Boosey - I lost my umbrella tree just before it's 30th birthday a couple of years ago, I was quite upset. They are like friends. I bought it when I was a student, it was well travelled.

Spudlet · 01/04/2020 11:03

@BooseysMom That sounds like a horrible dream Sad I’ve been having some really vivid dreams, although not nightmares yet... I think it’s the mind processing things. I hope you have a better night tonight Flowers

@Alsohuman I like it!!

SummerHouse · 01/04/2020 11:15

I last went out on Sunday quick walk to field and back. I literally can't wait to go shopping today!!

I dreamt that a delivery man insisted on coming into my house and demanded a signature. I was torn between my British reservedness and utter terror. Confused

Roussette · 01/04/2020 11:18

Thank you Dogs. Hoping to repeat in a years time, depending on what refunds we get back.

BooseysMum My DD bought swiss cheese plant seeds from Amazon, and they have grown REALLY well. She has many, one of which is about 2-3ft.

Here is my fave houseplant, a cactus from the Wild West!

@DogsAreTheShizz.. Ah thank you! It is really cathartic to just write it down here and an added bonus to receive some support so thanks. Smile i'm 89% introvert according to a test i took so i totally know what you mean!

@ExpletiveDelighted.. oh no, that's sad. It got to a good age though. I can't believe mine is still going. It's def over 20 yrs old! It's been re-potted twice and is only in a small-ish pot but seems ok. How did yours die?

I used to have a yukka tree but it grew so tall it was bending at the top against the ceiling so i gave it away to someone with tall ceilings!

@Spudlet.. thank you Smile. I think it was more of a vivid dream than a nightmare. Hope you get a better night's sleep too

BooseysMom · 01/04/2020 11:41

I dreamt that a delivery man insisted on coming into my house and demanded a signature. I was torn between my British reservedness and utter terror.

That is very funny actually. Although un-funny times obvs!

@Roussette.. that's amazing! My DB is great at growing house plants from seed. He gave me some sensitive mimosas which actually close up their leaves when you touch them. They died as they are only summer plants. But i've still got this mother of thousands he grew from seed ...

Yay some gorgeous houseplants!! Love seeing these. Here are some of mine. I’m a houseplant nut, the houseplant section of the garden centre is my happy place. I would turn the whole house into a greenhouse if I could. We had a five foot high cheeseplant but sadly Henry escaped, ate some of it and had to have emergency vet treatment so I had to put it on freecycle!

@DogsAreTheShizz.. meant to add although i was terrified of going to work, i also look forward to going now just so i can escape the house! I'm in healthcare and there's no option to work from home but my job is like an escapism from the confines of the house...as long as it continues to be safe at work that is Hmm. Good luck to us all

ExpletiveDelighted · 01/04/2020 12:22

Boosey - once a year or so it would drop quite a lot of leaves, but it would always start sprouting new ones straight away. Then a couple of years ago it just dropped the lot and absolutely no sign of life even after a couple of weeks. I was almost in tears putting it in the compost bin.

Callybrid · 01/04/2020 12:27

Just checking in and catching up. Sorry so many people feeling down at the moment but good to hear about friends who’ve got better.

I’ll post a houseplant in a bit - am v excited that I’m finally at the stage where I don’t just kill them a few months after buying them.

I had a person-getting-too-close dream too! Anyone else noticing a whole load of cognitive dissonance watching TV nowadays? I keep wincing every time someone hugs or high fives and wondering how they are all getting out to restaurants and friends houses for a split second before I remember... shows how quickly we adapt to new situations.

Callybrid · 01/04/2020 12:31

Sweetheart plant that is growing really vigorously and two tiny orange or lemon trees we’ve grown from seeds out of supermarket fruit. I kept one going for about 15yrs when I was a kid.

Bunnyflop · 01/04/2020 12:35

@callybrid ooh! What do you do? Just put it in the soil?

RosesandIris · 01/04/2020 12:36

callybird

That’s amazing you grew a lemon and orange tree from pips!! I am going to try that if you can post tips.
I have tried and tried to grow an avocado plant without success.

BooseysMom · 01/04/2020 13:07

@Callybrid.. those look really healthy. Well done!

captainoftheshipwreck · 01/04/2020 13:22

Bunnyflop I think my hair will look like your plant by the end of this. I am so going to the hairdresser's as soon as. Sad

tobee · 01/04/2020 13:24

This is my poinsettia that I bought at Christmas last year (oh for those days of innocence! Grin). It was one of a pair that I killed off pretty fast.

Apparently you're supposed to keep them in absolute darkness for half a day to get the leaves to grow red. I put it in the cupboard under the stairs to try to do this but I kept forgetting. Now I'm just keeping it alive!

It's a definite project I've given myself for this period in time so I hope I don't get too upset if it dies!

I wouldn't be at all bothered about the lockdown, despite difficulties getting food. It's just the reason behind it is so hard to have to continually worry about.

Bunnyflop · 01/04/2020 13:31

@captainoftheshipwreck hahaha! You won’t be the only one. My hair is in a bob so I’m using this time to grow it.

Bunnyflop · 01/04/2020 13:32

I hear you @tobee

Hi all. Anyone have any tips for dealing with PMS while stuck indoors with two (quite whiney today!) children and a (quite grumpy today!) husband 😂🤔

On a positive note we just had lunch in the garden and the sunshine was seriously hot, absolutely lovely!

tobee · 01/04/2020 13:55

I hope we get clement weather in April. Sometimes it can be the coldest part of the year. Sometimes it can be gloriously warm and sunny. 😎

Callybrid · 01/04/2020 14:14

@foxessocks - I think in that situation I just try to hide away whenever I can!

@Bunnyflop - what’s the plant on the left? I love it.

Orange and Lemon seeds - I think I followed a wikihow, I’ll have a look for it, but it’s very easy. Just make sure seeds are dry and no flesh still on them then pop in a pot of compost/soil and put in a warm dark place for a few weeks (I used a cupboard that’s next to a radiator). Keep moist but not over-watered. They can come out into the light once they’ve germinated (although direct sunlight can be bad apparently). Take a while to pop up but so exciting when they do Smile
