I think next year for abroad. End of August for UK. What do you think?

Know one really knows but I'd guess by Aug international flights will be up and running again.

samandpoppysmummy · 14/04/2020 23:55

I have international holidays already booked for this year. They were all booked in January, for mid-July, late August, October half term and Christmas/New Year). I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will still all go ahead.

4forkssake · 14/04/2020 23:56

I have a holiday booked in August & I'm going against what most people want & I'm hoping holidays abroad will still be on hold then. Going away is the last thing I feel like doing, but we were staying for 3 weeks & the flights cost a fortune, so we'll lose a lot of money if we don't go (& yes I know there are some posters who will say if we could afford to go in the first place we haven't lost money, we've lost the holiday, but that loss would mean no more holidays for years &
I'm sure it'd be the same for a lot of people). I'm hoping if international travel is up & running, people will be able to cancel if they don't feel happy going & others who are happy to go on holiday or business travellers or people who need to visit family will be the ones doing the travelling.

@DBML no we are first-timers so very excited staying onsite too, was just about to book Universal tickets when this all kicked off, have 4 DC so it’s going to be v expensive

DBML · 15/04/2020 01:37

@sweetkitty

How exciting! Well it’ll still be there next year if you have to delay. DC is an incredible experience and a super relaxing day...a holiday within your holiday. Hopefully if you have to put it on hold, you can rebook all these tickets for a later date. And if you do have to cancel, you have longer to look forward to your holiday.

It’s not going to be once in a lifetime though, trust me!!!

MyBlueMoonbeam · 15/04/2020 01:47

I can't see package holidays abroad resuming til next summer tbh - I live in Ireland and really hope I can get over to see friends and family in the UK later this year but I won't be surprised if I can't 😖

MadisonAvenue · 15/04/2020 01:52

We’d booked a holiday to the US in 5 weeks, I’ve had an email from Virgin tonight saying that it’s currently still due to go ahead Hmm
We have the option to rebook for a later date but I can’t think of going abroad at the moment and will hold out in the hope that they eventually cancel it so that we can get a refund.

Asimovsfutureishere2020 · 15/04/2020 02:15

I'm wondering about travelling from Uk to Ireland and vice versa too, @MyBlueMoonbeam

July maybe?

JustVisiting9 · 15/04/2020 06:06

I would not want to go abroad, even if restrictions were lifted. The thought of being taken ill overseas fills me with dread. A few years ago a relative was taken seriously ill whilst on a foreign holiday, and it was awful. And that was during normal times when the country's healthcare system was operating normally. Would travel insurance cover COVID medical care? If it did, it would probably be prohibitively expensive.

I'm not sure a UK holiday would be particularly enjoyable either - there would be queues for everywhere, unlikely to be pubs or restaurants open, unable to mix with other people...

I would like to go and visit family in another part of the UK - but I consider that lower risk since I know the family members I would visit have been sensible. The risk is still there but lower than mixing with a bunch of strangers.

Mummypig2020 · 15/04/2020 06:44

What about uk holidays? Places like haven/centre parks?

Pixxie7 · 15/04/2020 06:52

Some of the airlines namely Tui, Ryanair have published dates when they hope to be operational again. Not sure how reliable this is but one has said end of May.

TowerRingInferno · 15/04/2020 06:52

Next year, but prices will rocket and few people will be able to afford them.

AvalancheKit · 15/04/2020 06:53

May 2021 for overseas

KatherineJaneway · 15/04/2020 06:55

2021 for overseas. September/ October UK.

CountFosco · 15/04/2020 07:19

I'm hoping things will be more settled by Easter next year so we can book something last minute. But suspect it may be even longer.

We've not got anything booked abroad this year (thankfully hadn't sorted anything before this all blew up) but have a couple of holidays booked in the UK. One in May half term and another in the summer. We've got the final cancellation dates in the calendar and will cancel if we're still in lockdown, May holiday is a big cultural destination, there is no point going if the museums, theatres etc are shut.

SallyWD · 15/04/2020 07:31

My elderly MIL lives abroad alone. She hasn't left home or seen anyone for 6 weeks. We really hope we can visit her end of July.

Hippywannabe · 15/04/2020 07:49

According to Tui, I am going to Lanzarote in just over 5 weeks. Might get my holiday clothes out and iron them so I am ready.

Xenia · 15/04/2020 08:02

Our holiday com, pany has not cancelled June holidays (ours) but I think hs for May. For them, a package co, it seems to depend on a number of things particularly air lines. They fly from Gatwick and Gatwick is currently closed down completely (Heathrow is open only at Terminal 5 at present too). As they won't be bussing people to mainland european destinations unless the air ports open then the holidays will not happen.

PersonaNonGarter · 15/04/2020 08:30

If you can’t go to restaurants and swimming pools, then UK holidays will be a very different thing.

Entertainment/Gathering will be the very last part of the economy to re-open.

Most of the facilities at somewhere like Centre Parcs will not be available for most (all?) of the summer.

RedToothBrush · 15/04/2020 08:42

At the earliest.

If you can afford it.

Chances are generation easyjet has had its final call.

Flights will be more expensive but you will also be looking at potential covid-19 related paper work (to prove that you have had it or are vaccinated against it) and the introduction of visas in addition to more expensive insurance. All these will add up in cost especially for a family.

It's also likely that certain places in the world will be off limits for longer than that too for Covid-19 related reasons.

The problem will be about what entry restrictions other countries have and what reentry restrictions the UK has.

RTP9 · 15/04/2020 09:03

These travel companies know very well that no one will be travelling in 5 /6 weeks but won’t allow people travelling after their made up dates to rebook without charge. Well Tui won’t anyway!

What about summer holidays via Eurotunnel or ferry rather than plane? Do people think Brittany Ferries etc will be running by the summer holidays?

schnubbins · 15/04/2020 09:19

Ursula Van der Leyen President of the EU Commission has asked people to wait with booking holidays this summer. As long as all countries do not have it under control there will be no travel.

MillieMoodle · 15/04/2020 09:20

We are meant to be going to Lanzarote with First Choice in mid-July. They are currently saying on their website that if you're due to depart from 1st July then your holiday will go ahead as planned. We need to pay the balance by the end of April, which I am reluctant to do in case the holiday is cancelled (which I suspect it will be) and then we struggle to get our money back.

We had the flights/dates change when TC went under as we had TC flights. Then the departure airport and flight times changed as TUI changed their schedule. I'm beginning to think someone is trying to tell us we shouldn't go!
