Keeping it positive, keeping our sanity, people 👍

Ok, I don’t know what I read because now I’ve just googled it and it all says they need to be in the sun to germinate and I stuck mine in a cupboard - but they worked!

Arcadia · 01/04/2020 14:23

On positive news front I just spoke to a client who is in the army and he said they are 'ahead of the curve' in preparations and ready to assist the NHS.
I found that encouraging and positive!

Spudlet · 01/04/2020 14:28

@Callybrid I totally get the cognitive dissonance thing! Like, STEP BACK FROM EACH OTHER, TELLY PEOPLE Grin

I went out for a run today - just a little one. It’s the first run away from home I’ve done in a week and it felt really good. I knew I was only doing 3k today so I went for it with the pace as well.

So that’s now 6k done this week! Only another 22k left to go... 😬

Omg! Strange times! I live in a very suburban residential street in SW London. Ds and I just heard a lot of flapping! Look what landed outside my house and went into next doors front garden:

tobee · 01/04/2020 14:56

Move over Venice with your dolphins!! Grin

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 01/04/2020 15:05

That’s wonderful tobee. I know it isn’t intentional, but isn’t it wonderful how the wildlife is entertaining us. Maybe those that never appreciated the importance of looking after our environment for the animals, will have more empathy now. And no, I’m not taking about the extreme environmentalists, just some small changes that we can make, such as bug hotels and butterfly/bee friendly plants.

StCharlotte · 01/04/2020 15:31

Having a bit of a down day. Not helped by DH only starting a new job recently, it being closed down because his two (married) colleagues/rmployers are self-isolating and him only being entitled to SSP. He's so upset and feeling very let down.

But: I'm still on full pay and we have savings so we'll be fine and We're barely spending anything. Just need to get through the next day or so and he'll cheer up Smile

DaffodilThatch · 01/04/2020 15:41

Love the houseplants! Particularly the cheese plant, must look into that. @Alsohuman is that your house? Looks very Danish chic Smile. Also very jealous of your trip to Morrison's, I have a massive soft spot for their jaffa cakes. Was telling DH last night that one of the first things I want to do when this is over is go to Morrison's to get some Blush. I obviously also have a massive chocolate habit too, I blame the breastfeeding for making me ravenous at the moment!

@Callybrid might try to the lemon seed planting with DD. DH has an avocado plant grown from the stone, it always looks half dead but never dies!

Been feeling a bit down too, but cheered up this morning by this parody video of Adele's 'Hello' - it's Hello (from the inside):

@Daffodilpasta good luck with the results!

nellodee · 01/04/2020 16:16

I saw this photo on the Guardian update thread. It made me tear up a bit, but in a good way.

Bunnyflop · 01/04/2020 16:33

@Callybrid do you mean the first photo? If so it is a rhypsalis (mistletoe cactus).

Lovely pic @nellodee I so hope that comes true. It seems to have made societal change in priorities and we can only wish that it stays.

Millie2013 · 01/04/2020 16:45

DD is making cards for the 3 nurses I work with and I’m going to send them with some mini Easter eggs for the men and some handmade jewellery for the lady. They sound so stressed

I braved the supermarket, can’t say it was much fun, but at least I’ve got enough for the next couple of weeks, with top up shops from our little tescos. Most importantly, OH has his precious vimto 😂

Callybrid · 01/04/2020 16:58

Cool, thanks bunny - not heard of that before.

Love the ducks tobee! I was wondering the other day if it was just me noticing more or whether the birds around me are actually getting bolder - a wren landed on the chair in front of my window the other day and stayed there for ages, and yesterday on our daily walk I stood about two metres away from a blue tit happily chirping in a tree and it didn’t seem bothered at all.

Daffodilpasta · 01/04/2020 17:26

Wow @Arcadia there is some really good news in there ; if the estimates are right that each infected person is now infecting 0.62 rather than 2.4 people due to social distancing, that will be a real game changer Smile

M0reGinPlease · 01/04/2020 17:35

Sorry for dragging everyone down this morning. I was lying in bed feeling sorry for myself when I just needed to get up and on with it.

Still want this to be over. Another day closer I suppose.

DD having a disco to 'Black Magic' on repeat. She's happy as larry but I'm glad it's nearly bed time!

Tea time roll call anyone? Salmon fillets, roast pots, peas, carrots and cheese sauce here. Creme eggs for pudding because.... f---k it!

Spudlet · 01/04/2020 17:41

What I love about these threads is that we don’t have to pretend that it’s all fine and we’re fine all the time... so no need to apologise in my book, @M0reGinPlease. We all have wobbles and we are all proppi bag each other up.

Chilli for us tonight, with pork mince from the butchers and a rather vintage tin of tomatoes that’s been lurking at the back of the cupboard for a while - a relic of the original Brexit stash! They looked and smelled fine though and they had a best before rather than a use by date, so chucked ‘em in. DS will be having fishfingers because he is a 4 year old philistine who refuses any food which is not beige, or a banana. Waddaya gonna do 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for the good news roundup. I have been feeling much more positive the last few days as I’ve been completely staying away from the news and mumsnet (other boards to this one obviously!). Then I come on here to see you guys and my eye catches on another post and then it’s all horrible horrible things and I feel like crying and like I can’t cope. It’s suffocating at times x

StCharlotte · 01/04/2020 17:47

Jacket potatoes for us. One half with cheese and lashings of butter and one with tuna mayo.

Had some good news re DH - turns out he can be furloughed from his previous job and they're happy to do it Smile

So the day hasn't been a total write-off.

Have a good evening everyone and keep your peckers up Wink

Roussette · 01/04/2020 18:01

My pecker is sort of up!

I'm decorating the man cave. It is cleared (took months, should've been on hoarders) and in a seriously terrible state. Took me hours to fill the holes and cracks Shock

Might be painting tomorrow but I am stretching it all out.

foxessocks · 01/04/2020 18:13

The dancing in the street on the telegraph link has really made me smile!! How wonderful 👍

I've had times of feeling a bit flat today (see previous PMS comment which isn't helping obviously!) But I did push myself to go out for a walk with dh and the kids and made dinner , and had a think about a good kid friendly film we could all watch tomorrow...all that has made me feel better.

Made spaghetti Bolognese tonight from blitzed up cauliflower - everyone loved it!

Pinkarsedfly · 01/04/2020 18:17

Good old comfort food here. Sausage, mash, green beans, peas, Yorkshire puddings and onion gravy.

And a nice bottle of Rioja.

tobee · 01/04/2020 18:18

Swede and broccoli curry here tonight! Bet your disappointed that lockdown means you can't visit us 4 a few hours later! 😛😁

Asgoodasarest · 01/04/2020 18:38

@GypsyWanderer I never close this thread down. I bookmark the last post I’ve read and then leave it open in my phone. Then I just refresh this page and the new posts appear from where I left off. That way I never have to open the main board as I don’t want to see all the other posts.

GypsyWanderer · 01/04/2020 18:51

@asgoodasarest thank you that’s a good idea. I get too tempted by post titles then end up in a downward spiral on the mainstream news sites Sad I know better!

ILoveGroot · 01/04/2020 19:03

I love this thread, I allow myself a quick look on Twitter, but spend most of my time on this thread. I work for the NHS, not very first line, but clinical and it's hard to switch off at work and not feel worried.

This thread helps, especially the bunny pictures@
