Piss off out the countryside

Aibu to think the idiots who have all fled from towns to the countryside are incredibly selfish.
I live in a small rural estate.
There are quite obviously people from towns and cities coming together on gatherings suddenly 'embracing' the countryside.
Ok fine; but they apparently can't stick to the public footpaths where they can all infect each other. Instead they keep coming off the footpath and walking the mile to our estate from it and hanging about.
The average age on our estate is 70+. I don't know anyone else that is under 70 and many are 90+ I haven't seen anyone leave their houses for a long time but today I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate and he was leaning on a bench when a load of teenagers came right up to the boundary of the road to our estate and I saw the man try to get away but he couldn't fast enough and nearly fell over from trying.

We live in isolation anyway generally. This is the first time we've had to deal with so many people coming through our field off the public footpath.
I wish they'd stay away. I also wish less risk people would understand what social distancing means. If they're venturing into our estate I've no doubt they're off gallivanting on to further farms etc. Which can only heighten the problems we face today. These dc are not from the rural area. I've never seen so many cars parked near the footpath. It's so daft it's upsetting.

Boris has warned we will have to go to lockdown. Is this really what people want?
Get out of the countryside if you don't live here. It's obvious so many elderly people live here. Come back in better times.

I've been getting out for dog walk earlier and earlier to avoid the crowds, unfortunately everyone else seems to be doing the same.

I'm sorry but driving to go for a walk isnt essential travel.

It's not really travel at all, is it? How on earth does driving to an area of open space and going for a walk while keeping your distance from people impact on anybody? The car journey bit totally irrelevant.

I live on the edge of the Lake District and no of course people shouldn't be coming to stay here from other parts of the country - we don't have the hospitals etc to deal with an influx. But the Lake District has huuuge amounts of empty, open space if you avoid the hotspots like Ambleside. Plenty of space for loads of people from the surrounding area to come and walk while rarely getting within 100m of each other, never mind 2!

tryingtoprep · 22/03/2020 15:06

@Applejaxx likewise city dwellers especially Londoners - who've been priced out of renting as well as buying. They too have families, parents, grandparents they wish to stay near. Where's the "You're not welcome here" from them? They suffer as much if not more yet mostly remain tolerant and welcoming.

derxa · 22/03/2020 15:07

The evil shits are probably allowing their dogs off the leads in field where shop are lambing as well. Our lambs are out right now. Any dog walkers will get the rough edge of my tongue.

Enough4me · 22/03/2020 15:09

Royal Cornwall hospital are full. It's safer not to travel to this area.

tryingtoprep · 22/03/2020 15:10

lazylinguist that's my point. Unfortunately many on these You're not welcome here" threads are using Covid as an excuse for their deep-seated dislike of "Outsiders". Thinly veiled insularity.

Thank you @LakieLady Grin

I almost wrote it all in my mither tongue but decided to pretty it up a bit.

I will save a roll of toilet paper just for you and will write a Scottish word on every sheet so you can practise as you wipe x Grin

This is why Italy is in the state it is. People are fleeing to their holiday hoes, countryside areas and tourist spots. People, including posters here, are going out as an entire family on long walks or just popping out to run errands for other people. People are still queuing densely for shopping instead of keeping space and restrictions on how many people should be in a shop at one time.

This is what happened in Italy and that is where we will be in 2 weeks.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 22/03/2020 15:12

Yeah all the parks are closing where l am. It's disappointing and l wish people would stay where they are, but having grown up in central London l don't blame them for trying to escape.

RedRec · 22/03/2020 15:12

@Xenia
"In fact just like WWII rationing made people the fittest they have ever been, lots of long walks and not enough food might in this crisis have the same effect. It could be silver lining in the nasty cloud."

... Isn't this the genius that suggested children should be bussed from England to Scotland to take their GCSEs?
Or troll, I can't decide.

Cheesypotato · 22/03/2020 15:13

Ian blackford has put out a statement on this problem in Highlands and Islands that he's going to ask the gov to do something about it and the ferries are only going to be restricted with who they carry. 👏

I agree they're are idiots.

But people from the towns and cities could say the same to people trevelling in from the countryside I suppose.

Everyone who can needs to stay in, urban and rural

ErrolTheDragon · 22/03/2020 15:14

First item on the news at 3pm basically telling people (too late) not to go to beaches and beauty spots.

Driving to somewhere remote for your walk may be ok so long as too many other people don't have the same idea - and so long as your car is reliable.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 15:14

You are absolutely right @SuperlativeScrubs
We are actually exactly where Italy was on 7th of March

Zombiemum1946 · 22/03/2020 15:15

The military are already having to evacuate locals to hospital. Ferries now limited to locals only. Does that not give people the serious hint that we do not have the services to support extra pressure. Put yourselves in our shoes our cardiac/high dependence/major surgery units all converted. We're used to people going out on the hills ill equipped, having falls, suddenly taking ill, but we can't support that as well as the virus and the permanent population chronic health conditions. We simply cannot cope.

LakieLady · 22/03/2020 15:16

Funny how I've never seen similar from city born folk telling people from elsewhere to fuck off - despite the acute housing crisis and increased homelessness in the cities, and the unable to cope falling apart public services including hospitals

I've heard people who are Brighton born & bred say that about "incomers" and "DFLs". They're also very rude about people who come to Brighton to go to uni and never go away after graduation. Some colleagues who are indigenous Brightonians joke about introducing student visas.

Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 15:16

Message from gwynedd council today. In case people think it's just locals with an outsiders problem. The infrastructure here just cant cope.

Cinammoncake · 22/03/2020 15:19

Can we sensibly assume that any UK holidays we have booked for July/August ought to now be cancelled?

SlayB · 22/03/2020 15:19

My father and my in laws are both spouting their civil liberties are being eroded. They both received letters to self isolate for 14 weeks at risk. They both ignore it like arse holes.

It seems telling people that social distancing is essential means it just applies to everyone else and not them.

Field watch update normal Sunday maybe 1 person walking a dog the whole day. Field watch today families, neighbours, ramblers and all and sundry passing by.

Pollydollx · 22/03/2020 15:21

@BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser

Yep it will be here for months. But if people are not coughing, breathing near eachother in the countryside then walking along with their children/partner is pretty much harmless.

It's just frustrating that people are gathering in huge crowds.

But it's abit judgemental to say people wearing trainers and pink coats are clearly not from here (not you but someone did) or their was a family walking along looking lost stumbling in the fields.

Nobody is better than anyone else. If there are people you don't think are from your class of people around that doesn't give you the right to decide they don't have a right to walk there. So what if they never walked there before. If they are all living together and woke up and thought we need to stretch our legs, have a walk, tire the kids out then that's a positive. Boris has not said under no circumstances should you not enjoy the fresh air with your family you live with. He even said you can visit your mum today if you use your common sense.

People's judgemental comments are really sad to see.

We can all agree you shouldn't be in a crowd, you need to keep a distance of 2+ meters, you should stay in your home with coughs, colds, fevers etc. If you are well just ensure you wash your hands. Sneeze into your elbows and Keep your distance!!!!

This is probably why Boris didn't want to shut schools. He was pressured with a petition aswel as the fact teachers are isolating with potiential symptoms and not being tested. Now parents need to occupy their children for up to 5 months. Some will not have gardens. Garden play is not always good for keeping healthy if you can't walk much. If they were in school they would all be in one place, washing their hands, having their lunch and learning and playing. There is no way anyone can expect any child to not have the outdoors for 5 months. Just by taking them in a field (at a distance) they can explore, run, breathe in the air and be happy.

As for the teenagers in the shops touching drinks. Adults or teenagers in shops are no different. Still carry germs etc. Yes they should of only touched what they needed. Yes they should behave. But there maybe a time in the next few months that I have to take mine into the shops. They are 5 and 2. So far I've not had to. But food is getting harder to find. Don't judge parents for having kids in shops. No it's not ideal but what can some do? We can't leave them at home

Also a little kindness goes a long way. We are all suffering and struggling right now. If anything good comes out of this I hope it's that people do learn to be outside more and go back to basics.

We can all agree some are being irresponsible but many probably just need something to feel more positive.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 15:21

Let me just add Italy's numbers from yesterday
Italy 21st of March
53,578 cases
4,825 dead

mencken · 22/03/2020 15:22

farmers, please give that one verbal warning and then shoot any off-lead dogs among your livestock, making sure it is a quick clean kill of course. Then report to the police explaining that it was worrying animals. The useless owner does have a defence but no-one is going to believe them. We need the food from your livestock and we aren't allowed to eat dogs. Yet.

also a reminder to townie types (and above the law locals, come to that) that if it is a road, your shitting barking menace must be on a lead regardless of traffic level. That IS the law. Might stop it getting run over, and it will also stop it making a nuisance of itself or possibly injuring a walker or cyclist at a time when there is effectively no healthcare. And there is generally almost no healthcare outside the holy city of London anyway.
