In Italy, the total number of patients in intensive care units finally falls (-1.8%).

DarnedSocks · 04/04/2020 17:44

Oh that poor cat. Do any of the neighbours have contact details for the owners? Would it count as an essential journey if one of them collected it? I know zoos, animal shelters, and sanctuaries are doing their best to continue looking after the animals.

Not a fan of Boris but I wish both him and Carrie a good recovery.

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 17:52

@TheStarryNight Are you anywhere near West Midlands Stray Cat Rescue are brilliant. Im in Essex but i follow them on fb and twitter?

They were the ones who looked after a cat called Maximus You might have seen press articles on him.

Somelady · 04/04/2020 17:54

Thats wrong helenadove the cat would be better off in the woods

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 18:03

Oh lordy, I know I shouldn't laugh, but there's s thread where a poster is starting a petition because she's not going to accept the lockdown continuing. Someone else has suggested she write directly to the virus rather than starting a petition. Grin

woodencoffeetable · 04/04/2020 18:04

the cynic in me wonders if hospitals struggle so much because they can't offload as much care to visiting relatives anymore?

the chronic under staffing must really show now.

TheStarryNight · 04/04/2020 18:04

DarnedSocks our neighbour does and she’s trying but no response yet. We’d take him to vet to be scanned but vet not open.

Thanks Helena. Good bit further north than that.

I’ll try local SSPCA officer too tomorrow, see if she can scan him. Not sure if her work counts as essential or not. She’s really lovely, lives a couple of villages over. She came to help with an injured hedgehog a while back. Fingers crossed.

Smile That's so lovely you can look after him TheStarryNight

I do wish Carrie a good recovery but the reporting of this and her Tweet smacks of further propaganda. "I haven't needed to be tested" Is that meant to stop the rest of us asking for a test.

ifonly4 · 04/04/2020 18:20

Do you have any food you can feed the cat for now? Cats Protection might be able to help.

TheStarryNight my cats and I thank you for your kindness at taking in the 😺

If you don't have any food you could try the local FB page.

I imagine there's a number of abandoned animals right now.

I miss stroking my cats, but as I'm on day four of the fever, I daren't.

Somelady · 04/04/2020 18:28

Yes you are a good person to look after the cat. I would have been scared of it being contaminated

middleager · 04/04/2020 18:29

Glad to hear Carrie's on the mend.
But does this mean Boris must stay home for another 7? 14? days? I know he's had it, but as we don't know that immunity exists, what would the advice be?

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 18:39

Well done for taking the cat in.Star

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 18:39

I love cats

TheStarryNight · 04/04/2020 19:06

Thanks for cat food tips ifonly4 and middleager. DH was going to the shop this afternoon anyway for the weekly shop, so he got some cat food then.

I’ve may have an autoimmune condition- tests on hold just now as I needed to travel a far way to get them- so I was a bit worried about Lyme Disease from the ticks as that would just be the last straw.

So phoned pet shop in town near supermarket and paid for tick treatment and cat shampoo over the phone and guy had it ready in a bag for DH to pick up.

Dining room has patio doors to garden so we will leave some catfood just inside for him and then put tick treatment on him while he’s eating. But leave doors between living room and dining room shut.

Can’t give him a bath for two days after tick treatment so he can stay in dining room for a couple of days. Have put in an old cushion and fluffy bathmat/rug for him as a bed.

Then in a couple of days I will don a boiler suit and rubber gloves to help DH give him a bath in the utility room sink, there’s a door to the garden there too. That should be interesting.

I will call the SSPCA lady tomorrow though, in case owners are able to get him. But we at least have a plan of action if that doesn’t work out. And she’ll be able to give us advice on what to do next if owners are really MIA.

Hoping they didn’t leave him behind, just that he’s made his way back to old home and forgotten how to get back to new one. Fingers crossed.

I love cats too Helena.

I love cats as well and have 3 of them. This story has made me very sad. Well done for helping this cat, OP, and I hope there's a happy ending for him.

Helenj1977 · 04/04/2020 19:15

Aw, well done for taking that poor cat in. That's so sad that they just left it.

We lost our cat in February. We're all really missing him now. We have a puppy but you don't get the same love from a dog iyswim.

Some cats don't mind being bathed. Make sure you have everything to hand!

Really sad about that poor 5yo who lost their life. My youngest is 16mo and it terrifies me that she might get this.

Somelady · 04/04/2020 19:20

It might claw you really bad maybe protect your forearms

Somelady · 04/04/2020 19:20

Or all the arms

Derbygerbil · 04/04/2020 19:23

Yesterday 32000 new cases and 1321 deaths, today c1700 new cases and 51 deaths. Do they add to their daily totals throughout the day?

Yes, they are reported throughout the day... aren’t complete til early hours and clock starts again.

TheStarryNight · 04/04/2020 19:32

We’ll tick is now off and tick treatment is on. He’s polished off two pouches of catfood and is having a snooze. Fingers crossed Mittens and Helen.

The boiler suit is really think denim so hopefully that’ll help somelady.
