I think next year for abroad. End of August for UK. What do you think?

What about summer holidays via Eurotunnel or ferry rather than plane?

In the case of Eurotunnel and France how you arrive at the French border is going to be less relevant than the restrictions the French have in place on anyone entering the country.....

Their current restrictions are fairly draconian - roughly speaking essential workers only, French nationals/those who can show their primary residence is in France and similar..

I suspect/hope these will be relaxed over the coming months but the important thing is that no doubt any remaining restrictions will in theory at least apply at all points of entry into France, not just at the airports..

There is no country in Europe or otherwise that will want to import any new cases of the virus .I am living in Germany .As it stands we cannot even go to the Lakes which are 10 mins away from our house.The police are checking number plates and turning those with number plates not from the area away.All the borders are closed .A friend of my sons has for over a week been trying to get from Switzerland to Germany to resume work at a large car manufacturer .He cannot get through.The borders are shut.I would say that as long as the infection rates are so high none of us are going anywhere.

My holiday was booked last October and balance due soon. The EU lady did not take account of the fact thousands of people booked their holidays before Corona was heard of.

Probably a good idea to explain here that all German number plates have a local code in the letters at the beginning, and when you move house to a new area you re-register your vehicle and get a new number plate with code for your new area.

Really wanting to visit my parents in Ireland - I was meant to fly back just as all this was kicking off - wish I bloody went now and waited it out at home with them instead of London. Feeling crap not knowing when il see them again! Hoping flights to Ireland will be allowed by August - but who knows??

I’ve rebooked a Japan trip I was meant to be on for October (optimistic) but if we can go great - if not then we can just reschedule again! Haha - meant to fly to US over Xmas - again optimistic but can just reschedule if it’s cancelled. Don’t see the harm in wishful thinking

I really can't see international holidays happening this summer

We had a lovely European driving holiday planned and booked for mid July. The kids were so excited and are still hoping it happens. I think it is really unlikely. Maybe by the October half term?

I live in Europe but have a ferry booked to the uk for end of June.. not heard anything about that. I haven't seen my family since Christmas so I really hope I can go. My brother is getting married on the uk in September so that's my second "holiday" I have my fingers crossed for...

I've just booked a cheap Eurocamp holiday for the end of August. Deposit was only £99 which we can afford to lose, and we would be travelling by ferry rather than flying.

I'm tied as to the dates I can take off and wanted the option should things have calmed down by then.

Not holding out a great deal of hope but keeping fingers crossed Confused

There will be flights - that’s not the issue.

It’s whether there are visa requirements/border closures. Flights and ferries will be available.

It’s whether people need to GATHER. So - restaurants, campsites, close quarters beaches and Tourist shops and bars, maybe most hotels... it is these things that will be affected.

The thing is most of the holiday destinations on mainland Europe have been the ones most affected by the virus.Italy , Spain , France .I cannot see that the people of Spain will be greeting hoards of British folk off the planes ,no more than the Italians will be greeting those carloads of Germans and Dutch hurtling over The Brenner.All more potential virus carriers. We will all have to be tourists in our own countries this year.

The reason the tour companies aren't cancelling holidays booked for June onward is that they need an official restriction to be in place to make that decision. Every country is just rolling their restrictions on by a couple of weeks/months at a time.

There is nothing significant about your booking not being cancelled. It just means that there's no official travel restriction for those dates (yet).

@Asimovsfutureishere2020

I'd love that as I had a college reunion planned for then but realistically I think July is a bit optimistic 😥

Also think that many holiday companies will be going under in all this 😖

We are due to fly gatwick to rovaniemi in December. How likely does anyone think this is?

@Ohohohwhereyougoing

There is absolutely no one who can tell you. No one can even give you the slightest idea.
All you can get is opinions and these are likely to be way off the mark.

Personally I imagine it’ll be fine...but who knows.

We moved our May flights to end of August and just got an email today saying August flights now cancelled.

I’d be more bothered about the fact Covid-19 is being excluded from travel insurance policies. So if you need hospital treatmenf abroad you won’t be covered.

I'm longing for some clarification too

Flights booked to California for June. I doubt we'll be going. To be fair I don't want to until things are settled.

Virgin aren't giving much info though just now. If we do go I have a lot of other things to arrange such as airport parking, car hire, hotels etc. Plus we're visiting family so it depends how their daily life is running.

I hate not knowing.

Supposed to be going to Florida in August! I just hope that if the flight goes then the parks are open otherwise it's abit pointless! Really can't see it happening

Fern1965 - people who purchased annual travel insurance early in the year probably are still covered for Covid. Anyone from the UK travelling to Europe would also be covered by EHIC for Medical treatment in EU until the end of the year. Nevertheless it would be awful to get it on holiday.

I suspect if we go to Italy in late June (unlikely even given my optimistic views usually) then if we caught covid 19 there the symptoms probably would not show up until we get back to London (although the infection risk is more likely from us in London to them in Italy currently) as we are only going for a week. EHIC does indeed still apply as probably last year of post EU interim period and not sure about my travel insurance which is with my bank account or other people's on our booking which is an annual policy taken out last year. I doubt my bank's insurance will be much good - it would not even pay in 2012 for a taxi to take me from the hospital to the hotel (200 euros) when I had my ski accident although it did pay for the doctor. It was a bit much to expect me to walk back!
