I'm relieved. How about you?

OP posts:
Jaxhog · 23/03/2020 21:01

About bloody time.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 23/03/2020 21:01

I went to the bank and the supermarket today. Desperately trying to socially distance. The bank was fine but in the supermarket someone's kid (7? 8?) was running about unchecked. It's necessary but frustrating because if people took personal responsibility more shops would have been able to stay open.

rolza · 23/03/2020 21:02

It's not a full lockdown though, what about construction sites? They will carry on until they are forced to shut, and some sites have 200 workers working in close proximity.

Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 21:02

We can leave our home to help vulnerable relatives/neighbours

Pregnancy scans are necessary so to the OP who mentioned that, I presume you are fine to go ahead unless the private clinic closes

I'm on a key meter for my electricity. Can somebkfu @ me if they know or hear what the drill is with that. Am I right that corner shops will remain open as they are essential?

Relieved.
Although it may not be clear to the thickness out there as he didn’t use the word lockdown.
He’s been vague from the beginning.
Listen to the difference between him and Nicola Sturgeon

Witchend · 23/03/2020 21:03

About time too. Pity he didn't have the guts to do it a week ago. That will cost potentially 1000s of lives.

Abelino · 23/03/2020 21:03

I'm glad. And I'm also glad that someone had the sense to prerecord it so he wouldn't waffle us into confusion.

Flixsfoilball · 23/03/2020 21:04

He didn't actually call it a lockdown though did he? Or did he?

He didn't say the word, but everything he described is absolutely a lockdown

Diversion · 23/03/2020 21:04

3 of us here and all 3 of us are key workers. I would love the option to work from home or be able to stay at home where it is safe. We have two sets of elderly and unwell parents, no idea how they will cope if we get ill and cant go shopping for them.

Unmanned · 23/03/2020 21:04

He didn't mention factories or manufacturing...

My MD will play hardball here Angry

Everyexitisanentrance · 23/03/2020 21:04

People were treating this like an extended bank holiday so something had to happen

Throughabushbackwards · 23/03/2020 21:04

I feel very sad but I think it was an excellent speech.

Reginabambina · 23/03/2020 21:04

@MinkowskisButterfly I had some time sensitive specific plans (perfectly fine under old rules) which will now be interrupted. It’s not the end of the world but just bad timing for me (a couple of days would have made the difference).

RadioRodeo · 23/03/2020 21:05

Really pleased. My 'D'M is fuming she can't potter around garden centers!

Metoyoutoo · 23/03/2020 21:05

Just receive a message from boss saying work is still open as he said Boris said we can go to work. We work in a warehouse supplying florists ffs

LillianGish · 23/03/2020 21:06

Well florists will be closed as they are not essential.

Namechangervaver · 23/03/2020 21:06

I'm not impressed because this is essentially what they've told us to do before and what anyone with half a brain has been doing. Nothing about my life will be different tomorrow from what I've been doing the last 2-3 weeks. The police don't have the manpower to enforce this. What are these fines they'll be issuing? People will still flock to parks and say they're doing their one form of exercise. How do they prove you're with a family member or not? Confused

I guess the house parties will stop though, finally.

waltzingparrot · 23/03/2020 21:06

I suppose the only other step will be roadblocks/army. I'm sure this move will take many, many more people off the streets though.

RunningNinja79 · 23/03/2020 21:06

Relieved.

The amount of posts on facebook I've seen this weekend about people meeting up to go for a run and apparently keeping their distance (and spending 30 secs to take a photo to prove it) had me seething this weekend.

Mintjulia · 23/03/2020 21:07

Relieved we can still go for a run. Completely supportive

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 23/03/2020 21:07

Lockdown is a pretty loaded word, l'm not surprised he didn't use it. But that is what it is.

CouldBeOuting · 23/03/2020 21:07

I’m relieved but scared. I still have to work for now (school open for keyworker children) but DH is working from home and DS obviously not going to college. Worried about DD away at university but it is easier to only have three of us at home.

Got home from work today and looked out of my bedroom window to see the 20 year old two doors away in the garden with half a dozen mates!

Hopefully this will stop them and others like them.

highlandcoo · 23/03/2020 21:08

Relieved. I have been desperate for this to happen. We will all be safer.

But he needs to be clearer about which jobs are classed as essential.

HeartZone · 23/03/2020 21:08

safari
Put the cheques into an envelope addressed to the bank and post it when you are next out shopping. I realise the bank will be closed but it will be dealt with on their return .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/03/2020 21:08

Pleased. I thought it was crystal clear. Only leave your house if it’s for medical or food shopping unless you have to go to work egNHS

No,he mentioned one period of excercise a day, that's where people will take the piss. Kids will be out 'exercising for hours on end Hmm I think it should've been complete lock down.
