And I shall say it again. We are allowed out once a day for fresh air

It's like there is competitive isolation or folk who think they know better than government guidelines.

lubeybooby · 24/03/2020 16:10

in other countries on lockdown there have been specific guidelines for this though, like no more than 400m from your house, which I think is perfectly sensible, easy to include in the advice and will stop everyone thinking they can drive wherever they want 'for fresh air' which is not remotely sensible given the situation.

Just because it hasn't been specifically said by our PM doesn't mean we can't look to other countries for good guidelines instead of pushing the boundaries like an army of determined toddlers hell bent on working our NHS into the ground

Borkins · 24/03/2020 16:19

The mass psychology of all this is fascinating
Most folk just want to do the right thing, want others to do the right thing. To save lives and the NHS.
But some folk, I sense, just revel in being holier than thou. Enjoy the thought of everyone being locked down and living in a policed country because their own lives are pretty locked down anyway.

I interpret it as you can go for a walk or a run or a cycle ride but you absolutely should not got to the park with your kids a football / cricket set etc.. for a playday with a picnic.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/03/2020 16:26

It is important to get out if we can. I walked around our residential area for one hour today and encountered a few dog walkers. Everyone moved to let people pass at a distance. I didn’t have contact with anyone except ds.
We can certainly learn from other countries, but even when I was in China we were allowed out unless we were under self isolation or quarantine rules. (Jiangsu resident)

Borkins · 24/03/2020 16:27

Someone on Facebook had a go at someone saying she didn't think folk should be allowed out of their door at all and why can't they exercise at home. Because they will spread breathing out in the air.
Just not factual

Not people in the very vulnerable groups.

TabbyMumz · 24/03/2020 16:32

Yes, people are making up rules of their own. You are allowed more than 2 out at a time if they are from the same household. Our local fb page was going mad, people complaining about a group of lads playing football on a local field. They were 3 brothers, so allowed. People were saying they'd called the police and everything.

TabbyMumz · 24/03/2020 16:33

I've seen posts from people saying, if you have a garden, stay home, so as those without gardens can use the parks!!

Screamqueenz · 24/03/2020 16:37

@tabbymumz that seems reasonable.
we back onto our local reservoir, which was packed out at the weekend. We have some land, so will be using that instead. We live in a fairly deprived neighbourhood, lots of people here don't have gardens.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 24/03/2020 16:40

I agree OP. Way too many people obviously delighted at the chance to become self appointed enforcers. Maybe they never got the chance to be Hall Monitor at school, policing everyone's toilet passes, and feel like nows their chance to finally shine?

Harpingon · 24/03/2020 16:40

They will have to close down the whole parks if people don't stop, it will ruin it for everyone. Just keep it to to a short walk for exercise.

Isolatingalready · 24/03/2020 16:41

Agree with you @Borkins. It’s very difficult staying in completely if you have young children or no outside space of your own. If the government says we’re not allowed to exercise any more I’ll stay in, but until then I will exercise for a few minutes staying away from people.

IScreamForIceCreams · 24/03/2020 16:41

Just wait until parks, beaches and open spaces become no-go areas. Here in NL: 400 euro fine if more than 3 people who are not from 1 family are not keeping 6ft distance. For a business, fine is 4000 euro. So UK...be sensible..and listen to your government.

ClientQueen · 24/03/2020 16:43

Unless you are on the high risk list or have symptoms which is what I think some people are getting confused with. Then the exercise once a day doesn't apply

Falacy · 24/03/2020 16:45

I've seen posts from people saying, if you have a garden, stay home, so as those without gardens can use the parks!!

That sounds kinda common sense to me, tbh.

Maybe not exclusively use your own garden, but it would be nice if people thought of others and acknowledged small luxuries.

exexpat · 24/03/2020 16:46

When NZ announced its lockdown, the PM specifically said to people 'be kind, and leave the enforcement to us' - she (or her advisors) could see there would be a tendency for people to police each other, interpret the rules in their own ways and then enforce what they think they are. I have seen a lot of that going on on here.

TabbyMumz · 24/03/2020 17:06

"Not people in the very vulnerable groups."

I think it's only people in the shielded group that cant go out at all. People in the vulnerable group can go out for exercise.

Hippydoodledoo8 · 24/03/2020 17:18

I’ve just had an argument with someone on Facebook saying “I have 5 dogs that have to be walked separately and no one will be stopping me”. The attitude astounded me.

HopelessLayout · 24/03/2020 17:26

From gov.uk:

"You should only leave the house for one of four reasons:

  1. Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
  1. One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
  1. Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
  1. Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household."

So no, you are not allowed out once a day for "fresh air".

PicsInRed · 24/03/2020 17:27

'be kind, and leave the enforcement to us' - she (or her advisors) could see there would be a tendency for people to police each other

Do bear in mind that "people policing each other" would mean more in NZ than the long glance or hushed silence which could bring an English person to their knees. She was literally trying to minimise mass public disorder. 🤣

Teateaandmoretea · 24/03/2020 17:31

You win the pedantry competition Wink.

Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 17:32

Eh? It clearly states people are...

2. One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.

Walking outside in the fresh air, is covered under the above point...

Apolloanddaphne · 24/03/2020 17:34

Of course you are allowed out once a day for fresh air. That is exercise is it not? A walk and some fresh air? You don't have to be running or cycling to exercise and enjoy the fresh air. My exercise is dog walking. I enjoyed the fresh air mightily.

ViciousJackdaw · 24/03/2020 17:35

So no, you are not allowed out once a day for "fresh air"

Oh for fuck's sake...

Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 17:38

It's like competitive wankery on this site at the moment, it's fucking tedious.
