@educatingArti NHS Harrogate is being set up to solely deal with patients needing ventilation. Outcomes will be death (for most) or transfer to a normal hospital/care home for further recovery/rehab once extubated. Patients will be discharged from NHS Nightingale within 24 hours of coming off a ventilator, they won't be doing any rehab or general medical work

CendrillonSings I'm not taking the bait. I can read blogs and see who is appointed to advisory roles.

tshirt351 · 14/04/2020 12:07

I know these are very scary times so if anyone needs any extra information over how to get support (whether that's financial/mental health/grief etc) during this crisis, mypickle.org/coronahub/ is a really useful website! It has lots of good links all in one place. Hope this helps someone.

CendrillonSings · 14/04/2020 12:12

It is clear their plan is still for most people to get it. Which means elderly and ill people dying. That is not the plan in countries like Germany. We are being told it is inevitable that lots of elderly and ill people die. As if having the worst mortality rate in Europe is not bad enough. We are going to accept killing more people.

“Not the plan in Germany”?! Someone should really tell Angela Merkel, the, er, Chancellor of Germany, who said this a month ago:

www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-angela-merkel-expects-two-thirds-of-germans-will-get/

BERLIN — German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she expects that two-thirds of Germans — some 58 million people — will be infected with the new coronavirus, but urged people to "not overload" the country's health system.

"We must assume that 60 to 70 percent of the population will become infected," the chancellor said, noting that the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions were particularly at risk.

But it was crucial, she said, that "we do not overload our health care system," and that "it's all about buying time," for instance for hospitals.

Some people have an irrational UK Derangement Syndrome - the idea that we can do no right and other countries can do no wrong, even with direct evidence to the contrary.

I'm not taking the bait. I can read blogs and see who is appointed to advisory roles.

So you’re not actually able to counter my arguments, and you think that blogs and advisory appointments outweigh the actual public health policy of lockdown and the clear decision to sacrifice the economy to save lives?

That’s completely irrational in the face of observable facts. There’s no way a government of far-right eugenicists would make those decisions in a million years.

Legoandloldolls · 14/04/2020 12:57

I think we have to wait out on the long term science of this virus. I'm pretty sure that the UK isn't going to get the best handle on the science as we arent doing enough testing. So we cant say who's had and and been reinforced etc as we arent testing outside of hospital so all of data is heavily skewed to the critically ill population.

I am wondering why it's not growing in numbers in India? Or Africa? Very hard to get a worldwide feel of the story.

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/04/2020 12:59

Yuck. There is a poster likening people dying of Covid to whack-a-mole.

I guess vile cunt's gotta be a vile cunt.

Sorry.

MurrayTheMonk · 14/04/2020 13:16

I was interviewed on five live this morning by Nicky campbell re the care home situation! I sounded a right knob! I nearly cried. But very sweetly someone called in to the station afterwards to get our homes address as they wanted to send us their spare PPE and some tests for the staff! Which made me sob again!!

RedToothBrush · 14/04/2020 13:17

I can. I just choose not to, because you have a habit of dismissing what I say anyway and I can't be arsed wasting my time.

Hth.

SistemaAddict · 14/04/2020 13:18

Awww @MurrayTheMonk Thanks

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/04/2020 13:21

Oh Murray that's fantastic!

Saucery · 14/04/2020 13:33

Brilliant news, Murray! Your service users are lucky to have you and so is everyone in supported housing/care homes with staff like you Flowers

Reastie · 14/04/2020 13:34

Murray that’s lovely. I was thinking of you earlier.

woodencoffeetable · 14/04/2020 13:48

I find the change in reporting from 'died from' to 'died with' the last couple of days disturbing.

where does that come from?

alloutoffucks · 14/04/2020 13:51

It is trying to gaslight us into thinking these people were on the brink of death anyway. Anyone on an end of life pathway will not be admitted to hospital so is not included in the figures.

CharlieTangoBanana · 14/04/2020 13:52

@woodencoffeetable of course he got 1-1 care that is the protocol in ICU always.
I spend a lot of my life pinging in and out of hospital and have been in ICU and HDU a number of times, when you have a serious respiratory condition you are observed closely because you can deteriorate rapidly.

BJ will have been looked after very carefully but I think it's disingenuous to suggest that medical professionals wouldn't look after every patient to the best of their ability.

alloutoffucks · 14/04/2020 13:56

@MurrayTheMonk I saw you! Thank you so much for highlighting the issues.

Reastie · 14/04/2020 14:06

I’m worried about how things are being downplayed imo in the press compared to when stats were this bad in other countries and it was a huge deal. Can the press be asked to keep a lid on things a bit by the govt to prevent supposed scaremongering?

alloutoffucks · 14/04/2020 14:07

@CendrillonSings We really just accept that thousands more people will die? That really is the plan?
We are already heading to have more people die in the UK than any other European country. You really think the only thing we can do is all go back to work, and thousands more die?
That really is the best we can do?
And we have to ignore why the UK has much more deaths than other European countries?

alloutoffucks · 14/04/2020 14:08

@Reastie It was clear at the beginning of this in the UK there was something in place to muzzle the press. Then it was significantly eased off. Yes reporting restrictions are probably still in place.

Humphriescushion · 14/04/2020 14:12

Germanys death rate is very low, so yes they are catching the virus but they are managing it somehow much better.

Reastie · 14/04/2020 14:22

@alloutoffucks thank you. I was starting to think I was going mad and they [the press] weren’t getting it
