I'm relieved. How about you?

Every citizen is instructed to comply with these new measures.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others

NCTDN · 23/03/2020 22:38

I don't want to go to work, but that's because I don't want to receive or spread any germs. I want to protect my family and get the nation through this crisis.
Unfortunately as a key worker I have no choice.

Patchworkpatty · 23/03/2020 22:39

No I'm not impressed. He has missed a trick.

I see no reason to close the little corner shop in a provincial town which employs a single or maybe two people who live upstairs and use no public transport.. whilst businesses/offices in London that still employ over 1k staff on one site, remain open...

In a pandemic hotspot !!! with the majority travelling on public transport...

It's really not good enough. The people 'taking the hit' here are all the poorer workers. Hospitality, restaurants, retail, self employed, zero hours contractors.
Whilst 'business' doing non essential/money making carries on regardless. . Making money , inconvenience kept to a minimum.

As ever - we aren't ALL in it together. ! Those on minimum wage and the 'just getting by' are in it... Everyone else is allowed to carry on with minimal disruption.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 23/03/2020 22:46

“All gatherings of more than two people in public - excluding people you live with - are banned”
So in theory you could go out with everyone in your household, and 2 more who dont live in your household. Is this not just like before? That could be a gathering of 6 or 8 potentially.*

Like a previous poster said “you can’t argue with stupid”

Are corner shops and off licences going to close? I hope not as I rely on our local one for our gas and electric. Neither the Tesco or Sainsburys supermarkets near me do these top ups Confused

Even though I know it's the right thing to do and was expecting it, I'm still massively shocked.

I live alone and can't wrap my head round not seeing my partner or anyone.

No physical contact for 3 weeks is going to be pretty tough. A hug and a handhold massively helps in these difficult times.

HonestlyItsFine · 23/03/2020 23:00

So presumably one of the thick people could have a garden party and nobody could do anything as it's not in public?

ClientQueen · 23/03/2020 23:03

@Ondalay my job is great but I'm in the 12 weeks isolation category and the IT infrastructure isn't proving good enough to work from home

Patchworkpatty · 23/03/2020 23:05

Glad to see their are some complete twassocks about still... just read through the thread.. and saw someone trying to get a rise out of genuinely concerned posters.. not going to name check them as it just feeds pond life this oxygen... but the suggestion that those angry that non essential businesses are closing because they are lazy arses who just want the 80% to sit in their arses... is beyond reprehensible.

Why the hell SHOULD office workers be putting themselves in harms way by commuting into a virus hotspot or other big centres.. for the sole reason to make shareholders/businesses owners money.. .. travelling on packed tubes , putting their health and their families health AND the general populations health at risk every time they travel..

It's actually despicable.

@patchworkpatty

Hear hear !

Gilead · 23/03/2020 23:25

@confusedbeyond if you’re asthmatic are you not in an at risk group?

halcyondays · 23/03/2020 23:27

Corner shops can still open as they sell food.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/03/2020 23:34

I live alone and can't wrap my head round not seeing my partner or anyone.

Wouldn't that count as a meeting of no more than two people, though? Unless you're polyamorous Smile

confusedbeyond · 23/03/2020 23:34

@Gilead
I've not received a text or letter as yet. My inhaler is symbicort but I think the GP classed it as mild asthma my last review.
Dd type 1 diabetic and dh cancer but not received anything either. I don't think we all fall under most vulnerable category, just advising to shield ourselves BUT as I'm not listed in the category as can't work due to 12 week isolation I have to go in.
This means I'll be on a train first thing, then work in a mass gathering basically.
I do want to work and love my job but I'll admit I'm scared of this virus.

DMJ6789 · 23/03/2020 23:42

What I have found in life is that many many peoples overrate just how important their job is. At times like this they are brought right back down to reality.

Dennisreynoldsduster · 23/03/2020 23:43

I don’t think the work travel was foggy at all. He clearly said if you can’t work from home you can travel to and from work. Didn’t say key workers only

YourVagesty · 23/03/2020 23:50

I'm shitting myself basically. No nice way to put it. I'm scared and I don't recognise my life. Work has dropped off a cliff, my brother is ill, I've got a kidney issue. I'm scared for my parents, I'm scared for my friends. It's a nightmare.

I know the announcement is a good thing but every new bit of news is more dramatic than the last and I just want to shut it all out and for everything to be normal.

Gilead · 24/03/2020 00:41

@confusedbeyond, check on both the diabetes uk website and Macmillan, they may have clearer advice there. Having said that, if you’re on symbicort you’re not mild. Do you get the flu injection? If so you’re at risk and should be at home.

Ondalay · 24/03/2020 00:49

Yes - that was clear as crystal. I think people were expecting to be told not to work unless they had essential jobs.

Ondalay · 24/03/2020 00:55

I find it funny how the call for a lockdown became unanimous once the people heard about the 80% salary for having to stay at home cos you couldn't go to work.... Telling really.

Are people really that dopey Helena?

Jourdain11 · 24/03/2020 01:18

The local cafe was soooo still open for sit-in today. I hope they will close today. It annoyed me! They think because they're on a side street nobody will notice, but...

Jourdain11 · 24/03/2020 01:19

Yesterday - today. Today - tomorrow. Sorry, it's that weird time of night!!!

HeIenaDove · 24/03/2020 01:23

Waiting for the Fallout when people on housing estates are told to stay in , have to be pissed about by utility companies over key meters (we will LOAN you 5 pounds electric if you cant top up ) yes ive seen that tweeted OR go without electric (ive seen a case of this already due to self isolation)

while more well off people are still flying in and out of Heathrow unchecked.
