Have we had today's stats for the UK. The post 5pm ones? Can't find link.

Quartz2208 · 28/03/2020 17:55

China took 2 months to lockdown based on when it got out so hardly quickly

I thought it was fairly common knowledge that there are asympomatic cases etc they didn’t include

TheCanterburyWhales · 28/03/2020 17:57

UK figures for today came out at 5pm. Next lot will be 5pm tomorrow. Do you mean the ones that were released at 5 today?

itsgettingweird · 28/03/2020 18:03

Yolo that is interesting.

adiposegirl2 · 28/03/2020 18:08

minisoksmakehardwork

7news.com.au/lifestyle/healthmedicine/china-reports-deeply-disturbing-coronavirus-development-c-765460. I can't find any UK news reports so I am hoping this is something and nothing, but I suspect it's only a matter of time.

What was the article about?

Mrworried7 · 28/03/2020 18:40

I think if they are saying 20,000 dead will be good, it will be a hell of a lot more than that. Italy will be there in less than 2 weeks.

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 28/03/2020 18:53

Yes, today @TheCanterburyWhales

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 28/03/2020 18:55

There was a page that told you the increase per day and you could see previous days stats.

Quartz2208 · 28/03/2020 19:00

@adiposegirl2

Basically about the patients who tested positive but it says

At one hospital in Wuhan, doctors found that five of the 147 patients in a study tested positive again after recovery, Wang Wei, director of the city’s Tongji Hospital, told the state broadcaster CCTV yesterday.

In another briefing, deputy director of the Guangdong Centre of Disease Control and Prevention, Dr Song Tie, reportedly said there is no clear conclusion on why this happens and whether such patients could still be infectious.

The patients in Wuhan showed no symptoms after testing positive again, according to research done by the Wuhan medical.

The researchers also found no evidence they were still infections, as family members all tested negative.

I think its more likely faulty testing

I read this morning, can’t remember where as I’ve read so many things that in Italy they are counting anyone that dies now regardless of from what as having dies from the virus.

What they are doing is including anyone who tests positive in the covid-19 death figures, regardless of whether they died from the virus or with the virus but from other causes.

MissFlite · 28/03/2020 20:33

I noticed today that the stats on the BBC always say died with the virus rather than of it.

Namechangervaver · 28/03/2020 20:36

We are in complete lockdown too...

No we're not

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 28/03/2020 20:39

@LeeMiller

Whereas in Germany they are not, (I think). Isn't that a reason for some discrepancy in total figures?

Namechangervaver · 28/03/2020 20:41

I noticed today that the stats on the BBC always say died with the virus rather than of it.
If someone is dying every 1.5 minutes in Italy, I don't know how they'd have time to ascertain the true cause of death then report it to the public health body, in order to get it recorded against the national toll so that we have our 'deaths in 24hrs' number.

littlemixarerubbish · 28/03/2020 20:51

DH and I were discussing the stats last night. He loves numbers and graphs so has been following the info closely. But, my view is that it's very hard to drill down to what any of the stats actually mean, or rather how meaningful they are. All countries are collecting their figures in different ways. All countries have different testing regimes. Death is a pretty concrete category. However, many people who are unwell / elderly may have died anyway, it's hard to know what contribution CV made to the outcome.

I'm a HPC so I'm completely aware of the devastating impact CV is having. The best we can do is follow the guidelines as fully as possible so that we get through it, whatever the stats say.

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 28/03/2020 20:52

@Name

Yes.

Wellwhatalovelyday · 28/03/2020 20:59

@Yolo2 thanks for that article. I’ve been really struggling to get over the ‘omg we are all going to die’ - this helped a little

LeeMiller · 28/03/2020 21:01

@Allaboardthemagicbus2020 I read that too, but the head of the Robert Koch Institute in Germany (who issue the figures) said that isn't true, and anyone who is positive for Covid-19 gets recorded in their figures.

buttermilkwaffles · 28/03/2020 21:02

According to this, from the FT

"Saturday 28 March update of coronavirus mortality trajectories:

• UK passes Italy, 2nd only to Spain for deaths at this stage of outbreak"

Geepipe · 28/03/2020 21:05

I read a JAMA article on the WHOs website today that said communities who survive covid 19 will become immune as they have already located the antibodies in survivers blood. I also read the possible cause of people who have recovered and tested positive again is probably faulty tests so i hope so.

H1978 · 28/03/2020 22:34

I thought 20,000 seemed too high but reading some of these posts that this number is too low is making me doubt my thoughts and makes me feel a bit sick with anxiety

A lot will depend on how people react to the growing number of deaths but there’s really no dealing with the idiots who are convinced they are invincible and free to gather in parks and street corners Angry

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 28/03/2020 22:51

@LeeMiller

That is interesting. RKI very reputable so must have a good system in place.
