Symptoms getting worse - anyone else?

I’ve been dry coughing for a few days now, not really felt like I have a temperature, just decided to ride it out and look after myself. This morning I have started coughing up gunk, my chest is even tighter and I get out of breath really quickly. I don’t want to be a burden on 111, and my own GP is closed. I am still ok to ride it out and look after myself aren’t I? I’m young and healthy usually and I don’t want to take up any resources for those who need it.

Oh dear. Must be hard with a little one around. Take it easy on yourself. I’ve got aching back again this evening. Oh it’s awful. Will have a bath. Only coughed up a little yellow stuff earlier. I could breathe properly again this morning after day 3 of steroid course.

EarringsandLipstick · 26/03/2020 20:41

Moo you need to seek medical advice at this point. You're quite unwell & the breathing difficulties are the main symptom the health services want to address.

Hope you'll feel better soon. 💐

TheReelSlimShady · 26/03/2020 20:42

Interesting thread. I've been self isolating and the week has passed, but I have a similar feeling of tight chest and it feels harder than normal to breathe.

It's not painful, and it's not stopping me doing anything but it is noticeable. My cough isn't as bad but it hasn't gone either.

Going to keep an eye on it, and this thread, really helpful!

FredaFrogspawn · 26/03/2020 20:44

You poor thing. Do you have another adult with you?

Booboostwo · 26/03/2020 20:52

I was similar to you on day 6. That night I had further breathing difficulties, I couldn’t lie down, not even in a sitting position, without feeling a weight on my chest and I also had chest spasms. I saw my GP the next day (not in the UK) and he was very reassuring. Day 9 now and I am better but I am still coughing a lot and can still get out of breath, but odd,y enough the symptoms are cyclical.

Hope you feel better soon!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 26/03/2020 22:02

I have my husband with me too. Booboostwo that’s helpful thank you, I just need it to calm down a bit, when I cough it’s like I can’t stop coughing out long enough to get air in, and it’s making me very anxious. The news isn’t helping, so many stories now of young, fit and healthy people dying! I’m 33 and have a really minor heart condition but I know I’d probably be classed as having a ‘pre-existing condition’ if this virus took me.

Keep us updated. Hope you turn a corner soon.

EarringsandLipstick · 26/03/2020 23:10

@MooPointCowsOpinion

For goodness sake. You have a pre-existing illness. Stop looking to MN and seek medical advice. You are struggling to breathe.

That's what they are there for!

Runbikeswim · 26/03/2020 23:57

I think you should get medical advice

TheOwlandThe · 27/03/2020 01:12

I'm in a similar situ to you

Dry cough, getting breathless, dull ache in my upper back and chest. Same as you when I cough, I'm out of breath. I'm worried if I cough anymore I really won't be able to breath

It's hard because I am worrying about what point to seek medical help. I am not as bad as you, can walk up the stairs so don't need it yet. But it's hard to know whether anxiety and panic is contributing.

Things your supposed to look out for are signs your body is really not getting enough oxygen, and an inability to complete sentences. It sounds like actually you are quite breathless, feeling dizzy is a sign your body isnt getting enough oxygen and you can't complete a full sentence.

I think you should get medical help. Remember the whole point of staying home etc. Is to enable the nhs to treat people who need it. They will be dealing with lots of symptomatic patients, you aren't adding any risk. They aren't going to keep you in etc. Unless they deem in medically necessary. But it's with that level of breathlessness you aren't wasting their time

TheOwlandThe · 27/03/2020 01:13

@Booboostwo my symptoms are cyclical too. I keep thinking I'm getting better then no

Chewbecca · 27/03/2020 10:08

It would be worthwhile calling your GP surgery. My GP advises there is evidence antibiotics may help certain situations, they may be able to help and prevent it getting any worse.

Oceans12isCrap · 27/03/2020 10:10

If you are coughing up gunk then you may have a chest infection rather than CV, which is characterised by a dry and unproductive cough?

You may need antibiotics.

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 28/03/2020 12:47

Apparently CV can cause a bacterial infection which may need anti biotics.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 28/03/2020 20:17

I’ve got something that feels like water just seemingly pouring up into my throat, I have to keep coughing constantly to clear it, and not getting any better so I’m calling 111 now. I guess I’m going to be on hold for some time?

OP posts:
BabyLlamaZen · 28/03/2020 20:21

Call 999 if you can't get through. NO ONE will think badly of you, I promise. That sounds like pneumonia and your family will thank you for going in as soon as you can.

Coughisoff · 28/03/2020 20:31

I hope you’re ok x

joystir59 · 28/03/2020 20:31

999 now. You are not wasting anyone's time

Mumtoaperfectbabyboy · 28/03/2020 20:46

Coronavirus can cause a bacterial infection and if you now have a productive cough this is likely you will need antibiotics. 111 online have previously told you to ring 999 so just do that especially if your symptoms have worsened since then.

inthemoment1990 · 28/03/2020 20:59

Are you ok OP?

Olawisk · 28/03/2020 21:06

Hope your ok

notapizzaeater · 28/03/2020 21:07

Hope you've had some professional advice and are getting sorted

incognitomum · 28/03/2020 21:09

Have you got through? I think I'd be ringing 999.

oohnicevase · 28/03/2020 21:13

Hope you get some advice / help

ShastaBeast · 28/03/2020 21:16

I hope you get through and can get checked out. It’s scary because we’d normally see a doctor for a cough with breathlessness and tight chest. Just don’t hold off from asking for help too long people!

I’m thankful I have a pulse oximeter and really recommend it.
