Symptoms getting worse - anyone else?

I’ve been dry coughing for a few days now, not really felt like I have a temperature, just decided to ride it out and look after myself. This morning I have started coughing up gunk, my chest is even tighter and I get out of breath really quickly. I don’t want to be a burden on 111, and my own GP is closed. I am still ok to ride it out and look after myself aren’t I? I’m young and healthy usually and I don’t want to take up any resources for those who need it.

Thinking of you both it sounds absolutely terrifying what you have been through wishing you both a speedy recovery

After another 24 hours of getting worse and heart rate rocketing to 130 if I even move, my poor husband has spent the entire day on the phone to my local nurse, then local Gp who referred us back to 111, who asked a specialist to call, who then asked a COVID specialist doctor to call... finally spoke to the specialist this evening who was amazing. She said it sounds like I have developed a secondary infection and said antibiotics are needed, sent them straight over for my husband to pick up, and was just so reassuring and kind. She was really happy we had monitoring equipment at home and praised my husband for fighting so hard for me. Antibiotics start as soon as he is home with them, I also have extra strength codeine to give me a chance of sleep.
I’m feeling a tiny glimmer of hope.

Hope, the antibiotics kick in soon. Do you know what they’ve prescribed and what dose?

MooPointCowsOpinion · 07/04/2020 22:58

Amoxicillin I believe, 7 days worth

Thank goodness moo.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 08/04/2020 05:35

God it’s like a magic wand, seriously, I haven’t been able to lay down at all in over a week because it hurt too much. I am laying down now! I even slept a bit laying down.

What a relief Moo. Well done for insisting you get medical help.

Alfiemoon1 · 08/04/2020 08:36

Glad you are starting to feel better moo wishing you a speedy recovery

Sosadandempty · 08/04/2020 09:07

I am so glad as well @MooPointCowsOpinion. Please keep us updated if you can? It scares me that it took so much effort to get what you need, and there must be lots of people in your situation who maybe aren’t able to insist or who don’t have someone who can insist for them Sad.

How are you @TheDrsWife46?

TheDrsWife46 · 08/04/2020 09:23

I had a bad night of breathlessness and pins and needles in my legs and neck which makes it hard for me to stand up or sit upright in a chair.

Dd1 is worse with her cough, its waking her through the night and then from about 4am onwards shes on day 18. Inspired by @MooPointCowsOpinion Ive called the GP as i dont really know how best to help DD and she is struggling more than me as my symptoms are unpleasant but shes struggling. Shes coughing up yellow/green lumpy phlegm now so maybe she needs antibiotics.

God knows. But I going to push ahead to talk to a doctor now that Im nice and calm because before they just kept telling me to calm down when you explain that your heart rate goes up, shallow breathing, tingly limps, tight chest...they say oh thats anxiety. When you know that it comes from no-where and is absolutely a part of the symptoms. It puts you off phoning for help.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/04/2020 09:40

Gosh Moo. What a time you have had. Hope they pick you up. So maybe not covid then if ABs working or is a bacterial infection following covid?

DrWife - I feel for you. What a time. Maybe she needs some ABs too?

incognitomum · 08/04/2020 10:58

Glad you're having a better time moo.

Yes drswife sounds like antibiotics are needed there now too. Best wishes.

justasking111 · 08/04/2020 13:37

I cannot see why getting antibiotics is such a convoluted thing. What harm would it do to give them in these cases. With normal flu bacterial complications are common place.

TheDrsWife46 · 08/04/2020 18:59

Just to update for those who have been so so lovely to me on here. GP phone call. He advised that when we’ve had significant symptoms from the virus then they would consider the recovery to be a 4-6 week process akin to a bad flu or glandular fever. He said that my residual symptoms like pins and needles and weakness in my legs, diarrhoea and chest pains are all expected. For DD1 he asked that I start her allergy steroids and antihistamines now as well as her inhaler to just give her a bit more help. Luckily because I had the oximeter, peak flow and thermometer I was able to give him a clear picture of how she is managing it all.

Ive had a good day today just resting in the sunshine in the garden, really hoping I dont dip again last night where I was so breathless and had diarrhoea that I couldnt focus on tv even. Truly hoping that this is it now and i can have a really settled night. Hope your managing now you have your antibiotics @MooPointCowsOpinion xx

incognitomum · 08/04/2020 19:47

I hope you have a good night's sleep drswife.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 08/04/2020 22:17

Hey @TheDrsWife46 good to hear you had some positives today. I managed nearly 6 hours of being up and awake and moving about a bit today. So so happy! I was in the garden too, watched my kids play and watered some plants. Felt amazing. I’m excited to wake up tomorrow and be able to do a little more!

Hooray @moopointcowsopinion glad you’re on the mend!

ScarlettDarling · 08/04/2020 22:53

@MooPointCowsOpinion What a time you've had, you must be worn out. Before Christmas I had pneumonia and felt so much better just 24 hours into the antibiotics. Near the end of my course of amoxicillin though I was still very breathless and coughing up blood so I needed a further course of doxycycline which cleared everything up. So if you're still having worrying symptoms near the end of the course I'd be asking if you need a second course. It certainly sounds as if you've got pneumonia or a very nasty chest infection but hopefully you're on the mend at last.

unicornsandrainbows11 · 10/04/2020 18:24

Drswife and moo how you feeling today guys? I keep checking in to see if use are any better! X

TheDrsWife46 · 10/04/2020 19:18

@unicornsandrainbows11 thankyou so much for thinking of me. Ive had no unpleasant sensations in my body for 24 hours. I slept terribly last night and Im avoiding all news to just focus on feeling well without anxiety. I do have a cough now but im on day 18 (i think) so surely it cant turn on me now.
