It's like there is competitive isolation or folk who think they know better than government guidelines.

The reality is that anyone with an iota of intelligence can use common sense. This is about stopping a virus, not making a point.

If you live in a large city next to a small park, then limit your outings do everyone can remain 2m apart. If you are in the middle of nowhere then go out in the open air and enjoy it for as long as you want, there is no danger to you and you represent no danger to others.

I do find it bizarre that people are careful about being 2m from others but the tube remains open with people actually touching one another. It is like two different countries.

Evenquieterlife33 · 25/03/2020 18:38

I swear people around where we live are chomping at the big to have police on the streets. Facebook group complaints about runners passing by people and breathing heavily - who didn’t move out of walkers way- like the walkers are routed to the spot and unable to move themselves, people asking “where are the police???” The Park was so busy etc. When you know and see it’s a few people out walking and a few kids running about. I feel like some people just want the drama. I’m finding most people really sensible here. And if others don’t move aside- we do ourselves.

Blakes77 · 25/03/2020 18:53

I was out for two hours today and yes there were a lot of people on my route to the quite place I was going, but EVERYONE was really sensible, moving away from each other, crossing the street if they saw other people coming, and waving. There are almost no cars on the roads and the air is clean. Kids are peddling up and down the street on their bikes. People are sitting out on deck chairs outside their houses, neighbours are chatting at least 3 meters from each other. I swear I haven't seen any nonsense at all.
In a way it's kind of nice. ds went out for a jog and I didn't have to worry about weirdos (too many people outside) or traffic. It's like living in the 50s. I'm sure there are people being stupid but I haven't seen any,

LetTheCabbagesDie · 25/03/2020 20:55

1) treat the government's requirements with respect
2) use your common sense and think carefully about the risks associated with your specific circumstances
3) stop judging people you don't know: the total surplus of competitive wankery is getting very boring

Yes, that sums it up nicely.

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/03/2020 20:59

I did my shift in the supermarket today. Lockdown hasn't even slowed them down. People in for a packet of crisps or a pack of fags and a lottery ticket...ffs.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 25/03/2020 21:30

Cigarettes I understand, crisps and a lottery ticket though ConfusedHmm

BeijingBikini · 25/03/2020 21:35

My town is super quiet and everyone is being sensible. I was out lunchtime for a walk and there was very few people - and they all crossed the road or moved to get past each other. Lots of lovely wildlife about.

HopelessLayout · 25/03/2020 22:00

@HopelessLayout you would assume that people going out for fresh air are exercising in some way though? They aren't just going and standing in the street having a breathe of the fresh air.

@yearinyearout I wouldn't assume that. The police in my city had to issue a warning this morning that sunbathing in the park is not permitted due to the actions of a great number of fools yesterday. If people continue to do it the parks will be closed to all.

TheGreatWave · 25/03/2020 22:07

Apparently the green space near my old house was heaving today, I think the irony, that [poster on FB] was also out walking, was lost on her. Apparently though she had been to the chemist, so her trip was worthy or something. Someone else doesn't dare come out of her property because there are people around.

Oh and my now local group, one member has the opinion that any child caught out in a group should be put in care.

Maybe MN hasn't quite reached the dizzy heights yet.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 22:14

Maybe MN hasn't quite reached the dizzy heights yet

Early days, Greatwave early days. I doubt we've heard the last let all the cabbages DIE you SELFISH FUUUUCKKKKERRRSSS yet.

People where we live are being brilliant. I haven't seen one idiot so far.

BertieBotts · 26/03/2020 08:49

Being out in a green space isn't a problem if you're staying 2m away from other people, so it's not at all ironic to be outside and notice people standing much closer and complain about this.

dorapicasso · 26/03/2020 09:10

With the exception of my neighbours who yesterday packed up bikes, kids and picnic and headed out of our London suburb to a local beauty spot for their exercise/day out (as man on BBC said it was ok to drive to where you want to exercise), everyone I've seen locally has been doing what they were asked to do, going for a run, dog walk etc. One neighbour has an allotment 15 mins walk away so he walks there and back. He won't let his cabbages die!

Meanwhile, as a menopausal woman I'm sitting here with my 'exhausted genitals' (my new favourite MN phrase, from another thread yesterday) contemplating a short stroll later.

WobblyAllOver · 26/03/2020 09:16

He won't let his cabbages die!

Phew! I am most concerned now for peoples cabbages Grin

larrygrylls · 26/03/2020 09:16

I think it is fine to be angry and complain if you see a large group of people congregating irresponsibly.

On the other hands, families going for short drives to walk somewhere with space, mind your own business!

MN would have been a fertile recruiting ground for the Stasi.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:17

Someone posted a ticket re non essential driving on here today

Thought that quite interesting

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:18

Or notice from police can’t remember

ShanghaiDiva · 26/03/2020 10:47

This was the police notice posted.

And I shall say it again. We are allowed out once a day for fresh air
LetTheCabbagesDie · 26/03/2020 15:11

ShanghaiDave

That's interesting, I suppose it's their interpretation of the regulations imposed. One could state that the travel is necessary to allow them to exercise as per their rights. If the immediate area surrounding their home is overcrowded, they wouldn't be able to adhere to the 2m and social distancing rules there.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 26/03/2020 16:15

Sorry ShanghaiDiva not ShanghaiDave GrinGrinGrinGrin

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 26/03/2020 16:18

On the cabbage front...it's been confirmed again today - allotment holders, you may continue to tend your brassicas Grin

TabbyMumz · 26/03/2020 17:02

Are cabbages actually growing at the moment? Usually this time of year it's just seedlings.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 26/03/2020 17:42

Yes, Tabby mine are mere seedlings. I overwintered some broccoli though, and put those in earlier in the week.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 26/03/2020 19:12

Kill the seedlings! Kill them all!

GinnyStrupac · 26/03/2020 19:35

I like cabbage. Even my DCs like cabbage. PP calls HMQ 'Cabbage'. Dig for victory. Feed the nation. Let the cabbages live.

Choo975 · 26/03/2020 19:48

There is 100 x more risk going to the supermarket every week than going out. Who knows who has sneezed on your can of beans or Carrots. Walking is fine as long as you keep your distance. Where I live I haven’t seen anyone abusing this.
