How great is she?

I know we like Chris Whitty too (does anyone know how he is?) But I think she may be even clearer and calmer. A lovely manner of authority without talking down to us.

Wouldn't it be great if something that came out of all this was that young girls have a new role model in the mix with their Instagram folk?

I think she's fab. Said to my DH last night how much I loved her as she's the only one I really trust as you can just tell she isn't saying BS. Love that she won't be misquoted either.

FFSFFSFFS · 30/03/2020 17:31

@Bluntness100 - oh I love it when you pop onto a thread with all your calm knowledge!

I don't want to sidetrack this thread - but since you're here - what's your current opinion on what she said about the 6 month timeframe??

GabsAlot · 30/03/2020 17:35

I like her speech but she was wrong about schools and mass gatherings therefore i dont know if we should put trust in everything she says

EricaNernie · 30/03/2020 17:36

The three scientists are great imo and well done Boris,

RandomlyChosenName · 30/03/2020 17:37

I think she is brilliant. So very calm.

Just because we have progressed down the timeline now, doesn’t mean anything done further back was wrong.

Makeitgoaway · 30/03/2020 17:40

I don't think they were necessarily wrong about schools and mass gatherings at the time either, it was always expected that they would be closed.

OP posts:
Lulaloo · 30/03/2020 17:40

Love her, so clear, calm and says it how it is!

Foobydoo · 30/03/2020 17:43

I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her!
Unfortunately she is hugely popular.
She relays the government lines in a calm and reassuring manner and people are lapping it up.
She lied about PPE.
Blatenly disregards WHO guidance saying it is not applicable to the U.K.
Actively encouraged people to go out and about to events such as Cheltenham, this will have caused a huge rise in cases.
Downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic in the early days when herd immunity was in the table.
Brushed of a press question yesterday regarding NHS staff being highly concerned that deaths are vastly being under-recorded.
I find her insincere snd disingenuous. She is an excellent speaker but I do not trust what she says at all.

QueSera · 30/03/2020 17:47

Agree with everything @Foobydoo says. Can't bear Dr Harries.

Zilla1 · 30/03/2020 17:49

q - are you concerned about social media where HCPs say they don't have the PPE they need?
a - on the PPE, there's been a huge amount delivered...

So doesn't answer the question and has been part of the machine that has put HCPs lives at risk for weeks when government has gone from 'everyone has the PPE they need' to 'there's all the PPE needed in the warehouses' to 'the army are making a heroic effort' when HCPs on social media and the BMA have made these lies so clear that government spin had to change. And before anyone says, no we did;t have the correct PPE weeks ago when they said we did and just used it up.

NHS Front line here have not had a PPE delivery for weeks, have not got sufficient/the correct/unexpired PPE and HCPs under-60 without pre-existing conditions are dying and ventilated. If we did, we wouldn't be asking dental surgeries and B and Q and others and driving around to collect the (still incorrect) PPE.

You can all 'luffs her' and think she's as wonderful as sliced bread. She's as responsible for putting HCPs at risk as the rest of them.

stayathomegardener · 30/03/2020 17:49

@Ragnarok Cheltenham has had very high numbers. Dd is/was a student there and many students who worked in the bars at the racecourse came down with it within 5-8 days, fortunately most seemed to manage mild symptoms at home but will have passed it on to the wider community first.

Inkpaperstars · 30/03/2020 17:51

Oh god Dominic Raab - I'm having to force myself to concentrate - if you're so boring that a global pandemic can't make you interesting you've got a problem.

I literally dozed off. Just woken up, missed all the questions Smile

lyralalala · 30/03/2020 17:51

Although I suspect she’s smart enough to know in future she should be very clear indeed and a little less waffle when asked questions.

I think that's one of the biggest lessons that needs to be learned from this.

They've all been so waffley! Information has been miscontrued, minsunderstood, or outright twisted, as a result.

I suspect she's one of the few who'll recognise it and improve though, most of the policians won't even recognise the issue.

480Widdio · 30/03/2020 17:53

@Makeitgoaway I know two people who contracted Coronavirus after attending the Cheltenham Festival.

SistemaAddict · 30/03/2020 17:56

No, I don't like her. I find her duplicitous as per pps. She ignores the WHO, encouraged large gatherings and didn't think we needed to close schools. Yes, she's calm and confident but I don't trust her. She'd make a great politician.

Bluesrunthegame · 30/03/2020 17:56

I'm with Foobydoo, I'm not sure I trust her. I can't decide why.

Ragnarok · 30/03/2020 18:00

I can’t get past anyone calling her or any of them awful, I’d love to see what they’ve achieved.

I called her awful. So if you'd like to know my achievements, I'm a vet, currently classed as a key worker. I attend farms on an almost daily basis, protecting this nations food supply and putting myself and my family in danger by doing so. I am ensuring that no other diseases get out of control or establish a presence in this country.

Over to you. What have you achieved?

Lynda07 · 30/03/2020 18:05

I've never heard of her so can't comment.

I've seen Chris Whittle spouting the party line with a straight face on TV, he seems OK.

What's the big deal?

Lynda07 · 30/03/2020 18:06

Oh blimey, I see she is the one with the green top. I have seen her on TV but can't say I've formed an opinion on her.

Mumista · 30/03/2020 18:08

It's great to see an older woman actually getting airtime.

And I reckon her accent has some West Country.

Helenj1977 · 30/03/2020 18:10

I think she should read the CBeebies bedtime story.

pocketem · 30/03/2020 18:17

She is absolutely terrible

Blatantly lied about school closings and mass gatherings having little to no effect on the infection spread, just a few days before they were put into place and we were told how important they were

Flat out lied about availability of PPE for NHS staff ( I'm still waiting for even a simple surgical mask)

Typical Oxbridge colonial attitude to "foreigners" at the WHO, insisting that their advice was only for poor countries, despite the fact that all the countries that have followed their advice have done much better at controlling their outbreaks.

The living embodiment of the un-deserved self confidence of the public school elite

RhubarbTea · 30/03/2020 18:18

I really dislike her and don't trust her at all. I think she speaks well but that doesn't mean we should trust what she stands for.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 30/03/2020 18:20

I like the way she comes across, she speaks very well, no umming and arring with Jenny. She reminds me of an old fashioned Headmistress!

I know we like Chris Whitty too

We do, but how scary is he in that advert? Dead behind the eyes, like a robot.

I thought that too! He’s like a scarey character out of Dr Who!

As for BJ he is still a knobhead and can fuck off.
