Surely we have to be close to peaking??

Germany aren’t classing deaths as Covid if they have other underlying conditions

So someone suffering with cancer will die of cancer with maybe only a note that there was complications with covid also

midgebabe · 01/04/2020 18:03

Perhaps they obey the guidelines better?

Had the German friends on the phone a few weeks back telling us to ignore our government and isolate immediately

TryingToBeBold · 01/04/2020 18:04

@NemophilistRebel ah thank you. I wondered why their death rate was so low..

Zilla1 · 01/04/2020 18:05

You're welcome, Trying, though I'm conscious I sail the seas of saying what everyone knows already, where my opinion is wrong (most times) and where I'm an arse (always). Probably better than my feeble attempts at comic whimsy.

TryingToBeBold · 01/04/2020 18:05

No no. @midgebabe

I meant they are the 6th most infected country in the world. Yet their deaths are low.

Sammy867 · 01/04/2020 18:05

You can’t look at the death rates, only the hospital admission data or the new infections data. This is because in the uk they won’t release the numbers as part of the data until the family have been informed and allowed the release. Some of the figures from today were from weeks ago, some were from a few days ago and yes some would be from yesterday but it’s impossible to tell from the data they’re releasing. They’re now counting community deaths so the numbers will also go up due to that. You could look at overall death figures rather than daily but I’m assuming some families may not have been informed from yesterday yet and their numbers will be part of next week.

1forsorrow · 01/04/2020 18:06

@1forsorrow why the fuck were you on the beach then? You don't fucking own it! It's a public space and I'm allowed to exercise there. Do you go out for exercise?

Frigginella · 01/04/2020 18:10

Our infection rates are also much much higher. I personally know of 1 person tested postitive for it, he passed it on to 3 others all showing symptoms and not mild ones however only the positive tested person is included in those numbers as they are treating themselves at home. 3 of those 4 were also still working as key workers also, in nursing & caring roles

EffOrf · 01/04/2020 18:12

Why not look on a reputable news site OP rather than asking randoms on the internet

TheLadyAnneNeville · 01/04/2020 18:14

@frigginella... that’s terrible. So, those same key workers are infecting the most vulnerable as well as others.

midgebabe · 01/04/2020 18:15

Whoops!

Some suggestion that it hit their younger population first

Manchestermanchester · 01/04/2020 18:15

@Orangeblossom78 surely it’s more?

Frigginella · 01/04/2020 18:15

Well they were. But they were following guidance on PPE which doesn’t include masks unless showing symptoms.

Frigginella · 01/04/2020 18:16

Obviously they all self-isolated as soon as symptoms showed

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 01/04/2020 18:17

My sister is a doctor in Milan. She says their figures are way below reality because they didn't test elderly in nursing homes and many homes lost/will lose 50% of their residents. Thousands more than recorded have died

louise5754 · 01/04/2020 18:17

Questions like this aren't helpful. Unless you're medical or government non of us will know exactly.

I don't mean this to you OP. People are just spreading gossip they have heard. Just rely on the news.

aWeaponCalledtheWord · 01/04/2020 18:18

i’ve been in isolation for 16 days now and got my ‘official’ shielding letter today.

so, what happens to me in 12 weeks that means i suddenly am not at a high risk of dying if i contract the virus?

i get that lockdown flattens the curve so the NHS can cope. but then 1.5 million people are added back into the viral soup and what happens then?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 01/04/2020 18:21

so, what happens to me in 12 weeks that means i suddenly am not at a high risk of dying if i contract the virus?

You can still get the virus but the NHS hopes it will be better able to deal with you by then. Its kicking the can down the road, but also building a better road at the same time.

bongsuhan · 01/04/2020 18:27

"Germany aren’t classing deaths as Covid if they have other underlying conditions

This has been debunked a long time ago.

Thripp · 01/04/2020 18:29

I just cannot bear it, I might have to avoid the news, its just too awful

The same could be said of the CV hysteria on MN at the moment.

iVampire · 01/04/2020 18:29

It’s a minimum of 12 weeks for shielded people

If the disease is pushed back, as is happening in China, then perhaps we might get a few weeks of relaxing the rules (so we can do what everyone else does during lockdown, and go out for exercise and maybe even essential food/meds shopping)

But I expect we might be back inside if they think there will be a second wave in winter

Bluntness100 · 01/04/2020 18:32

BTW, I expect everyone understands

I don’t think people do understand. There is a lot of folks simply comparing death rates on here and calling it analysis.

The media doesn’t help, a lot of them do the same, it’s an easy way to do it, and some scare monger, the bbc for example hasn’t behaved too well during this. They’ve just announced we will be over a thousand a day, and there fore worse than Italy, if we keep doubling.

Which mathematically is true, but clearly the percentage of increase slows as the numbers get bigger, so continual doubling is highly unlikely based on our rate of infection..

Lazy scaremongering reporting.

Nobody is allowed out for exercise in Spain and look at the figures. We are going to pass them if we insist on practicing our I’ll advised right to roam free as long as we stay 2 meters away

Alsohuman · 01/04/2020 18:36

Addenbrookes - our local hospital - says peak in four weeks.

BirdandSparrow · 01/04/2020 18:36

Partly because Spain locked down later than it should have done and let various large gatherings (Intl Women's Day march, a large political rally and several football matches) go ahead at the beginning of March.
