I don't agree with the legal challenge by the parents but I'd just like to point out that the children probably have not been offered a place at the school. My son has an ehcp and goes to special school and we were heavily recommended not to send our children in the week leading up to the closure and then were told that key workers could send them in but very much as a last resort. Despite what the government said we definitely weren't given the impression our child would be able to attend. A friend had the same experience at a mainstream were told that they recommended they didn't send the child in despite having an ehcp.

Im now catching up with the prog after Channel 4 news

I found the programme lacking in anything new or worthwhile. What happens next... basically no one knows.

istherelifeafter40 · 03/04/2020 21:33

I am a lurker and very rarely post (recently had an outburst though); but read every single of these threads. It's hard to find good information; I am also surprised there are not any accounts coming out of London hospitals. I missed the post everyone discussed one thread up (I guess it was something along those lines?).

also thinking of you ofwarren and hope your DS is well

Helenj1977 · 03/04/2020 21:50

Hi all, thank you for the new thread.

Just having a twitter argument with someone questioning my getting prepared in early Feb. I've shut him up with the WHO link from then when it has spread to 25 countries.

We could easily have started getting ready for ppe etc then.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 03/04/2020 21:56

I've seen ofwarren and gpwife on the 'lungs burning' thread 5 recently. Not stalking, just got a memory for stuff like that.

I'm around but not posting much, been following since the beginning.

And glad I did as a stocked up very early on and now can't get deliveries even though shielding.

Grasspigeons · 03/04/2020 22:00

Bessica1970 - i have a child with an ehcp and his special school is closed unless both parents are a key worker. I work in another school and whilst some of the children with an ehcp were offered a place not all were as the aim is they should be at home if it is safe to do so. Yhe autistic child who did come wasnt able to cope with the hugely different environment provided by a rota by unfamiliar people so only came 1 day.
I havent read the appeal so i dont know if i agree with it - but its not quite right to say if they have autism and an ehcp they can just go to school.

This weekend will see a massive upturn in people out and about. This week has become busier and busier in my area. I think a lot of people got paid this week and have been out shopping for a lot of inessential items. We are seeing massive queues at work with whole families waiting to come in. People are browsing more in store and most people are spending big amounts on garden/decorating/toys. I walk to work everyday it's 3 miles for me and last week and the beginning of the week were very quiet on the roads with hardly anyone about. The last 2 days it's almost like normal. Traffic everywhere, groups of people and families out and about. So many people will not follow the social distancing when out and about. I am getting very scared of how much more tragic this will end up being because people will not listen and stay home. I'm disgusted at the amount of people on other threads who really feel they shouldn't have to follow the governments instructions because it interferes with what they want to do. The nicer weather will mean parks, beaches and open areas will be crowded again just like the weekend before our lockdown. I feel Sunday/Monday will see our country on much stricter lockdown.

Bessica1970 · 03/04/2020 22:34

If the child has an ehcp they are entitled to be schooled at the minute. The school might encourage parents not to take up the place, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t. I’m a teacher and have a child with autism, so I’m not just guessing - I think parents are being ‘encouraged’ (probably rightly) to decline the option - but I also know parents who have insisted and have had to be accommodated.

Grasspigeons · 03/04/2020 22:40

Like many rights its entirely pointless if the building your child goes to is closed and their 1:1 is shielding and the child cant cope with those changes.

PJMasksGhekko · 03/04/2020 22:42

Do we think there will be a stricter lockdown? Like a curfew etc?

pocketem · 03/04/2020 22:49

Not likely when the govt are still secretly pursuing their herd immunity policy

Randomschoolworker19 · 03/04/2020 23:24

@Bessica1970

It's not true that an EHCP guarantees a place. We denied a child with an EHCP plan because when we risk assessed, it was deemed to be too unsafe to allow them into school.

They often need team teaching (being physically restrained) because they self harm and and have no concept of physical boundaries. It was decided that social distancing in the school would be impossible if they attended and would put other children and staff at risk.

PJMasksGhekko · 03/04/2020 23:31

That's scary pocket Sad

TheMidnightSpecial · 04/04/2020 00:50

I'm freaked out at the 'concluded cases' for the UK. Concluded as in the cases who have had a resolution, either recovered or died.

3,740 cases which have had an outcome. ie discharged or died. Does NOT include those still in hospital or anything. 96% dead, 4% discharged. China never had those stats at any point. Because we are still mainly only testing people who go into hospital, obviously I'm not saying this is the true fatality rate. But there has to be a huge, huge amount of untested mild cases to turn this into a low-ish death rate?? I really hope so. But even then, 96% who have been hospitalised so far have died!! This is horrifying.

I keep trying to 'rationalise' this figure in my head but cannot. If 96% of those hospitalised are dying. What does this mean??

Somelady · 04/04/2020 01:21

They can't have. Maybe we are just not keeping tabs on people after they are well enough to leave hospital. Also it's only just kicking off here.

SistemaAddict · 04/04/2020 02:10

How the hell was this allowed to happen? We knew it was coming, then we knew it was here and then we knew we were following Italy. Why the hell didn't the government act sooner to protect us all? Why didn't those that could take action and stay at home do so earlier? Why did people carry on going to massive events like Cheltenham, and going on holiday? I'm stunned that things have been allowed to get so bad. Yes, there's free will and we don't live in a dictatorship but fucking hell, it's like the government actually invited COVID-19 over and gave it 5 star all inclusive accommodation despite knowing it would trash the place and then has the gaul to act horrified when it does exactly as predicted. I'm so angry.

EmeraldShamrock · 04/04/2020 02:17

People are definitely out more. I hope people see sense the weekend though I doubt it, there will be lots of police on the street, wasting resources rounding up the sheep.

TheMidnightSpecial · 04/04/2020 02:20

I hope so. But I don't know. Those are the figures. Obviously milder than hospital cases are not being detected. I think this is more serious than is being reported though. And I'm not saying that as a conspiracy theorist. The raw data is enough. Of 'resolved' is discharged from hospital or died, 96% died, 4% recovered. Unless there is an enormous amount of milder cases going undetected (why we should be testing properly), this is a terrifying number. Wish we knew xx

TheMidnightSpecial · 04/04/2020 02:29

Definitely some rowdy shouting people on the streets tonight where I am, and then I'm in quite a quiet area

EmMac7 · 04/04/2020 02:34

It takes a long time to recover from this virus in hospital. The recovered stats will start coming up soon.

Somelady · 04/04/2020 02:55

Is there a problem with remdesivir supply ?

Somelady · 04/04/2020 02:56

Never mind that of course there is

Hi

I want to ask people what they do if they feel others are scaring them with paranoia? I know things are going to get worse before they get better but it does not help when someone says to you that when we are told we can go out for exercise that is wrong and that by doing so we are putting ourselves in danger. And that when a friend of mine has to take her child to school because he has to go to school due to his autism, I am told she is an unfit mother putting herself and her child at risk by taking him to school.
