Piss off out the countryside

Aibu to think the idiots who have all fled from towns to the countryside are incredibly selfish.
I live in a small rural estate.
There are quite obviously people from towns and cities coming together on gatherings suddenly 'embracing' the countryside.
Ok fine; but they apparently can't stick to the public footpaths where they can all infect each other. Instead they keep coming off the footpath and walking the mile to our estate from it and hanging about.
The average age on our estate is 70+. I don't know anyone else that is under 70 and many are 90+ I haven't seen anyone leave their houses for a long time but today I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate and he was leaning on a bench when a load of teenagers came right up to the boundary of the road to our estate and I saw the man try to get away but he couldn't fast enough and nearly fell over from trying.

We live in isolation anyway generally. This is the first time we've had to deal with so many people coming through our field off the public footpath.
I wish they'd stay away. I also wish less risk people would understand what social distancing means. If they're venturing into our estate I've no doubt they're off gallivanting on to further farms etc. Which can only heighten the problems we face today. These dc are not from the rural area. I've never seen so many cars parked near the footpath. It's so daft it's upsetting.

Boris has warned we will have to go to lockdown. Is this really what people want?
Get out of the countryside if you don't live here. It's obvious so many elderly people live here. Come back in better times.

People never cease to amaze me at their me me me attitude.

Enough4me · 22/03/2020 14:16

God people are so entitled!

Entitled to feel comfortable where they live without being swamped by holiday makers.

It's ok though as the royal family are leaving London for their holidays. Setting a great example.

lowlandLucky · 22/03/2020 14:16

you have Coronavirus, that might just keep them away

SisterSist3r · 22/03/2020 14:18

I’m happy to share our green spaces. I don’t want vulnerable families under even more pressure. Our fav walk was busy today, plenty of space, not a problem.

dogseggs · 22/03/2020 14:18

I live in a town centre near some supermarkets. The streets and car parks round here have been rammed with people from rural areas coming to do their panic buying and strip the shelves. Many of them in big cars, no doubt with lots of room at home for storage. Many are idiots and have no respect for social distancing. Should they piss off out of our towns? While these hordes continue to descend I will continue my country walks. I am careful to keep my distance, go to quiet areas and not to touch gates/stiles with bare hands.

Popsandevie · 22/03/2020 14:19

Judging from what I can see on social media people are taking matters in their own hands with respect to people that have flocked to the countryside.

SisterSist3r · 22/03/2020 14:21

Exactly dogs we all need to share. I can’t believe that on a beautiful day like today people really want to keep the countryside for themselves and say those without green space should stay indoors. That’s a really horrible attitude.

Applejaxx · 22/03/2020 14:21

People in North Wales are getting really cross about this on social media. I can see it getting quite ugly as locals in tourist areas are rightfully fuming about it. There has already been one incident where some idiot from Bury said he paid his taxes and he could use his caravan Abergele as often as he like. He’s had to delete his FB account as he received so much abuse, I really think someone would attack him if they saw him.

Newsflash, if you live in the North West and are thinking of coming here then don’t because we don’t want you here!

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 14:22

@Popsandevie I haven't seen anything. Do share, please.

Also. Not surprised. Not surprised.

It feels like most of general population here just absolutely ignores what's happening beyond uk borders. Otherwise they would get it into their heads that this is serious

SnoozyLou · 22/03/2020 14:22

Should they piss off out of our towns?

Yes. Everyone should piss off home for as much time as possible.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 14:23

Y'all are sharing more than countryside. Cough cough...

TheMemoryLingers · 22/03/2020 14:23

you're happy for people in built up urban areas to suffer the most

I'm in a built up urban area and I fully echo the 'stay out of the countryside unless you live there' sentiment.

The countryside will still be there for us townies to enjoy when all this is over. But if we don't do what we can to avoid spreading the virus, we may no longer be here to enjoy anything.

daisychain01 · 22/03/2020 14:24

@orangeandbananas I can imagine you feel invaded by people who normally wouldn't have any interest being on your estate and you're concerned about the elderly demographic who are at significant risk.

Separate fact from fictions, they will only be a risk if they do stupid things like walk up to people's front door, knock and demand people open the door i.e playing silly buggers for a bit of entertainment. Then social distancing will be broken. But if you don't rise to the bait and don't respond if they do knock, you are safe. If you fear the safety of other residents put a note thru their door to say not to respond to strangers if they try to knock,

If nobody gets anywhere near you or the other residents then you are at minimal risk of exposure to the virus.

We're bracing ourselves for an influx of people wandering around our village aimlessly because of the current increase in restrictions. We're in quite a touristy and popular village. I just won't look out of the window too much, as it will only make my anxiety go through the roof. Protect your mental health, this could go on a long time, so go with the 'ignorance is bliss' approach for now - , you can't control these people apart from ensuring they don't trespass on your property.

orangeandbananas · 22/03/2020 14:24

For those saying I want the countryside to myself you will not find me wandering through the public footpaths either.

We live at the end of a remote rural lane.

Steady stream of people been coming up & down all weekend.

For the first time in the 15 years we've lived here, a CF has parked on the verge we own next to our garden.

I don't want to stop people taking fresh air & exercise, but please show consideration for those of us who live here.

SisterSist3r · 22/03/2020 14:27

Have they said don’t use public footpaths or go out for a walk?

Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 14:27

applejax things really are going to get ugly soon I think. What most people that are saying it's fine don't understand is that in many of these places, people are travelling for hours to get there. Travelling 10 mins out of your town for a walk is totally different. If you haven't been to north wales the nearest large city is chester (if you discount bangor which most people would)... which is an hour away from me. The whole area is pretty rural. A few larger towns but on the whole rural. This influx of people is a massive deal for the local resources. This is not a holiday ffs. There are 3 hospitals in north wales, non of which are large. And in many cases over 45 mins away for most people in tourist spots.

Applejaxx · 22/03/2020 14:27

If you want to go for a walk go for a walk around the block where you live.

SnoozyLou · 22/03/2020 14:28

@orangeandbananas exactly. Everyone I know is staying in so far as possible. I don't know whether tourists think the sea air will protect them. We don't even use local shops anymore. There have been too many cases in my local area.

NeckPainChairSearch · 22/03/2020 14:29

You are not welcome in our wee rural town. They are closing the local cottage hospital and we are far from the main hospital

This is NOT a thread about second homes.

People having a walk in the countryside for a bit of fresh air tend not to end up needing hospital care immediately afterwards.

BackyardChickens · 22/03/2020 14:29

We live deep in the rural countryside. Our tiny village is rammed today. People are not listening.

Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 14:31

If you go for a walk in a tourist destination and you have the virus, you are risking peoples lives. You may not know you have the virus. You are putting local lives at risk because you want to go to the countryside all of a sudden. It's that simple. Look up images from north wales yesterday or from beaches on the south coast and tell me people doing this are social distancing...

dogseggs · 22/03/2020 14:32

Yes of course people should piss of out of towns if they're being idiots and panic buying/going for coffee with their friends. Same as if they're being twats in the countryside.

Applejaxx · 22/03/2020 14:32

Indeed Ginny we only have three pretty shit hospitals that struggle to cope at the best of times! All three have been featured in the national news over the last few years due to various failings. Yet every Tom, Dick and Harry from the North West wants to come here and have a jolly during a global pandemic the kind of which we’ve not seen in over a century!

orangeandbananas · 22/03/2020 14:33

@SisterSist3r they shouldn't have to. The amount of cars the local lane looks like a car park. Only the daft could think it's possible to social distance amongst these crowds!
