It's like there is competitive isolation or folk who think they know better than government guidelines.

I dont give a shit what people do, but dont try and argue that the only way you can exercise is by driving somewhere to do it because it's not true.

You honestly believe that I should walk/run along the ridiculously busy road that I live on with supermarkets and doctors surgeries etc, which would mean that I was constantly in contact with people?

The idea that I would get into my car (which is in my garage) and drive to a woodland 5 minutes away where no one goes, is the irresponsible option? Give your head a wobble, FFS.

PertEllaTitsahoy · 24/03/2020 18:08

Nikhedonia, walking down a road is still exercise. As I said, just admit you prefer to go to the woods instead of making excuses.

Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 18:09

So many posters referring to common sense. It's not actually that common though, is it?

Common sense would be avoiding exercising where you know there will be other people close by. That's sensible.

Nettleskeins · 24/03/2020 18:09

If you take two walks even ifvstreets appear deserted, you.arebdepriving someone else of THEIR chance to go for socially distanced fresh air and exercise.

BertieBotts · 24/03/2020 18:09

The UK isn't like those other countries where there is a 400m restriction. Going where there are fewer people is a perfectly sensible thing to do.

Cinammoncake · 24/03/2020 18:10

Agree. I was saying this to DH earlier on. You can tell the people who would have revelled in being the Blockwarten in Nazi Germany

Quite a vile thing to say imo

Surely it depends where people live. Some people seem unaware of how densely packed together some people live, and how packed parks and certain spaces can get. If you're really inner city and everyone went out for a walk or run at midday the parks and pavements would be packed

TheGreatWave · 24/03/2020 18:12

But Nikhedonia what if in that 5 minutes your car gets hit by an asteroid, or when you are running you get attacked by a giant eagle and then all the emergency services will have to come and rescue you?

Wink
Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 18:12

Walking down the road, where there are people? FFS, why don't you admit you don't understand social distancing?

I like going to the woods because it means I avoid being around any other people. I like going to the woods because it's sensible. I like going to the woods because it means I'm not endangering anyone else. I like going to the woods because it's sticking to the guidelines.

Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 18:13

That EXACT scenario goes through my mind every single day TheGreatWave Wink

BecauseReasons · 24/03/2020 18:14

Dogs make it harder to maintain a distance. Someone got much closer than 2m to me today because her dog wouldn't stop jumping at me and she needed to get him off. I'd say dogs should be on a lead unless impeccably trained, which should be the case anyway, but many idiots don't realise that.

TabbyMumz · 24/03/2020 18:15

"If you take two walks even ifvstreets appear deserted, you.arebdepriving someone else of THEIR chance to go for socially distanced fresh air and exercise."

Not if it's a very quiet area and noone is about...depends where you live really.

PertEllaTitsahoy · 24/03/2020 18:15

Well done nikhedenia, we got there in the end. You go to the woods because you prefer to. It is not an essential journey.

SpyApp · 24/03/2020 18:17

Gangs of teenagers in the park ffs!

Nettleskeins · 24/03/2020 18:18

It isnt exercise.and fresh air if it is a dual carriageway, a busy road with no.proper footpath. Of course driving to a quieter safer less polluted spot is going to be common sense if it five mins away. And by doing that you arent going to bump into lots of other pedestrians. However I find streets are much quieter now than popular parks. It is just the numbers that arent in gyms or at work, so be warned that you maybdrive somewhere very local and get a nasty shock

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2020 18:19

*One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.

So no, you are not allowed out once a day for "fresh air".*

Sort of contradicting yourself there 🤔

IgnoranceIsStrength · 24/03/2020 18:20

We live on the edge of the woods..usually see 20/30 people a day with their dogs. Same people - same dogs. Today genuinely nearer 500.. at one point people had started to make a social distancing queue to get through the gate onto the path into the woods. And yes lots had driven. Because of them I now can't walk my dog next to my house as there are too many people around!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2020 18:22

@Vicbarbarkley that's exactly what my closest beach will be like. Apparently they are going to close it soon, so I will be forced to either walk my dog around the local woods or streets where it is very difficult to distance from anyone else walking around because the paths are so small, or stay at home with him.

Nikhedonia · 24/03/2020 18:24

Well done nikhedenia, we got there in the end. You go to the woods because you prefer to. It is not an essential journey.

Confused

We didn't. Your posts make no sense and have a blatant disregard for the safety of others. I'll ignore you now as you're clearly either being obtuse or cannot comprehend the information we are being given.

LuluJakey1 · 24/03/2020 18:24

Here: The PM's words

'People will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes......

  • one form of exercise a day – for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household;'

I do think he should have been tighter with this by saying no more than 2 adults in a family group.

However, I can not see how anyone can misinterpret this to mean:

Take a picnic with you
Sit on the grass in the sun on a rug and enjoy the sun while your children play
Take chairs and spades and buckets and take your small children to the beach to make sandcastles
Go out in a group of 6 adults, 3 vaping as you walk and carrying takeaway coffees (even six adults who live together should not be going out in a large group)
Allow your teenagers to go out in a group of 4 with their friends

I saw all this today when I took DS1 and DD out with their bikes. These people were not out for the purpose of exercising, they were out for a half day outing at the coast.

The pictures of police breaking up a 30 person BBQ, of crowded tubes, of people exercising in organised groups in parks, of Borough market shops open, trading and people shopping there in groups are astonishing.

The rules need to be stricter.

JellyXwellies · 24/03/2020 18:25

People are absolutely fine going in a car to go and excercise somewhere quiet. It has been said on the news. People need to keep their distance but also people need to understand that a walk is fine. We are human beings who need to walk to keep healthy. We need fresh air. We need to understand mental health will be a huge problem if we can't do something. I fully intend on going ten minutes in my partner's car tomorrow to a field nearish where we live. So my children can run around the field before bed. They are already trapped enough and if that brings them abit of normality I will do it. So yes it's unessential travel on paper but for our minds it's very essential.

dementedpixie · 24/03/2020 18:25

(Well done nikhedenia, we got there in the end. You go to the woods because you prefer to. It is not an essential journey*

She prefers to go to the woods because they are quieter than the street she lives in. She is doing a sensible thing by being away from other people

JellyXwellies · 24/03/2020 18:26

Is there something wrong with kids having a quick picnic at a distance in a large grassy area?

TheGreatWave · 24/03/2020 18:27

pert why are you so determined to back that poster into a corner? They are doing one of the 4 permitted things, it is not up to you to police them

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 18:28

no more than 2 adults in a family group

Gosh I’m glad he didn’t say this! Having said that I doubt I’ll get her out anyway! Smile

Lazyllama · 24/03/2020 18:29

"If you take two walks even ifvstreets appear deserted, you.arebdepriving someone else of THEIR chance to go for socially distanced fresh air and exercise."

I went out at 8am and saw about 10 people or couples in the half hour I was out so no one was deprived of their chance.
