Public are being asked to not go there. Does anyone know what happened??

Fucksake stop with the catastrophising. It isn't unknown for hospitals to close.

oh great, and here we were worried that hospitals running out of respirators and not accepting any more urgent patients was a bit of a worry.

With children as young as 5 years old dying of Covid19, I'd be curious to know what you think would be a catastrophe...

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 15:53

Really sorry to hear they are running out of oxygen. That is scary.

AmelieTaylor · 04/04/2020 15:53

Area?? Arse.

Bloody phone

ShellsAndSunrises · 04/04/2020 15:53

*The dam is about to burst is what this means.

EVERYONE STAY AT HOME!!!!!!!!*

How is this intended to be helpful?

There aren't many people who aren't aware of the situation. There are a decent amount who don't care and aren't complying, but they're not likely to listen to you either.

Plus, 95% of the people reading this right now are going to be at home.

So who is it supposed to help?

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 15:54

how do you 'make' oxygen?

YgritteSnow · 04/04/2020 15:54

Wehtam stop bloody scare mongering. Seen you do it a few times now. I wish posters like you could be blocked I really do.

Nacreous · 04/04/2020 15:55

There is clearly an increasing number of cases across the country, but the spread of cases isn't currently uniform. In London the hospitals are spreading patients around and moving them to manage capacity better. In the rest of the country that hasn't been happening for as long yet, but it is likely to happen more as the peak spreads out from London. Watford is a commuter hub so was always likely to experience this earlier than elsewhere.

Most hospitals don't normally have huge numbers of patients on high flow oxygen, but some of the non invasive ventilation methods use huge quantities of oxygen - up to 10x that of a ventilator. That can place pressure on a hospitals oxygen supply fairly quickly and might mean patients need transferring elsewhere even if the remainder of the hospital isn't under a huge amount of strain. If they can't add more users to their oxygen system, they won't want more unwell people turning up until people have been transferred elsewhere.

willowpatterns · 04/04/2020 15:55

From what official source did you glean that information @Skybluepink123 ?

AmelieTaylor · 04/04/2020 15:56

This needs loud hailing over all the idiots out today.

They might be the first, they’ll be far from the last 😢

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 15:56

Shells ok fine if that’s not helpful, I’ll correct it to,

EVERYONE GO OUT AND ABOUT SPREADING THE VIRUS, GIFT YOUR LOVED ONES PNEUMONIA!!!!

Better?

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 15:57

@YgritteSnow i'm pretty sure @Wehttam is a poster who said we would be on lockdown and was told off foe 'scaremongering' when actually, she was right!!

insancerre · 04/04/2020 15:58

Won’t there be lots of oxygen in all those grounded planes?

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 15:58

Thank you Lavender a fair few of us, and it is still going on.

(By the way, I love my Lavender Quartz pieces, so calming.)

YgritteSnow · 04/04/2020 15:58

So what @LavenderQuartz? I certainly didn't tell her off for that. I thought it would happen too. Last night I saw them predicting the complete breakdown of society. Is that helpful right now do you think?

Skybluepink123 · 04/04/2020 15:58

Willow it’s on bbc news website.

ChristmasCarcass · 04/04/2020 15:59

AND DON’T FORGET TO KEEP BREATHING EVERYBODY, THAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT TOO BECAUSE IF YOU STOP BREATHING YOU MIGHT DIE!!!1!!!1!1!1!!

This is the Coronavirus forum, I think most people on here are aware of the Stay at Home advice.

ShellsAndSunrises · 04/04/2020 16:00

Wehttam No, that's just petulant.

Genuinely, do you think that anyone who has decided to go out because the weather is nice is going to listen to someone shouting on a MN thread?
They know what they're doing. They know the guidelines. They don't care. They think it won't happen to them. No Mumsnet thread or hospital announcement is going to change that, just like the daily death announcements haven't. Sadly, it'll probably take someone they know getting pretty seriously ill or dying to make a difference, if they've got to this point with their head still resolutely up their own arse.

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 16:01

Yes @Wehttam was repeatedly told she was scare mongering when she said we would be entering lock down.

SockQueen · 04/04/2020 16:01

@LavenderQuartz It's distilled from liquid air at incredibly low temperatures. Stored in liquid form in vast cylinders outside hospitals (the smaller cylinders you see on beds etc are generally only for short term/transit use and are not liquefied). Then evaporated and delivered under pressure to every oxygen outlet in the hospital. But evaporating it cools the system and if the temperature drops too much, it won't evaporate any more, so there is a maximum flow rate that can be delivered through the system. This means that even if the big cylinder(s) are full, the system may not be able to deliver the volumes needed if lots of patients are on high flow oxygen.

Not got a clue if this is what's happening at Watford but it's been a significant concern for many hospitals.

LochJessMonster · 04/04/2020 16:02

Hospitals declare critical incidents all the time. Just means they are busy and can’t accept anymore patients.

YgritteSnow · 04/04/2020 16:02

There's a big difference between steadfastly standing your ground and issuing calm opinions on what you think might happen, and shrieking warnings in BIG BOLDED CAPITALS while joyously predicting the complete breakdown of society.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 16:03

Ygrittesnow it’s better to be prepared and able to deal with whatever comes our way rather than sitting by doing nothing. A few people on here have been grateful for my ‘catastrophising’ because it lead to them taking action far sooner than they would have had they waited for the authorities to direct them, potentially keeping themselves and their loved ones safe.

So I’ll keep shouting my head off until I’m blue in the face if it helps people. Thank you for following me though 💐

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 16:04

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 16:06

There is no joy in my predictions either Ygritte let me be very clear on that. Sorry OP for sidetracking from your thread.
