I’ve been dry coughing for a few days now, not really felt like I have a temperature, just decided to ride it out and look after myself. This morning I have started coughing up gunk, my chest is even tighter and I get out of breath really quickly. I don’t want to be a burden on 111, and my own GP is closed. I am still ok to ride it out and look after myself aren’t I? I’m young and healthy usually and I don’t want to take up any resources for those who need it.

Thankyou for sharing with me. Im only at day 9 of active symptoms. It feels like such a mile away to even hit 14 days let alone 17. Thank you so much for supporting me. Xx

MooPointCowsOpinion · 31/03/2020 15:32

Good lord I just went for a small walk around the garden, which triggered a coughing fit I thought would actually end me. Still no walking allowed!

@TheDrsWife46 it’s going to be ok Smile

So glad you’re feeling a bit better @MooPointCowsOpinion and hope you soon do @TheDrsWife46 💖.

We are looking at a month for some people I suspect before they are up and about again. I do wonder how much longer it is before you are no longer infectious and back to better health. The articles in the media e.g. Prince Charles bouncing back within days are not helpful if employers expect you back too soon.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 31/03/2020 20:56

My employer has been in touch so many times to check on me and reassure me, every manager going has checked in.
I just had the weirdest sleep, I could even feel my husband trying to wake me up but I couldn’t wake up! Hoping as I slept so deeply it might have helped. My voice is almost completely gone and if I do talk it sets off a coughing fit, so I’m using my limited knowledge of sign language (thanks Mr Tumble) to communicate.
@TheDrsWife46 how is your stomach ache? I have moments of actually wanting to eat followed by god awful sickness/cramps which make me never want to eat again!

@TheDrsWife46

Best wishes to you both, hope you start to feel better soon Thanks

TheDrsWife46 · 31/03/2020 23:45

Im ashamed to say @MooPointCowsOpinion that I phoned the samaritans today. I just could not cope with the sheer exhaustion of feeling poorly for yet another day without medical assistance. Calling a counsellor was as close as I could get. It has put me into a very dark space where laying feeling so so poorly, isolated from my family, I felt that this was akin to being dead.

I am praying that tomorrow I may get some respite but I think i need a GP to perhaps consider antibiotics or something even as a placebo to guard against secondary infection because I cannot address the anxiety with medication whilst my breathing is compromised.

Wishing you a positive day tomorrow x

MooPointCowsOpinion · 01/04/2020 02:36

@TheDrsWife46 don’t be ashamed! The paramedics said to me that it’s recommended those struggling along at home ask their GP for something to help with the anxiety of it all. They’ve been to people who really believe they are dying with this, putting themselves in the recovery position and holding onto memorial photos of late parents. This is just a taste of longer term illness and a feeling of being out of control, but it is awful and the impact on mental health can not be underestimated.

I’m sitting up watching Netflix with a hot drink. The coughing was getting too much while laying down so I figured why not sit up and just relax a bit. There’s always time to sleep another day!

You probably feel quite alone Moo especially at this time of night but we are all willing you to get better, hope you sleep better tomorrow x

Inkpaperstars · 01/04/2020 06:42

Oh @TheDrsWife46 you poor thing. I am not surprised your mind is going to dark places. Gentle unmumsnetty hugs to you ...no infection risk with virtual hugs. I am so sorry for both of you that you've had to struggle like this at home without the reassurance and care of a medical setting. I think you've both been really brave.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 01/04/2020 07:24

I do too. I hope you feel less anxious and alone today @TheDrsWife46, and that you are able to get in touch with your GP this morning. Lots of love to you.

Merryweather80 · 01/04/2020 07:35

Wishing you both a speedy recovery. You both sound so poorly. It's very frightening when you can't breathe. I've had pneumonia and pleurisy several times and have brittle asthma. It's awful fighting for every breath. Stay sat up if you can near a window. No moving except for the loo and drink as much as you can.
Good luck both of you. Thanks

Mawbags · 01/04/2020 07:41

This is such a traumatic situation for you both. Hope you get through this quickly x

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 02/04/2020 06:07

How are you both @MooPointCowsOpinion and @TheDrsWife46?

MooPointCowsOpinion · 02/04/2020 09:35

I’m feeling slightly brighter every day. I can stand without my heart racing or going dizzy now. Sleep is a big issue, it’s just too hard to sleep while coughing this much so I’ve given it up, I don’t want to pressure myself into sleeping when it’s just going to stress me out.

incognitomum · 02/04/2020 09:59

You must be exhausted Moo. I hope you sleep today.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/04/2020 10:01

Get that anaesthetic throat spray. I always get ticket coughs and this helps calm them. As does any lozenge and pholcodeine linctus.

TheDrsWife46 · 02/04/2020 10:29

My 11yr dd started last night. Although shes had a cough for two weeks she started crying last night that she couldnt stop shaking, that her legs keep shakinb and that she couldnt get air right into her lungs. She eventually went off at about 2.30am. I am weaker than weak. I cannot get off the sofa today but touch wood I have no pain or shaking.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 03/04/2020 08:40

I am so glad you are both feeling a little better. Are you feeling a little less weak today @TheDrsWife46? How is your daughter?

TheDrsWife46 · 03/04/2020 10:37

Morning. Dd managed some sleep last night but says “only one side of my lungs gets air” ive told her thats just how it feels. But then my breathing was bad again last night. Really really shallow and you cant catch a full breath, made it difficult to settle. We’ve both just woken up now and already she has the tingly/crampy/pains in her legs.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 03/04/2020 15:36

Hope you’re both feeling okay this afternoon 💖. And you @MooPointCowsOpinion 💕.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 03/04/2020 16:42

I’m doing ok, husband now has it quite bad and is in bed so I’m dressed and bathing kids and managing the dog as best I can. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this just a couple of days ago, so I’m definitely improving. Still can’t handle stairs, I need to be still most of the time but I can be sitting, not laying, and awake for more than 2 hours.
Honestly I will never take my health for granted again, I’m so so so grateful I can move today.
@TheDrsWife46 stay strong, but call for help with your daughter if need be, she could have it differently to you.

Oh @MooPointCowsOpinion

Im gutted that your DH is now bad, im so frightened of mine and my little dd dropping with it. Whilst im getting better each day, its easier to shelve the bigger worries if it is out of our home. Do please keep me updated. Thinking if you often.
