Checking in.

MorrisZapp · 10/04/2020 12:23

Thanks for the new thread!

Lockheart · 10/04/2020 12:24

Thanks!

On a side note, I've always said the FT is among the most neutral / factual papers in the UK - I feel like their free-to-read analyses of the figures confirms it Grin

By GlassofProsecco on the last thread:

Just as an aside, regarding testing - I'm an NHS worker & the only way we can be tested is if we are in a critical team & within the 1st 72hrs of symptoms.
*
That might explain a lot about the negative tests after this period.*

I might be late if the uptake but this must be why they quickly switched to focussing on the antibody tests?

Thank you for all you and your colleagues do 🙏

BirdandSparrow · 10/04/2020 12:39

placemarking.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/04/2020 12:39

Thank you so much Barracker.

Autocorrect has had you in its memory for a while now! Grin

I have a tiny obsession with this link helpfully included in past threads; it will be interesting to see how it compares over this weekend.

Yay thread 4!!!!

Soontobe60 · 10/04/2020 12:48

Thanks, it's good to see the daily updates.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/04/2020 12:51

Yes that would follow re the antibody tests. Might also explain why China swapped to clinical diagnosis for a while.

Lelivre · 10/04/2020 12:52

Thank you.

Barracker · 10/04/2020 12:52

I'll try to remember to include that link in the next OP NeurotrashWarrior

B1rdbra1n · 10/04/2020 13:02

Great resources thank you 🙏

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/04/2020 13:06

Thanks, Barracker - it's just so good to have somewhere to come for sensible discussion about this - even if the maths is often beyond me!!

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2020 13:06

Comparison of Sweden (no lockdown) with its neighbour Norway (in lockdown)

Clear difference in numbers & curves, but Swedish total even as a population % is still small compared to UK, France etc
WIll deaths level off at an "acceptable" level - or grow out of control ?

Retruning to that German study of their first area to be hit during carnival:

The v low death rate in that Heinsberg area study by Prof Streeck probably can NOT be fully replicated across a whole country

However, could be used as a guinea pig for what Germany can do in the approach to the summer months,
when cases are expected to be v low anyway

In Heinsberg, the virus was discovered very early, so appropriate countermeasures were initiated very early too

All contacts of the 65 corona cases identified so far were placed in 14-day quarantine, along with the original 65.
There were few elderly people in this group.

Schools, shops, gyms etc were closed at the beginning of March
Handwashing & hygiene was emphasised

As a result, COVID has been successfully kept away from the higher risk inhabitants.
i.e. those who produce most of the deaths

NewAccountForCorona · 10/04/2020 13:13

I didn't know that China had swapped to clinical diagnosis. Presumably that's the distinctive chest x-rays I keep seeing mentioned.

FATEdestiny · 10/04/2020 13:18
