And I shall say it again. We are allowed out once a day for fresh air

It's like there is competitive isolation or folk who think they know better than government guidelines.

I know daily exercise is permitted.Hmm It's one of the exceptions.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 10/04/2020 22:02

@Borkins I have no dubbed these people Social Distance Warriors... and yes they are as bad as the more traditional Social Justice Warriors

saltinesandcoffeecups · 10/04/2020 22:02

Arnoldthecat · 10/04/2020 22:08

The Welsh are allowed out once per day for exercise, The English can go out as many times as they like..havent checked the Scots :)

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 22:08

saltines I love it 😂

RuffleCrow · 10/04/2020 22:09

That isn't what's happening @lubeybooby. Vast majority are following guidelines to the letter.

And no, a 400m limit is ridiculous unless you want everyone glued to google maps and not looking where they're going lest they overstep by a centimetre. The distance you travel has sod all to do with it. The number of people you come into contact with and for how long is what affects transmission.

RuffleCrow · 10/04/2020 22:15

@LilacTree1 wtf - is this like the worst ever episode of Midsomer Murders?! How can you be so certain? What are you backing those capital letters and exclamation marks up with? Glue?

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2020 22:21

"I'll continue my bench sitting, thanks"

You'd be fine in my village (Germany)
Doctors keen here on people of all ages getting more sun & Vit D, even sitting out

Police drove by the Rhine path (Germany)

As always, ignored the mostly elderly sitting one per bench, some of whom were stripped off to sunbathe
< oh the horror >
Ignored the families sitting on the grass

Stopped a line of cyclists who were speeding by walkers and making them step aside
Had a word with them

TakeMeOn · 10/04/2020 22:29

I have been taking my DD for a walk every day to a river. We usually stop there for a bit and feed the ducks. Sometimes we pass people on our walk there, and there are usually joggers on the field near the river but they don't really come close to where we are standing. I also walk to the shop when I need to go to buy food or medicine. I don't know why some people get so competitive over not leaving the house.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 22:34

Ruffle - it was a joke, sorry. It was meant to take the piss out of the hysteria but my bad, there’s no way for anyone to judge that at this time. Sorry.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 22:34

BigChoc “ Doctors keen here on people of all ages getting more sun & Vit D, even sitting out”

This makes sense.

On the radio yesterday, a German lawyer was talking about this. He also said sunbathing and sitting on benches is fine under German lockdown, as long as you keep the required distance from other people (think he said something like 5m for sunbathers, 1.5m when you're on the move?)

He felt the benefit of this approach is the police just deal with people who are getting too close, rather than getting into long-winded discussions about why someone is out, is it permitted, are they just resting briefly during exercise or have they been in one place for a while etc. It seemed pretty sensible to me.

Krisskrosskiss · 11/04/2020 00:27

Surely we want to keep people away from each other to prevent the spread of the virus? So making people stay within a certain distance of their property increases the risk of people being closer together rather than decreases it.... so that seems so pointless
Some people seem to focus on specific detail, wanting absolute rules.... the spirit of the guidelines is to avoid other people and crowded areas and to avoid putting any unnecessary strain on public services... that's what the focus should be on... not wasting time measuring how far a lone walker went from their house... or who bought more chocolate than was needed with their weekly shop.... some people have turned into real ridiculous zealots about this.

Inkpaperstars · 11/04/2020 02:32

I haven't seen anyone saying that we are not allowed outside. Where has that been said?

Technically we have to get 'fresh air' during one of the permitted reasons. I'm ok with that but it does worry me that disabled people or those with limited mobility possibly cannot exercise but do deserve to get a bit of fresh air if they don't have a garden.

Has someone been saying that no one is allowed outside? That is bizarre because they have been pushing the 'reasons' list for weeks now.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 11:58

Someone upthread said you’re allowed out more than once a day in England. If there’s a source for this, I’d be grateful.

Also, does anyone here know, if lockdown is relaxed, will it be written into regulations so I can actually show it to a police officer on my phone?

Thank you.

CornishYarg · 11/04/2020 13:23

@LilacTree1 The Government guidelines covering the lockdown said you could only leave your house for exercise once per day. But the actual legislation they put in place for England doesn't say this.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/6/made

This link sets out the differences between the different constituent countries of the UK.

www.itv.com/news/2020-04-10/how-do-the-coronavirus-lockdown-rules-differ-across-the-uk/

On your 2nd question, I'm not a lawyer but the legislation linked to above expires after 6 months. So if the restrictions are lifted sooner, new legislation would presumably be needed to do this.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 14:39

Cornish thank you.

Haffiana · 11/04/2020 15:55

The point with benches is YOU WILL KILL SOMEONE by sitting there.

I think this is mental illness.

BreathlessCommotion · 11/04/2020 16:12

I wish people were so bothered about killing people when they drive short distances, by SUVs and fly all over the world.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 16:16

Haffiana, I was joking about the bench, lesson learned.

Haffiana · 11/04/2020 16:22

LilacTree1 - sorry, completely misunderstood!

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 16:47

Haffiana, totally my bad
I thought I was known as the one who isn’t fussed and is tired of the hysteria, I’ve been shouted at for feeling that way, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Goodness knows what MN will be like when they realise we can’t stay in lockdown forever

donquixotedelamancha · 12/04/2020 08:42

The point with benches is YOU WILL KILL SOMEONE by sitting there.

I feel you are probably sitting down wrong.
