And I shall say it again. We are allowed out once a day for fresh air

It's like there is competitive isolation or folk who think they know better than government guidelines.

Watched a medical officer giving advice to children on the German children's news yesterday. He said it was important to get out into the fresh air, and driving to get there is ok.

ravensoaponarope · 04/04/2020 17:18

@swishthecat dim prob/ no problem. I was shocked when I read it!

WanderingLost167 · 04/04/2020 17:20

Does that include dogging?

Musmerian · 04/04/2020 17:25

@HopelessLayout - so how are you interpreting the exercise/ bike ride/ run? Of course you can go out to do those.

Nettleskeins · 04/04/2020 17:36

Cissy, there are times of day when you could go out with your young children, for example between 9 ,and 10am on weekday and you would be able to observe social distancing and take exercise which is condoned by the govt. Yes it is. Your children and your health will benefit from this. 30 mins if you.feel guilty but gove suggests an hour walking.

Nettleskeins · 10/04/2020 17:25

Bump.
Our local council (london) has sent an email update advising us not to leave the house except for vital supplies or health reasons. Exercise it is suggested would be better done indoors. The parks round here are almost.empty. I think it is a form of bulllying and not the guidance. A lot of bame people living in overcrowded circs with children, who they should be encouraging to get.30 mins of exercise a day outdoors. People take the stay at home.very literally round here. It is the middleclasses who are still.running, taking kids for a scooter ride, biking. Their health is not going to be compromised like that of the poorer families huddled indoors obeying the distorted "Rules". The parks are open, there are plenty of them, use them and socially distance. That is what.they.should be saying.

Davincitoad · 10/04/2020 19:40

But loads of people are taking the piss to soon this will not be allowed

BreathlessCommotion · 10/04/2020 19:46

Actually most of the evidence shows that the vast majority of people are following the rules. The irony being it makes those that aren't more visible. It also makes a better news story than "most people so as supposed to".

BreathlessCommotion · 10/04/2020 19:47

Also the modelling will have accounted for a certain percentage to ignore the rules.

Statistician999 · 10/04/2020 19:52

@Borkins

You can say it again and again, bit it still will not be true.

Borkins · 10/04/2020 20:06

What?
That we are allowed out once a day for fresh air

OP posts:
missmouse101 · 10/04/2020 20:12

Fresh air? Not a reason we are permitted out, no.

Travelban · 10/04/2020 20:19

Dh and I go for a walk 1 hour a day. The same walk we have done for several years. We have observed various things in that same walk.. Especially as we know lost of the families living around here..

Most people are good. However thede are some (a mibority who just can't help themselves and I suspect its the same everywhere).

The old couple driving to visit their kids very other day. The other older couple who park their car to come and walntheir dog down our lane every day.

The one or two neighbours who just have to get the handyman/labourer to repave their garden.

I suspect all of these around the UK will end up making things that bit worse but as long as the curve is OK they will be tolerated...

CallMeRachel · 10/04/2020 20:28

The other older couple who park their car to come and walntheir dog down our lane every day.

As long as it's within their local area this isn't again the rules. This has been done to the death tbh.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 20:36

Nettle I’d forward that email to the Home Office and your local MP.

runningpram · 10/04/2020 20:41

I feel common sense has disappeared for many posters
Seriously - going for a run once or even twice a day - when you don't see anyone, is not going to spread the virus Going for, gasp, a brief car ride to a quiet place to run or walk because you are less likely to see someone - is also not an issue.
Lounging around in a park with your mates having a BBQ is an issue.
As is driving to the Scottish Highlands/Lake District/ rural area with limited hospital beds to your second home/ in a motorhome.

Borkins · 10/04/2020 21:08

I left these threads. Full of judgement and fear.

I don't see what's wrong with sitting on a bench though. I go for a walk over the common each day. It's a 20min walk from my house there, and once there there's loads of trees, grass and hills that goes on for miles. There's also a few footpaths and though I do see other people I can easily avoid them.

While on my walk I sit on a bench on top of a hill and look at the view. I fail to see what's wrong with that as its not like I'm encountering anyone and that's the whole point of this isn't it? Or do we all have to do our daily walk in abject misery, not taking a minute to look at the scenery or have a bit of enjoyment?

I'll continue my bench sitting, thanks.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 21:45

Made they’re taping off benches in London. So if I use one, I’ll just pretend to cough and wave at my inhaler at the police. Sometimes I do need to stop and sit down.

BiddyPop · 10/04/2020 21:46

We must stay within 2km of the house for exercise - which most people seemed to respect. But enough didn’t that the police literally barricaded off the beach and pier in our town - within 2 km of the house - so we have lost that amenity. There are no parks within the 2km, so it’s doubly annoying.

But it could be worse, I did yoga in the garden insteAd in the sunshine. But I miss long walks - and sea air.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 21:46

The point with benches is YOU WILL KILL SOMEONE by sitting there.

This country has become a tragedy in a month.

missmouse101 · 10/04/2020 21:54

Stay at home.
Stay at home.
Stay at FUCKING home apart from a very few exceptions.
How much clearer does it need to be FFS.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/04/2020 21:55

the exemptions for leaving the house are obviously shortened so that they are memorable:
Only go outside for

shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible

one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household

any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person

travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home

the actual legislation behind these exemptions is as follows:
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/6/made

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 21:56

Miss “ Stay at FUCKING home apart from a very few exceptions.”

Daily exercise is permitted.

I just got the Boris letter today. I can see why some people are interpreting stay at home so strictly. Shit job, Boris.

Arnoldthecat · 10/04/2020 21:58

Havent read it all. Go read the law. You are allowed out as many times as you like and further there are no restrictions to distance. There is NOTHING in law to stop you from driving or travelling somewhere for excercise.
