How great is she?

I know we like Chris Whitty too (does anyone know how he is?) But I think she may be even clearer and calmer. A lovely manner of authority without talking down to us.

Wouldn't it be great if something that came out of all this was that young girls have a new role model in the mix with their Instagram folk?

We have "call me Dave" to blame for the new informality. I agree both "Boris" and "Jenny" would have been unacceptable before that.

I worked in a bank c. 1990 when there was a suggestion from HO that staff should be allowed to call their managers by their first name. My manager assumed it was a prank, the idea was so preposterous Grin

Fsfs

A quiet voice to tell us why the science doesn't show large crowds standing Cheek by jowl are not at risk from spreading covid?.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/03/2020 17:11

She certainly is personable and probably should have been CMO, but I find her too woolly / interpretative when it comes to answering questions. Whitty sticks to the facts even though he has all the personality of a plank of wood.

itsgettingweird · 30/03/2020 17:11

I'm definitely team Rishi and Jennie.

Certainly the pair have shown some of the others up for what they are.

itsgettingweird · 30/03/2020 17:12

Sleep GrinGrin he reminds me the demon headmaster in that advert!

EricaNernie · 30/03/2020 17:13

They are both great, really impressive

lyralalala · 30/03/2020 17:13

@Freshairimportanttoo They must have heard your question - apparently Sir Patrick is in today's press conference with Dominic Raab

EricaNernie · 30/03/2020 17:14

Raassuring that's it.

MintyCedric · 30/03/2020 17:14

She's fabulous, calm and clear but no bullshit either - just what we need right now and a great role model.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/03/2020 17:15

I hope she sees this thread.

I need to formally apologise to Professor Harris as I called her professor Jenny on her mn thread.

I can only say that I was half asleep when I wrote it and really meant to write professor Harris.

I'm especially embarrassed as she answered my question!

WobblyAllOver · 30/03/2020 17:15

Freshair I think a strong leader is one that will change their mind when presented with new facts. Much better than to keep plodding on to save face or in a belief that once a decision has been made then deviating is a sign of weakness.

definitelygc · 30/03/2020 17:16

We have "call me Dave" to blame for the new informality. I agree both "Boris" and "Jenny" would have been unacceptable before that.

I'm not against informality in general, I just feel that in a major national crisis the public would be better taking advice from The Prime Minister and Dr Harries rather than "Boris and Jenny". If there was a time to assert some authority, this would be it.

Slurpy · 30/03/2020 17:16

I don't like her at all, I find her really evasive when it comes to questions.
And if it was her making the call on Cheltenham (and that Liverpool v Madrid match), then that was a terrible decision. It'll be hard to see the impact from that as we're not testing/tracing and people came in from everywhere and returned back home. But packing everyone in like sardines sounds like a recipe for disaster. It's the biggest sporting event of the UK calendar, it went ahead for reasons of economy, despite the risk to public health.

NotGenerationAlpha · 30/03/2020 17:19

Love her. Saw her yesterday and I thought she sounded so knowledgeable and calm.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/03/2020 17:20

*Harries

Ffs!

I personally think she's been great.

Lenny1980 · 30/03/2020 17:21

Have there been u-turns ? They always talked about taking the right action at the right time. Didn’t we just reach the right time for the actions? (Or at least what they perceived to be the right time).

definitelygc · 30/03/2020 17:22

Well Dominic Raab looks like a deer in the headlights today. Not doing much for national anxiety levels. Bring back Dr Harries please!

derxa · 30/03/2020 17:22

I love her and also the chief medic in Scotland Catherine Calderwood.

EricaNernie · 30/03/2020 17:22

Sir patrick is on tonight.

FFSFFSFFS · 30/03/2020 17:24

Oh god Dominic Raab - I'm having to force myself to concentrate - if you're so boring that a global pandemic can't make you interesting you've got a problem.

Ilovemypantry · 30/03/2020 17:24

I think she’s great, so calm and reassuring.

ChristmasTree999 · 30/03/2020 17:25

I have been impressed with her too. I like the way she answers questions, reassuring, measured, knowledgable and explains things in a way you can understand.

Growingboys · 30/03/2020 17:26

Agree, she's amazing. Weirdly my gay friends HATE her!

I think she's so sensible and calm and old school.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2020 17:27

I think she clearly knows her stuff, she wouldn’t have that job if she didn’t, clearly a very intelligent and capable woman.

However I don’t think she handled the timeline well, she presented it in a waffley way, it was clear what she meant but her words could be misconstrued, which they immediately were, it was the delivery.

She wasn’t straight to the point and then had to go back and confirm she’d never said we’d be in lock down for six months, which she didn’t, but she certainly wasn’t as clear as she could have been.

I think she’s powerful enough that no one is going to “reprimand” her. Although I suspect she’s smart enough to know in future she should be very clear indeed and a little less waffle when asked questions.

The thing is These are all very intelligent, very educated, very capable people. She lacks a bit of charisma, but does come across as approachable. However which ever way you cut it, these people are standing up there for a reason, they are capable, intelligent, educated, experienced, and responsible.

I can’t get past anyone calling her or any of them awful, I’d love to see what they’ve achieved.

Fartintheloft · 30/03/2020 17:27

I’m not keen, mainly for reasons already stated by PP’s but also because I agree with @GirlsInGreen ‘s daughter. Confused
