I think teachers get enough of a bashing on here without us all deciding not to turn up to work, meaning our students don't get educated, parents have to sort alternative childcare etc etc...

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 22:38

Sorry I meant to say you can tell your employer what you like if you have ambition and a spine

Purpleheadgirl · 12/04/2020 22:58

Oh absolutely Iwantkoalas I shall do that tomorrow to my employer and my team......I will tell them I have a spine so won't be on the ward, with goggles, masks gloves and aprons on to care for the patients....to ensure they are fed, cared for, medicated, their hopeful discharges planned safely or in case of some patients watch them die...alone. or the supermarket staff that keep us fed, the teachers that are having to go into schools to look after other keyworkers children, the transport operators, the hgv drivers who transport all the food and other items we need, the postmen, the bin men and the many many more people who clearly have a much stronger spine than you.....we shall all stop. More people will die and the country be in dire straits but hey, we will have all told our employers what we think, have a spine and be full of ambition. I for one don't want to live in that world!

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:06

Purple, if you want to go in and do that thats your choice

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2020 23:07

Sorry I meant to say you can tell your employer what you like if you have ambition and a spine

If I have the ambition to be sacked, I can say exactly what I want!

I'm not sure you live in the real world if you think it's that easy!

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:13

No wonder corporations get away with what they do

HeIenaDove · 12/04/2020 23:21

@RedToothBrush Just noticed your posts about the ferries and medicines Very very worrying.

Thanks Thanks to the pps who have lost loved ones and to those who are stressed and at risk due to this.

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2020 23:23

It's a well known fact that the balance of power in an employer / employee relationship is tipped towards the employer. Everyone knows it: the employer, the employee and, when it goes wrong, the Court. To suggest otherwise shows naivety at best.

DressingGownofDoom · 12/04/2020 23:26

Oh hello. I thought these threads had sunk amongst the madness. So hard to believe the difference between the situation when we were all considered a bit mental on thread 1 and now. And yet there's still the 'just a flu' people about Hmm

How is everyone doing with lockdown. I am starting to become weary of it to be honest.

EmeraldShamrock · 12/04/2020 23:28

Sorry I meant to say you can tell your employer what you like if you have ambition and a spine I'm sorry that is a ridiculous statement.

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:32

I know this isnt the place for such ideas

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:34

I'm sorry If its just me but I'm getting really irritated with general society more than usual. What the hell is wrong with them

EmeraldShamrock · 12/04/2020 23:38

I'm sorry If its just me but I'm getting really irritated with general society more than usual Use your spine and ambition to sort the feckers out. 🤣

BilboBercow · 12/04/2020 23:40

Just checking in tonight as I can't sleep. Coronavirus has taken the life of an elderly lady close to my family. The virus is raging through the local carehome and several residents have died, but it's not even being reported in the local press. Not yet anyway.

Really brings it home to you.

TheCanterburyWhales · 12/04/2020 23:43

Daffodil Bilbo.
I think the carehome deaths alone will need the mother of all enquiries when this is over. And not because of the wonderful staff. But because they have been abandoned to their fate.

Koalas- what job do you do? Are you in a job where you can just go in and demand different conditions?

Horehound · 12/04/2020 23:47

I don't understand this. This person is saying smoking helps to avoid covid19?!

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:48

A lot of people are and also can demand time off in a pandemic

EmeraldShamrock · 12/04/2020 23:50

BilboBercow Flowers
It really does over 10,000 lives lost.
I'm in Dublin we've been hit with the most cases, the age range is very scary.

Because nicotine suppresses the immune system horehound.

IwantKoalas · 12/04/2020 23:57

40 or so child deaths in Ireland

WhoWants2Know · 13/04/2020 00:15

Without wishing to be morbid, I'm assuming that 10,000 deaths from COVID (in addition to all the other deaths that would usually be happening anyway) is quite a strain on burial and cremation services. How are they managing the situation?

middleager · 13/04/2020 00:33

A 13-year-old boy in Birmingham has been killed after crossing a road with his parents (presumably on their daily walk).

This is a notoriously fast stretch of road anyway (a toddler was knocked down on the crossing a few years ago), but now, during lockdown, cars are racing up and down there.

It is heartbreaking.

Ladyellow · 13/04/2020 00:41

@IwantKoalas - I think it’s 40 child cases not deaths? We’ve “only” had a few in England and Spain had none under 10 so 40 would be catastrophic.

IwantKoalas · 13/04/2020 01:09

Oh right. I thought that chart looked shocking

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2020 08:06

I keep checking the local newspapers to see if it's got into the care homes where my grandmother is. I can't help but feel it's only a matter of time. She lives in an area with one of the highest number of elderly in care homes in the country. She's actually in a private flat in a sheltered building rather than a care home but since she needs care daily I don't think it means she's much less at risk. There still a lot of people living in close proximity with shared corridors. She's been in and out of hospital for the last few years too. So far I've seen nothing to suggest a problem in the area but I'm not sure I find the complete lack of reporting reassuring or not.
