How great is she?

I know we like Chris Whitty too (does anyone know how he is?) But I think she may be even clearer and calmer. A lovely manner of authority without talking down to us.

Wouldn't it be great if something that came out of all this was that young girls have a new role model in the mix with their Instagram folk?

Cary2012 · 30/03/2020 15:53

She is bloody awesome OP!
I luffs her.

SentimentalKiller · 30/03/2020 15:53

Agree. She is by far the best speaker we've had. Obviously knowledgeable and very calm and clear

Egghead68 · 30/03/2020 15:53

I think she speaks clearly and comes across as answering the questions directly and honestly.

I wonder if she will be reprimanded for being so honest about the timeline though.

ethelredonagoodday · 30/03/2020 15:54

I think she's great. Very calm and informative.

Patch23042 · 30/03/2020 15:54

I could not agree more OP.

Makeitgoaway · 30/03/2020 15:56

Egg head, I get the impression she won't care if she is Grin

SavoyCabbage · 30/03/2020 15:56

I love how she will go over what she's just said if a journalist tries to sensationalise or twist wants she's saying. She stands for no fools.

Brookeinabook · 30/03/2020 16:00

Yes she comes across as sensible and trustworthy

lightyearsahead · 30/03/2020 16:00

Love her, a great role model for all young women.
She is awesome.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 30/03/2020 16:02

Yep, she is brilliant. I have so much respect for her for giving us an idea of the timeline. It wasn't what I wanted to hear and I know there are no guarantees, but I feel confident and comforted by her.

She is the only one who I don't think is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

SleepWithTheFishes · 30/03/2020 16:03

Yep, top notch.

SleepWithTheFishes · 30/03/2020 16:04

I know we like Chris Whitty too

We do, but how scary is he in that advert? Dead behind the eyes, like a robot.

Makeitgoaway · 30/03/2020 16:05

Yes, that is a shockingly unflattering bit of cinematography (is that the right word?)

OP posts:
JustW1lliam · 30/03/2020 16:06

Agree, superb. Was thinking exactly the same. Amazing role model and deserves some big recognition after all this. So grateful for the experts we have. They really seem to know their stuff are clear headed, answer every question and calm. Jennie in particular. She seems to be at nearly all the briefings, she must be shattered.

bengalcat · 30/03/2020 16:07

Pragmatic and to the point - I like her

GirlsInGreen · 30/03/2020 16:11

Dr Harries is so clear and calm - she's so on top of her brief, really impressed.

Have to say my 12 year old dd won't watch her 'she gives me the creeping willies 'Confused

MutatedCat · 30/03/2020 16:14

Seems to be the only one so far who hasnt contracted CV. I said to DH, just proves men don't wash their hands enough/properly Grin

Makeitgoaway · 30/03/2020 16:14

I wonder what her background is? I think I can hear a trace of something northern and (maybe) working class but haven't been able to find much online.

OP posts:
Sillyscrabblegames · 30/03/2020 16:15

Yes she is just brilliant! Compelling, approachable and doesn't miss a single nuance in those journalists questions! She has been the best speaker so far in my view.

Playdoughbum · 30/03/2020 16:17

She’s the best. I feel reassured every time she’s on!

LouLou789 · 30/03/2020 16:19

We absolutely love her. Explains things so clearly and calmly.

ethelredonagoodday · 30/03/2020 16:21

She sounds to me like she has an East Midlands type accent. Could be totally wrong though!

Lumene · 30/03/2020 16:26

She is very straight forward.

I don’t get why she says we shouldn’t be testing more widely and contact tracing though.

definitelygc · 30/03/2020 16:29

She's absolutely brilliant. I feel a lot calmer about the situation knowing she's involved in the decision-making. Also very good point that she's the only one who's managed to not contract CV! Someone who actually practises what she preaches.

Does anyone else get slightly annoyed when all the male politicians refer to her as "Jenny"? Surely Dr Harries would be more appropriate given her role. I can't imagine her referring to the PM as "Boris".

LeaveTheBottle · 30/03/2020 16:31

Ah, so not just me then who thinks she's fantastic Smile

She has a very calm, but direct manner, which is a difficult strike to balance. You don't feel like she's trying to fob us off, nor put the fear of god into us.

@ethelredonagoodday, interesting. That's my original neck of the woods, so I wonder if I'm also naturally soothed by the familiar accent... 🤔

Regardless though, she's awesome.
