Random- true. But then you get the opposite, with people arguing black is white to show how well the UK is doing. I'm on another thread where posters are convinced the peak has been and gone.

Sad truth is, unless there are 3 things: mass testing, fantastic pre-emptive healthcare and a stringent self-distancing, then every country is going to be X capita, the same.

Shinyshoes2 · 13/04/2020 00:17

Cheerfully coughing over people . You were there were you !!!
You have absolutely no idea
Everyone was sitting 3 tables away from eachother... there were 3 ! Yes I counted 3 tables space ... I sat up the back in the corner because generally I cant stand being near anyone in public as it is .. so this was heaven for me being sat so far from disgusting humans

Random18 · 13/04/2020 00:17

Shiny you are calling others a disgusting name yet you chose to ignore the advice at the time.

The advice was not given to be an inconvenience to you. It was given to save lives.

MintyMabel · 13/04/2020 00:19

That detail can be useful

Not particularly, again because of the variables.

starlightgazers · 13/04/2020 00:20

gleeful about high death rates & so quick to apportion blame

Yes, I'm delighted so many are dying and that I'm working all hours to care for the huge numbers of COVID-19 patients in the hospital I work in.

And if you were seeing colleagues die because they were not deemed important enough to be protected, you'd probably be angry too. HCP's are dying daily, and many of those deaths would have been preventable. The government were advised to procure PPE months, many of use are still waiting.

Iamthewombat · 13/04/2020 00:20

Shinyshoes proves that blaming the government for the spread of this disease is naive. We have people like her doing the job very effectively.

mochojoes · 13/04/2020 00:21

@ElspethFlashman I posted upthread about the theory that the virus impacts more on BAME communities, the % are certainly lower in Ireland vs UK. I would guess the UK also has a lot more people over 65. Personally I think it's really difficult to compare countries.

This was the Scottish government advice on 12th March. It has been in line with PHE advice.

Clearly a new cough even with the absence of other symptoms meant self isolation

www.gov.scot/news/people-with-symptoms-told-to-stay-at-home/

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 13/04/2020 00:25

No-one is gleeful about this. I know someone who has died and someone who was in ICU.
Our government had the opportunity to act quickly and decisively. It didn't.
Again, for anyone doubting how ineffective our policies have been, I suggest looking at NZ.
Being in denial about how awful our response has been, leaves an opening for it to happen again. The only way lessons can be learned is if people face the facts.
We are where we are and it's both a disaster and a tragedy. But to refuse to learn from it and acknowledge the failings would be a travesty.

TheCanterburyWhales · 13/04/2020 00:25

That's not what you said in your earlier post Shiny.

Shinyshoes2 · 13/04/2020 00:26

Random18 I wasnt inconvenienced
What makes you think I single handedly spread this
Funny how I live with 4 other people and they show no signs one of whom.is a keyworker and is now working from home indefinitely yet I've effectively fucked half the population 🤷‍♀️

Random18 · 13/04/2020 00:27

If we are going to be compared other countries then I think Germany is more comparable than NZ!

Chienloup · 13/04/2020 00:27

They have already started the drip drip drip effect of the blame game:
HCP's misusing PPE.
Us not taking lockdown seriously enough.

Pushing responsibility downwards is a classic political move which serves to exonerate our esteemed leaders.
I expect we'll hear more of this rhetoric in the weeks to come. It's contemptible.

Random18 · 13/04/2020 00:29

Shiny get a grip.

You did wrong and most likely infected a handful of people.

You were irresponsible with the actions you took. There is no denying that.

You can try and turn this on others being unfair to you, but it doesn't work like that.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 13/04/2020 00:30

Germany is landlocked. We're not. Germany has a different population density. Germany isn't an island. Germany has a completely different healthcare model. Why would you think it comparable?

Pomegranatemolasses · 13/04/2020 00:30

Why not look at your buffoon prime minister and his lackies, with their outlier herd immunity policy.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 13/04/2020 00:33

Sorry I was distracted. Germany isn't landlocked but is part of mainland Europe unlike the UK.

Iamthewombat · 13/04/2020 00:35

Let’s set out the facts, shall we:

  • you developed a cough on 19 March and ‘had a feeling’ it might have been covid 19. You didn’t KNOW that it was covid 19, how could anybody know unless tested immediately, but you suspected that it was.
  • for at least a week previously, descriptions of the symptoms of the virus had been widely reported. As had the actions we were expected to take when detecting any type of virus symptom: self-isolate.
  • you decided to go to Wetherspoons the next day, 20 March. You say that you ‘hate disgusting human beings’ so presumably you sat on your own in Wetherspoons. With your cough. Three tables away from everyone else, though, so that’s OK. You must have visited the bar at least once, and probably the ladies’. Somebody will have collected your glass. Can you understand that even if you did sit three tables away from the nearest disgusting human beings, you had many opportunities to infect other people? You say that other people were looking at you askance. I wonder why?
  • you decided to go to Tesco, coughing your way around the shop. A woman pulls a small child away from you. You are offended by this.
  • despite your own casual attitude to infecting other people, you engage in an altercation with a woman in a shop who has picked up (in your opinion) too many punnets of strawberries. However, you judged that it was ok for you, with your cough that has already attracted negative attention in Wetherspoons and Tesco, to touch food and packaging. Presumably you were coughing away in this shop too.
  • what is the relevance of you ‘still being in your nightwear’? Does your opinion that you have been quite ill absolve you from responsibility for infecting other people?
Random18 · 13/04/2020 00:37

Britain may be an Island but its only a few miles from France.

How far is New Zealands nearest neighbour?

Its a major international transport hub.

Watching a BBC news piece tonight and they stumbled across some migrants who had just crossed the channel on a dinghy. Would you be able to get to New Zealand on a dinghy?

Easilyanxious · 13/04/2020 00:37

Can't compare to New Zealand totally either less people spread over in a larger Country. Only after the event will we know what was wrong or right we aren't out of this yet , no one is .
Probably look back and find some did certain things right others did different also each country is different we could hardly if had a China style lockdown here . Some people can't even understand our simple guidelines and are trying to justify why it's ok for them to just bend them .We don't know what will happen to other countries tin say 3 months if there are 2nd waves etc .

Shinyshoes2 · 13/04/2020 00:37

I'm no longer partaking in the thread. I said it before and I've always said it .
Not 2 months ago people were preaching
#BeKind
I laughed and rolled my eyes because people are not kind .the majority are arseholes and extremely selfish
Enjoy ..
Talk about me behind my back I dont give a shit .
Stay safe

Iamthewombat · 13/04/2020 00:37

Incidentally, isn’t it curious that some posters who have clearly lost an argument and can’t deal with it always resort to ‘you must be thick’ or ‘you have learning difficulties’ ?

starlightgazers · 13/04/2020 00:38

In Jan they were saying no evidence of human to human transfer

Yes, because at that time there WAS no evidence of that.
