Another 260 confirmed dead still not nearly on the trajectory of Italy or Spain ?

Too early to tell??

OP posts:
NuffSaidSam · 28/03/2020 15:04

We're on generally the same trajectory (deaths doubling every three days approximately), we're just further behind.

Hopefully, if the social distancing works and the NHS can cope we won't continue in Italy's footsteps and the death rate will stabalise sooner than it has in Italy.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 28/03/2020 15:05

Yes we are, in fact our acceleration has been faster

WearyandBleary · 28/03/2020 15:06

They are not counting people who die in the community

They are not counting people who die in care homes

They are only counting people in hospital who have already been tested

Swooningmonkey · 28/03/2020 15:08

Many have died without having been offered the test. Surely without routine testing these numbers may as well be plucked from thin air.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/03/2020 15:09

I agree @Swooningmonkey if barely anyone is tested how do they know what they're dying of?! I don't understand.

Livelovebehappy · 28/03/2020 15:10

We’re running a couple of weeks behind Spain or Italy and unfortunately are apparently still in the early stages - will peak in a couple of weeks.

OlaEliza · 28/03/2020 15:11

We are in complete lockdown too...

LellyMcKelly · 28/03/2020 15:11

These are ONLY the statistics of people who die in hospital. There are hundreds more not being counted. Our strategy has been fucked from the very start. At our current rate we’ll surpass Italy and Spain.

Is that true? How do you know that? That's scary if it's TRUE.

Quickquestion2020 · 28/03/2020 15:16

Don't know why true capitalised.

iheartislesofwight · 28/03/2020 15:18

it worries me that some countries on lockdown longer than us have increasing death rates.

Abraid2 · 28/03/2020 15:20

If people die not having seen a doctor within two weeks, don’t they have to have a PM?

Tootletum · 28/03/2020 15:22

Wells see thousands more die soon enough. I think the overall estimate is best case 20,000 by the time this is over, might have got that wrong though. Probably on the low side.

Confuzzled123 · 28/03/2020 15:22

Yes. I don’t understand how Italy’s figures haven’t dropped yet. If the incubation period is max two weeks how are infections still so high?

feelingverylazytoday · 28/03/2020 15:23

Here is some information from people who actually know what talking about
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52056111from
No we are not expected to have more deaths than Italy or Spain.

ShellsAndSunrises · 28/03/2020 15:23

Me too. There was an “expert” on the news earlier who said that lockdown worked for China because they did it so quickly; but hadn’t made much of an difference for Italy or Spain. We did it even later than them.

I’m struggling today.

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/03/2020 15:24

Wow, we are now accelerating super fast. I thought Italy’s figures were dropping slightly.

StarsThatTwinkle · 28/03/2020 15:24

iheart The death rates may reflect people who have been ill and ventilated for a long time 4-6 weeks) i.e. were poorly well before the lockdown, but only passing away from the virus now.

YgritteSnow · 28/03/2020 15:24

Can you explain where you've got this theory from please?

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/03/2020 15:25

@feelingverylazytoday
That link doesn’t work. Can you post again pls. Thx

OlaEliza · 28/03/2020 15:25

This is why you all need to stay indoors and stop with this 'allocated exercise' bullshit.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 28/03/2020 15:25

It's exponential, so of course we will be like Italy and Spain just give it a few more weeks.

Womenwotlunch · 28/03/2020 15:26

@WearyandBleary- you are absolutely correct . My friend runs a care home and she has said that several people from other care homes have died of suspected Covid 19.
That figure of 260 is a drop in the ocean

OlaEliza · 28/03/2020 15:26

Sorry, stay at home. If you have a garden or balcony or whatever, it's ok to go outside. Same for essentials.

feelingverylazytoday · 28/03/2020 15:26

Confuzzled123 possibly because some older people are not being treated for their underlying conditions, and being left to die in their own homes. Some people are starting to speculate that the lockdown is becoming counter productive in that respect.
