@Horehound
Yesterday we were informed that the fire service are to assist with delivering goods and moving bodies.
The army are currently building the new hospitals and today we were told our finest Military brains are involved in logistical planning.

Alwayscheerful · 29/03/2020 18:51

@Namethecat 17.32
I agree , I heard what you reported too.

Horehound · 29/03/2020 18:53

@Alwayscheerful namethecat states we are in a state of emergency and we are not..
And the poster was asking about today's briefing not yesterdays

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 18:54

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52081389

this is the part about the country now being on an emergency footing.

picklemewalnuts · 29/03/2020 18:54

I haven't caught up but re military involvement, a friend has just been posted away to help with bigwig planning stuff. So they are mobilising in some form.

Horehound · 29/03/2020 18:55

Emergency footing is not a state of emergency

TwentyViginti · 29/03/2020 18:57

I thought we were now in a state of emergency? Declared from the news briefing? Gold command, military involvement, etc;

TwentyViginti · 29/03/2020 18:58

Oh footing

RedToothBrush · 29/03/2020 18:58

North West news has just reported there are 6 people who have been taken to court for the offences of 'going shopping for non essential items', 'returning from a party' and 'going for a drive because bored'.

Horehound · 29/03/2020 18:59

Well we aren't! Look it up?

Oakmaiden · 29/03/2020 19:03

still feeling a bit wiped out by cleaning out the fridge completely

My exciting task for the day was dismantling the shower trap and scooping out all the clogged hair, soap scum and over disgusting stuff. Envy

Freshairimportanttoo · 29/03/2020 19:05

Sounds like crazy to me if true.
Yet we have lay about round here spitting on people, coughing on then, getting pissed up on the same place everyday and nothing is done...
AND people are being fined for a drive.
I've been in for 10 days, dh been out once for milk. My dc not been out, what's wrong with a bloody drive and no I don't need petrol.

peridito · 29/03/2020 19:06

The Guardian has a rolling blog and always reports on the daily briefings as they happen so today look at 16.13 onwards

www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/mar/29/uk-coronavirus-live-mass-testing-lockdown-boris-johnson-covid-19-latest

Jerrick He announces he has put in place across the country measures to put the country on emergency footing, an unprecedented step in peacetime, he says

strategic coordination centres will be set up across the country led by gold commanders from the emergency services to lead communities through the challenging period - from Cornwall to Cumbria – with members of the armed forces embedded within these teams to plan local response to the virus.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 29/03/2020 19:08

"first 50,000 food parcels to those who are most vulnerable would be sent out this week"

So there are 1.5 million "most vulnerable" in the shielding group, but food is only being sent to 50,000 of them this week ? So the other 1,450,000 can just diet this week?

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 19:18

Beyond yes my thoughts as as well. There was a question on the gov site along the lines of 'do you have someone who can get you supplies etc?' so maybe they are helping those who have no one at all. It is saddening to imagine people too scared to go out or ask for help.

Qwaffee · 29/03/2020 19:26

For the ones that have signed up to the gov website for vulnerable people to register if they received a letter - how long did you have to wait to get a response? I registered my mum last Thursday and have had no email or text yet. Don’t know if it’s a backlog or it didn’t go through properly? It mentioned whilst doing it you could go back in and change details at a later date, if they changed, but I wasn’t given login details or anything? Can anyone offer any advice please?

HeIenaDove · 29/03/2020 19:32

The trouble with having someone to get a vulnerable persons supplies is you are restricted with what you can buy
Which means that you would have to go out more times. Which not only defeats the object but now also carries the risk of busybodies reporting you to the police.

Namethecat · 29/03/2020 19:46

I apologise if I heard wrong in state of emergency .
But I really thought that was reported in the BBC news early this evening, I will say 100% they spoke about good command.

Namethecat · 29/03/2020 19:46

gold command !

AvocadoOwl · 29/03/2020 19:49

We heard the gold command bit.

Givemeabreakpls · 29/03/2020 19:49

Absolutely Helena. My DF and DM are in the shielding group, I’m a lone parent with a small DD and I have to get their supplies and mine. It’s been tricky with no deliveries available where we are, and combined with the worrying trend of supermarkets frowning on people taking their children inside (I literally have no choice, there is no one to leave her with and she’s way too young to leave outside) and the small number of supplies I can pick up for both households, I am worried about the number of trips I have to take a week. I would be mighty relieved if the govt could help them as promised but as a pp said above, they’ve had no contact whatsoever with regards to any needs they have. It’s frightening.

Coquohvan · 29/03/2020 19:49

@DarnedSoccks

I suspect Boris was treated with one of these drugs.

Let’s just throw suspicions around shall we. Be helpful too keep this thread as factual as possible.

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 19:51

I know Helena, I've been shopping for 3 households and also having to do chemist drop offs and pick ups too. I'm trying to limit my time outside to protect my dh but there is no one else right now. If we can get online shopping it will make a big difference. I wouldn't want to be here waiting for the government emergency boxes. At the rate they're going of 50k by the end of the week we could be in for a long wait . I was thinking of you and your roof, I hope they decided to cancel it for now. You were right to want it postponed.

Quafee My husband signed up but yet to hear further. He did call the new Sainsburys no and also gave details so now waiting for them to contact us. I don't know about changing the details though.

Bessica1970 · 29/03/2020 20:00

MangePasTesOnglesVilain We’re shielding as vulnerable and filled out the .gov form but haven’t heard anything yet.

We’ve managed to get a Morrison’s box booked for next Wednesday though - have you seen them? £30 worth of essentials ( we’ve booked a veggie one and a meat one as we’re a family of 4). PM me if they’re all booked up as there’s a way of bypassing it if you’re vulnerable.

Also there’s a national coordination charity that can put you in touch with a local group who can help with shopping and prescriptions ( can’t remember their name but if I find I’ll come back here and post details).
Good luck

HeIenaDove · 29/03/2020 20:03

@mrshoho Thanks they havent put any more scaffolding up on the flats around the corner so hopefully its been postponed. The tenants in those flats might be a bit pissed off though with scaffolding there for months on end. They hadnt got to us with it yet.

Those food parcels wont even make a dent. @Givemeabreakpls yes my parents are 84. Dad still drives and will probably end up having to go out.

When i phoned them on Friday he said God Bless You to me before handing to phone to my mum. He doesnt say that sort of thing often.
