this leaving the middle seat free nonsense that easyJet are going on about is not going to protect people on a plane. I would also class a plane as a mass gathering of people both at the airport and on the plane so until they are allowed I can’t see it.

Some industries are going to be in the shit financially following this too and travel could well become one of them. Bearing in mind the lack of clarity and action on refunds, are people going to be happy paying holidays companies £2-3k in the hope it won’t all kick off again? I think a lot of people will be suspicious of doing anything for a while and that we won’t be back to “normal” for at least 12 months, maybe longer.

We would love to go on holiday but not until there's a vaccine / solution. Wouldn't want to go when there's a risk of infecting others / getting ill / being stranded / being quarantined etc / insurance not covering things.

We go enjoy going on holiday to experience things we can't here like wildlife in the wild, rainforest, different cultures, skiing, famous sites, enjoy spending 2 weeks having fun and being together all time as a family. A lot of people go for 2 weeks fun as a family and to get some sun / do things like outdoor waterparks you can't do here. It's a time to relax and have fun without worrying about things in normal times. For a lot of people it's no chores for 2 weeks as well with eating out and room cleaned for you.

I think restrictions will be relaxed June-August, to let people enjoy themselves before the next lockdown in Autumn... with any luck the virus won't do as well in warmer weather but we'll see another peak in autumn/winter.

@Toilenstripes usually because the weather is so rainy and unpredictable in the uk. A lot of people hold out for their fortnight of guaranteed sun somewhere else.

Poor man, especially to fine him as well for trying to see his dying father. Yes I suspect it is who you deal with, when I looked it up there didn't seem to be a clear rule and it's more complicated when abroad.
