Is everybody still getting dressed daily?

Is there any point anymore?

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 12:37

Yes I’d feel much worse if not plus all the dc get dressed

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 03/04/2020 12:38

Felt really down yesterday, so full face of makeup today and hair done. Feeling mentally better and ready to kick ass today!

Carbosug · 03/04/2020 12:44

Yes get dressed, albeit in casual weekend clothes, every day and put on a bit of makeup.
I'd feel awful sitting around in pyjamas with unbrushed hair every day.

LolaSmiles · 03/04/2020 12:45

I'm getting up and dressed as normal, but normal as in being around the house and doing local errands clothing.

Typically I'm wearing leggings, longline top and a slouchy cardigan.

BlueJava · 03/04/2020 12:45

Yes, I have kept my old routine, but get up at 7am instead of 6am as not commute. Still shower, wash hair, dress in casual (not smart casual) clothes. The only difference is I don't commute but walk to the next room and my desk. I've hardly changed anything, apart from not going out and working longer in the evening as no commute back.

HebeMumsnet · 03/04/2020 12:55

I am getting dressed every day but I was always such a scruffbag anyway, there wasn't really much room for me to lower standards, to be honest.

DH has weirdly started ironing shirts for Zoom calls, even though he never wore a shirt to the office and DD has mostly been dressed as Batman or a Flamenco dancer. They're all showing me up.

renegadeoffunk · 03/04/2020 12:57

I've never understood the appeal of pyjamas, I think they're really uncomfortable - they always seem to ride up or twist around. And they're cold.

I'm wfh so I'm always showered and dressed. I'm wearing casual outside of work things every day but I do my make up when I have video conferences.

Meruem · 03/04/2020 13:00

I find it interesting that so many people rely on various routines to get them working. I've wfh for a couple of years now and all I need to do to get "in the zone" is to sit at my desk! Doesn't matter what I'm wearing or whether I have make up on. When I worked in an office 5 days a week I still had the odd unproductive day when I couldn't be assed to get much work done, despite being dressed/made up. What I do to my outer self has no bearing on my mind/mood, although I appreciate its different for other people.

I always wear PJ's (but they're clean as I never wear them in bed). I only wear "proper" clothes if I need to go out, then as soon as I'm home the PJ's are back on! I'm comfy and happy and I'm also single, so no partner to judge my slobbishness!

Namelesswonder · 03/04/2020 13:01

Yes, wfh so breakfast, shower, clothes and log on for 8am. Casual dress though, not office clothes.

pigsDOfly · 03/04/2020 13:36

I'm retired and so I'm pretty much following the same routine I do every other day of my life as regard getting dressed

Shower, dress in causal clothes, usually jeans and jumpers at this time of the year, and sometimes - depending on mood - a little bit of make up just so that if I catch myself in the bathroom mirror I look vaguely human.

I have never understood the appeal of sitting around in pyjamas all day long. I'd feel so unmotivated and down if I didn't get dressed everyday.

The only time I've been in pyjamas all day is when I've been really ill in hospital. Even when I'm under the weather at home I get dressed.

I'm not ill, and pyjamas are nightwear, why would I want to sit around in nightwear all day?

If I catch this horrible virus not doubt I will be in my pyjamas all day but until then I'll be getting dress as usual.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/04/2020 13:40

I'm good at this as I have a chronic illness!

Morning- Potter about, have shower, get dressed in joggers/harems/loose dungarees/jogger jeans/leggings and a soft top, with cosy cardigan if needed. Crop top instead of bra.

Evening- change into pyjamas and dressing gown after dinner

Even if I'm in pain and feeling very unwell I feel better in lounge wear than pyjamas during the day. I'm much better health wise than I used to be but am used to hanging around the house a lot. Just as well!

ooooohbetty · 03/04/2020 13:53

Yes! I hate not getting dressed. I think it's lazy not to get dressed.

Mrsjayy · 03/04/2020 14:14

I am like you @Bluewavescrashing I have a disability and i need to get clothes on to feel a bit more human, although i love my Pjs and dressing gown but not all day.

Thedogshow · 03/04/2020 14:20

Yes, in my activewear mostly

expatinspain · 03/04/2020 14:26

Yes. I think it's much better for mental health to get up, shower and put your clothes on when you're at home for a prolonged period like this. I'm usually pretty relaxed about this kind of thing and get changed into pjs when I get home from work and sometimes stay in them all day on a Sunday, but at the moment I feel it's better to have a daily routine.

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/04/2020 14:26

Sometimes I get dressed for an hour or so. Grin

girlicorne · 03/04/2020 14:29

Yes definitely, I always feel disgusting if I stay in my jamas so I still get dressed and put on make up and straighten my hair, I ll also be fake tanning later ready for shorts in the garden at the weekend. I think I m abnormal about the bra thing as I don’t get it, I feel so uncomfortable without one i wear one constantly, even a soft one for bed!

ScatteredMama82 · 03/04/2020 14:57

Yes, I feel crap if I don't get dressed, wash my hair and put a wee bit of make up on. Even just to stay at home. I'm dressed in leggings and jumpers, but I am dressed.

CrowleysBentley · 03/04/2020 15:47

I'm showering every morning and changing from pyjamas into Jersey trousers and top and big comfy cardigan or leggings and long jumper/tunic/dress, with a stretchy crop top thing instead of a bra which does sod all to support anything, but does stop my (big, annoying) boobs from getting in the way so much. So as close to pyjamas as clothes can be without actually being pyjamas.

I am not bothering with makeup or hair now though, though I am keeping up my skincare routine so that my face doesn't break out in a million spots.

Ginfordinner · 03/04/2020 18:00

I'm wondering if this slobbing around in pyjamas is an age/generational thing? I'm 61 and have only not got dressed if I have been so ill that I have stayed in bed.

I absolutely hate staying in my night clothes all day. I'm not the most sartorial dresser, but at least I am fully clothed.

LolaSmiles · 03/04/2020 18:17

Yes. I think it's much better for mental health to get up, shower and put your clothes on when you're at home for a prolonged period like this
I agree with you.
I find that the days I'm in trackies and lounge wear (which are really just day pyjamas) I get less done than if I've got dressed.

Today I've got leggings, baggy nursing top on and a cardigan, no make-up, hair shoved up but it's dressed and ready to do things.

Franticbutterfly · 03/04/2020 18:23

Yes, normal clothes, shower, hair and make up every day. Im not letting this affect my every day life too much.

EightNineTen · 03/04/2020 18:27

Yes, although I went about a week without a shower because I was in the garden every day and kept thinking there wasn't much point if I was only going to get dirty again. (I had strip washes every day.)

It's not good for my mental health so I'm making more effort now, I can imagine me spiralling slowly into a depression if I don't.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/04/2020 18:30

I'm living in my yoga clothes, I think it counts.

thequeenbeyondthewall · 03/04/2020 18:42

Only in loungewear and hoodies. Got caught out today as my boss organised a last
Minute video meeting and I had time for eyebrows or get changed. Eyebrows won.

Luckily they were all in hoodies aswell so it was fine. They have set the bar now!

I think I've put jeans on twice in two weeks and once was because I had to go shopping.
