And to add to the fiasco a popular park in Watford - Casiobury had to close and shut its carpark as thousands of people rocked up there for a day out today! www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/18358665.thousands-risk-lives-others-flocking-cassiobury-park/

How on earth is @Wehttam scaremongering? They’re right. People aren’t listening to what they’re being told. There’s too many people with their heads up their arse. If it makes one person rethink what they are doing then surely it’s a good thing.

RancidOldHag · 04/04/2020 18:42

BBC: "The hospital said the decision was taken as a "result of a technical issue with our hospital's oxygen equipment"."

MasterBruceBalloon · 04/04/2020 18:43

@MirrorGold Thank you. Watford has had to do this before and will do so again. We're not that far from London and have a lot of commuters. It's a big place and we need another hospital/make Watford General bigger. The other local hospitals are smaller and used for different things. Mount Vernon is minor injuries and Welwyn Garden City is as well I believe.

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 18:43

This really does show as well what hospital closures have done as well

This is actually I think more concerning for those NON Covid emergencies as it happens because now an entire area has no A&E

myrtleWilson · 04/04/2020 18:50

Its not what whettam is saying more the way in which he does it. He has form for a tone that (inadvertently or not) creates a sense of breathless, drama ridden anxiety. He's been asked to tone it down on previous posts and to his credit he did.

He could have said on this thread "this is concerning if it suggests peak capacity in London is being reached" as opposed to "the dam is about to burst is what this means. EVERYBODY STAY AT HOME!!!!' - To my mind both are making the same point but the tone and conveyance is very different.

And still many bloody southerners are still not heeding advice.

DarnedSocks · 04/04/2020 19:02

And still many bloody southerners are stil not heeding advice
Yep and northerners too.

Because you know idiots are everywhere. Many more southerners and northerners are being sensible.

That's my concern too @Quartz2208 I do hope non Covid emergencies will still get help.

Fluteytooting · 04/04/2020 19:06

The problem at Watford is to do with a technical issue with the oxygen, bit because it’s run out according to local press.

Fluteytooting · 04/04/2020 19:07

Argh bit=not!

Fluteytooting · 04/04/2020 19:08

And I’ve been so slow typing that someone else has already said it! I’ll move on Grin

Ipadipod · 04/04/2020 19:12

I think the general public would be surprised at how often , even in normal circumstances, hospitals have critical incidents. It really doesn’t take much to overload a hospital.

Clutterbugsmum · 04/04/2020 19:12

That's what happens when you close/downgrade 3 hospitals into one.

tenlittlecygnets · 04/04/2020 19:36

@justincase With children as young as 5 years old dying of Covid19, I'd be curious to know what you think would be a catastrophe...

ONE child with existing medical conditions. Stop scaremongering!

JustVisiting9 · 04/04/2020 19:47

I used to live in Hertfordshire, and all the time I lived there they were talking about building a new hospital. I think this was finally approved as one of Boris' 40 new hospitals.

Other A&Es in the area were closed down. There were always reports of problems at Watford A&E - no surprise given the huge population it covers.

I am concerned, but I suspect the problem is due to the lack of investment in healthcare in this part of England.

Genderwitched · 04/04/2020 20:15

I surrender 🏳️, please do feel free to report all future posts by me that you understand to be scaremongering.

Oh good!!, does that mean you're going to stop, and for your information i don't need your permission.

You really do not realise what harm you are doing.

West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust has explained that Watford General is not running low on oxygen supplies. That aspect was misreported. The problem is with the equipment supplying the oxygen to the wards.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/04/2020 21:20

Is there such a thing as “medical grade” oxygen? Surely oxygen is oxygen?

Yes, medical oxygen is classed as a medicine. Industrial oxygen is permitted a higher level of impurities.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 21:30

Blossom they’re horrors aren’t they.

GivenchyD · 04/04/2020 21:40

'Shush, don't go bringing common sense into it lol'

I'm surprised Wehttam hasn't blamed Boris, he's maybe turned off all the oxygen because he wants people to die apparently.

I'm not laughing at the crisis or the fact people are scared and panicking, just really the 'we're all going to DIE!!!!!' comments are horrible. We are all anxious about ourselves and our families please think before you try to terrify people more.

frumpety · 04/04/2020 21:57

They have to apply a critical incident to this scenario if it means that they cannot take patients safely. It means whilst they sort the issue , patients will be diverted to other hospitals. It happens more often than the most people realise, even when there isn't a pandemic. If all the hospitals in the region had the same crisis simultaneously then we would be in catastrophic territory. But I don't think we are ?

Bollocks. People on here have posted that they heard from close relatives and somebody who’s grandson might be in hospital that all the oxygen had run out.

FACT.

(Because everyone knows if you write fact in capitals after making a statement it means it’s definitely true and not made up or misinterpreted at all)
