Belarus president refuses to cancel anything and says vodka and saunas will beat Coronavirus.

Wow. Just wow!

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 20:17

I won’t try the sauna but if I get it, I might try the vodka....

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 20:17

Before anyone tells me off, I didn’t drink when I had pneumonia so wouldn’t really! But it’s fun to consider.

CrunchyCarrot · 29/03/2020 20:19

My exciting task for the day was dismantling the shower trap and scooping out all the clogged hair, soap scum and over disgusting stuff

I am so glad I'd finished eating before reading that, @Oakmaiden! Grin

Horehound · 29/03/2020 20:21

Oh yes, the shower soup is disgusting

Foobydoo · 29/03/2020 20:38

Is anyone else concerned about the press question answered by Jenny Harries today, that hospitals had contacted the press with concerns that deaths are being vastly under reported?
Jenny discounted concerns as usual.
Has there been any explanation from the government about the change in reporting deaths that occurred this week and the wording 'deaths in hospital'.

Thanks, that is kind. I will see if anything happens with sainsburys in next few days. Would suit us better as 6 large appetites so Morrisons box is probably a bit small.

Driver flouts lockdown to make 220 mile round trip to Salford to pick up some windows he bought on eBay - police stopped him on the M6 with his wife in the boot

colouringinpro · 29/03/2020 22:07

Is it just me? I just don't believe what J Harries says. 4-5 days ago she said PPE was sorted and it blatantly isn't.

Foobydoo · 29/03/2020 22:25

@colouringinpro
I feel the same about Jenny Harries.
She is unfortunately hugely popular.
She relays the government lines in a calm and reassuring manner and people are lapping it up.
She has concerned me on the figures.
Lied about PPE.
Blatenly disregards WHO guidance.
Was all over the tv a few weeks ago actively encouraging people to go out and about to events such as Cheltenham.
Brushed of a press question today regarding NHS staff being highly concerned that deaths are vastly being under-recorded.
She looks like a kindly nana but will have blood on her hands if she continues. Highly dangerous and disingenuous

peridito · 29/03/2020 22:30

@Foobydoo I'm not at all convinced by Harries on this .

@colouringpro - on March 5 Harries said ( I think it was at the select committee ) that the current max nos of daily tests was 2000 but that by the 13 March it would be 10,000 .To date the most tested in one day is 8911 .

I find it v disconcerting that she makes what purports to be a clear statement of fact which turns out to be false .Didn't she know the correct situation but believed it to be true? Or did she know there was no chance ?Did no one realise how that this kind of claim is easily verified or proved false ?

And I'm sorry but her patient explanations to us all that although we might associate Dyson with vacuum cleaners ,they could make other things like ventilators got right up my nose .She clearly hasn't heard of the fans ,hairdryers etc

Sometimes I wonder if Chris Whitty has been absent not so much through illness but through a desire to distance himself from bullshit .

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 22:37

Fingers crossed Helena that the roofers won't be doing any work now until this is all finished.

I dont either Colouringpro. What did it for me was them standing there saying that their scientific evidence showed their was no additional risk of allowing large scale open air events to take place only two weeks ago. Now we are at risk of being prosecuted for being out of the house for longer than an hour. Many people on here had already worked out how risky large groups of people packed together would be.

Very sad news that the ENT consultant lost his life.

I've learnt this evening of four more people i know who have had confirmed diagnosis of covid. Three have recovered with one of those acquired viral pneumonia and required hospital treatment aged 25. The fourth sadly died in her 30's. It must be now circulating this area at a fairly high rate.

boatyardblues · 29/03/2020 22:42

Very sad news that the ENT consultant lost his life.

Someone posted this article on a previous thread which talks about reports from Wuhan showing ENT specialists and ophthalmic surgeons being at particular risk: www.britishlaryngological.org/news/amended-bla-message-and-statement-president-mark-watson

peridito · 29/03/2020 22:52

The press are so tightly reined in at these briefings .

They are each allowed to ask one go , often raising more than one point .But clearly they are not allowed to follow up with any supplemental queries .So when they ask a question and it's not answered they just have to swallow that .

What's the point ? So we can all see how they fudge ?

Press to Gove
Does the dx of Boris and Hancock indicate that MPs have not been following recommended protocols ?

The virus is no respector of person....

Horehound · 29/03/2020 22:53

@mrshoho that wasn't a girl in Glasgow was it?

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 29/03/2020 22:56

what's wrong with a bloody drive um ...

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 29/03/2020 22:58

I really hope that Jenny Harries doesn't become the fall guy.

buttermilkwaffles · 29/03/2020 22:58

Italy and France have only been reporting deaths in hospitals in the official figures according to the New York Times, I think probably same thing in the UK, hence the clarification.

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 22:59

Yes as testing even in hospitals was only carried out on patients displaying specific symptoms until very recently, many medical staff would have been exposed to the infection. Two doctors have now died in the UK from this and how many more have been infected?

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 23:01

@Horehound no this was Hillingdon but I dont know if it will be recorded as Hillingdon or the area of the hospital in NW London.

buttermilkwaffles · 29/03/2020 23:11

Flight Radar global map showing that there are still a large number of US (mostly domestic?) flights, but a lot fewer everywhere else:

HeIenaDove · 29/03/2020 23:11

WTF is going on here

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 23:12

And have you seen the footage of the drive through testing at Chessington for NHS staff? The testers are not wearing adequate protective clothing still. I cannot believe it is still happening. Many of the people are rocking up with symptoms and quite possible they are infectious. Other countries have these testers in full hazmat gear. I saw this at the pilot testing places weeks ago but I thought now they would have tightened up.

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 23:14

@HelenaDove What is going on??

HeIenaDove · 29/03/2020 23:17

I cant work it out for sure but it looks like they were wrongly informed that someone had died of Covid so turned up in suits Ive just found it via Twitter.

The guys in suits are from an HA.
