Symptoms getting worse - anyone else?

I’ve been dry coughing for a few days now, not really felt like I have a temperature, just decided to ride it out and look after myself. This morning I have started coughing up gunk, my chest is even tighter and I get out of breath really quickly. I don’t want to be a burden on 111, and my own GP is closed. I am still ok to ride it out and look after myself aren’t I? I’m young and healthy usually and I don’t want to take up any resources for those who need it.

I darent even jinx myself but both DD and I are much better today. Last night we dipped badly with our breathing again and i slept terribly having lots of bad dreams about being contaminated. Today I feel so normal when i get a wave of it(shakes fast heart rate etc) in that fleeting moment i think “oh i dont feel well”

So I know i must be feeling much better as the illness isnt now my default setting. Im hoping I can sleep in my own bed tonight as DH has an online poker thing so he says he’ll have the lounge/sofa.

Sending love to anyone else watching this thread worried about symptoms etc xxxFlowers

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 20:23

Another dip, feeling very sick and shaky. Im struggling without a doctor to be able to talk to or review etc. I am by no means recovered and im more frightened that I felt that I was. It puts me in a very dark hole as to is that how i am now?

incognitomum · 04/04/2020 21:07

Aw shit drswife Sad was really hoping you were on the up.

Booboostwo · 04/04/2020 21:08

I am on day 19 and still having some cyclical symptoms. They are a lot milder and very tolerable, but they come round again. First my mouth gets a metallic taste, then my nose feels blocked and then I start coughing again. I think it’s the nature of this viral infection that it keeps coming back TheDrsWife46 for quite a long while. People seem to take 2-4 weeks to fully recover. You will get over this, you are over the worst, you have to try to stay positive, this is the last bit.

Mohster · 04/04/2020 21:17

At present, you need to self-isolate and hopefully, you will be one of the 80% that get over it after some initial discomfort and normal bad virus stuff. You must not take any ibuprofen or nsaids and take only paracetamol as these have led to complications. You need to keep as warm as possibleand if poss take hot baths and let the hot water raise your body temp this will increase monocytes and these are the part of your ain't an immune system that is required to beat this virus. It reduces monocytes to allow it to get a hold. A fever is a good thing but keeping your self warm is the best next thing. viruses cannot replicate as well as in the colder temp and your immune system works better. Stay in bed for a few days up to a week after the fevers have ended to ensure you get rid of it all.

Mohster · 04/04/2020 21:21

Forgot to say - sleep is very important in your bodies fight against viruses studies show that sleep increased the immune response and reduced the length of the infection. Prob why most of us sleep when we feel unwell. I know it can be hard but just try to rest as this will free up resources in your body to fight this horror of a thing that has taken over our lives. God be with you.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 21:21

@Booboostwo thankyou for your kind words. I honestly have exhausted by friends to turn to now as they are sick of hearing that no, I’m not better. No-one else in my circle has been ill and im getting lots of comments that its “anxiety” rather than acknowledging the very unsettling symptoms that frankly mimic anxiety! Shaking, breathlessness, fast heart rate, chest pain, muscle pains/tingling limbs. I am on the “my lungs...” threads where people are sharing their timelines but I think this affected me quite deeply as a person. To have got this ill, in a pandemic, I have felt abandoned my medicine really and so very despondent that I could ever feel well again.

Mohster · 04/04/2020 21:26

Sorry forgot again- visualise the fight that your immune system is having- thnk of your body sending troops to fight infection in your lungs. I know it sounds bizarre but studies have shown that it works and your mind has a lot of powers that are underestimated and not understood. I have tried it before I knew of the studies when I was a teen when I had a rare condition that wasn't looking good and I beat the expectations. It is what later in life my researching it and finding evidence of randomised studies that showed this worked. Everything counts and you have nothing to lose no matter how sceptical you are.

Booboostwo · 04/04/2020 21:30

I know what you mean. It is very scary to feel so fragile and vulnerable and it is only made worse by knowing that there is less of a safety net because health services are full. But it will pass and it will get better. It feels so desperate because you are in the middle of it and it must be particularly difficult to get better only to get worse again. My Ex-h is having very similar symptoms to you, extreme tiredness, chills, fast heart beat but very little coughing. This virus seems to provoke a large number of different symptoms in people.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 21:41

@Mohster thankyou for taking the time to post such motivational advice. I know that you are right that I should visualise etc whilst I feel so low. Thankyou also for wishing God to be with me, I know that must have felt like a brave step on an open forum where you cant gauge the reaction. But I dont mind admitting that Ive prayed significantly through this. Xx

@booboostwo i havent had a cough really. The odd day around 6/7 that I coughed but by dd has been constant.

bumblingbovine49 · 04/04/2020 21:54

That unless you are gasping and you cannot talk there is nothing they can

Surely a respirator would help a bit . Not a ventilator but a face mask of oxygen. I think this country is barbaric . In China and in Italy they take people into hospital with moderate symptoms.. They may not keep you long but they test you and give oxygen for a while and also administer trial drugs or antibiotics etc. This means that people are not being tested until they are practivally death's door.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 22:25

@bumblingbovine49
I think you’ve hit it in the head for everyone on the “my lungs thread” and Moo and I over here. Ive scoured experience stories on youtube and had to be so careful because i CANNOT see or hear any bad news stories whilst I feel this poorly. But here, unless you are physically dying we have all felt abandoned. Other countries or even counties, people report being given oxygen etc and monitoring. An old school friend contacted me after she heard I was ill, and is a nurse in a London hospital. When I explained what moo and I had experienced she advised that she has been dealing with patients like us, that where I begged for valium she would have given it to me as I’d have been in hospital under observation, and that i’d have had a drip etc for fluid and nutrition.

Im going to come away from this experience quite “damaged” I think, purely from the lack of advice, support or structure that there is for people expected to manage at home. Whilst theres no cure for Covid 19, could we have been managed with anti emetics? Relaxants? Steroids? I’ll never know.

I cant speak for Moo because she called lots of times but me personally Ive phoned for support and reassurance 4 times alone. London mnetters are reporting “Covid surgeries” where they have been seen for obs/chest listened for reassurances.

SugarSugarShimmy · 04/04/2020 22:40

@bumblingbovine49 @thedrswife45 China you HAVE to go to hospital if you have a a temperature. Even before Corona. It’s a form of control

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 22:47

I had similar symptoms and they took a good 14 days to start clearing. Luckily it was before they thought cv was spreading in the UK so I didn't think I had cv, which meant although the breathlessness was unpleasant, I didn't panic. Rest rest rest, lay on your front and try and stay calm. I hope you feel better soon. I felt very low for another 2 weeks and completely lost sense of smell and taste.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 23:22

@Tonyaster would you persue an antigen/antibody test to see if thats what it was?

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 23:23

I'd love to! I don't want to have a vaccine if i don't need one.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 23:32

See I think after feeling this ill I’d want a vaccine on TOP of immunity, and a flu jab, and a chickenpox booster, and any other vaccines I could blag and never ever leave the house again just to be doubly sure.

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 23:35

I felt ill, but I wasn't in pain. I was exhausted and achy, but no sore throat. The breathlessness was a bit scary. I felt more ill and desperate when I had a tooth abscess.

But it was a very ODD illness, I felt peculiar throughout. Absolutely sure it was cv.

TheDrsWife46 · 04/04/2020 23:44

I havent had the cough but the chest pain, breathlessness has been scary but ive had pulmonary embolism before so that part has felt familiar and less scary.

I cant handle the constant shakes/tremors in my limbs/prickly hot feelings that wave over my skin, bouts of diarrhoea, nausea....I feel like I have absolutely no control over my body and those sensations are consuming. The breathlessness and chest pain are largely unchanging so I can rationalise through those. This is def the most ill I’ve felt in my life. Including having had bilateral embolisms!
