Piss off out the countryside

Aibu to think the idiots who have all fled from towns to the countryside are incredibly selfish.
I live in a small rural estate.
There are quite obviously people from towns and cities coming together on gatherings suddenly 'embracing' the countryside.
Ok fine; but they apparently can't stick to the public footpaths where they can all infect each other. Instead they keep coming off the footpath and walking the mile to our estate from it and hanging about.
The average age on our estate is 70+. I don't know anyone else that is under 70 and many are 90+ I haven't seen anyone leave their houses for a long time but today I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate and he was leaning on a bench when a load of teenagers came right up to the boundary of the road to our estate and I saw the man try to get away but he couldn't fast enough and nearly fell over from trying.

We live in isolation anyway generally. This is the first time we've had to deal with so many people coming through our field off the public footpath.
I wish they'd stay away. I also wish less risk people would understand what social distancing means. If they're venturing into our estate I've no doubt they're off gallivanting on to further farms etc. Which can only heighten the problems we face today. These dc are not from the rural area. I've never seen so many cars parked near the footpath. It's so daft it's upsetting.

Boris has warned we will have to go to lockdown. Is this really what people want?
Get out of the countryside if you don't live here. It's obvious so many elderly people live here. Come back in better times.

I hope we go in lockdown as people are blatantly ignoring the social distancing and a lock down is inevitable so why not now. Allowed out for food, pharmacy and takeout only.

Zombiemum1946 · 22/03/2020 13:07

Ynbu. We're in a similar situation where I am. The pressure on the retail sector has escalated as it is. The pressure on health sector is about to ramp up. All tourist sectors should be shut. It's not the apocalypse, there's no zombies, go home.

pocketem · 22/03/2020 13:09

I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate

Why was he doing that when he's meant to be isolating at home?

orangeandbananas · 22/03/2020 13:09

Seriously though I doubt very much the dc around here have no gardens. We are miles away so they must have driven here.
And no one appears to even attempt this social distancing for even the first few weeks.
I might get it if we were in week 12 and people were tiring if it but this is literally the reaction to please stay away from others
Oh I know let's meet up with the mates and go over on private land where there's clearly only ever going to be old people living ! I mean every home has net curtains Winkthey must know!

Being in the fresh air isn't going to kill anyone as long as they maintain a 2 metre gap Sounds very NIMBY to me

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 13:13

There were warnings on twitter that "THIS IS NOT A BANK HOLIDAY". Obviously missed the intended audience of morons

BillywilliamV · 22/03/2020 13:14

Lock down will kill as many as it saves, just quietly with less strain on the NHS!

And do you know how entitled you sound OP?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 22/03/2020 13:15

Op could you put up signs along the boundary and on the approach asking people not to enter as all the residents are in the high risk category?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 22/03/2020 13:17

TBH i think this is one time when NIMBYism is perfectly fine. Don’t accept people in your back yard or anywhere near it. Tell them to go back to their own homes and hang their heads out the window for fresh air.

anyoneforbingo · 22/03/2020 13:20

Derbyshire county council have today closed all their country parks because they've become too busy with people!

Piss off out the countryside
JuanSheetIsPlenty · 22/03/2020 13:22

National trust have too

MaxNormal · 22/03/2020 13:24

And do you know how entitled you sound OP?

Not entitled at all. Ffs stay home people!

LakieLady · 22/03/2020 13:24

YANBU.

I live in a small town on the edge of open countryside, in a national park. People coming to walk in the fields at the back of our house walk past the end of our road.

Yesterday, so many people walked past that I thought the farmer must be up there giving out bog rolls or something.

I saw my neighbour when she got back from taking her dog out, she said she'd never seen it so busy (we were well over 2m apart for this conversation, btw). And it wasn't just single walkers, or family groups, she said she'd seen at least 2 groups of several adults of similar age, and at a couple of points, people had come right up to the gates she was passing through, instead of waiting a decent distance away.

Covid-19 could turn out to be the biggest Darwin award-winning event of all time.

DruryLanePenance · 22/03/2020 13:31

Sorry but the countryside is not cordoned off, and you do not have a weaker immume system or daintier composition from living in the countryside, and living outside of a town is not some special reason to stop people from taking walks - which they are encouraged to do (advice given THIS MORNING). You're not special, you live in a rural area. The issue is people not taking proper distancing measures and the elderly ignoring advice, not people coming to "your land". I don't think people understood just how many people would follow the advice on walking in the "open air" with wide open spaces - you can hardly blame them.

BerryCatHolly · 22/03/2020 13:32

Snowdon, the peaks, National trust sites, beaches and seaside towns. There are images online of these being packed yesterday with people.

Of course getting fresh air is a good idea. You can do that locally by putting on trainers and walking or jogging nearby.

You don’t need to drive to other communities having a jolly. You are taking their resources and potentially spreading it to isolated communities who wouldn’t cope with an outbreak.

It’s selfish as fuck.

Only person nasty here @Drury is you

orangeandbananas · 22/03/2020 13:36

The countryside is not cordoned off but stick to public footpaths. There are so many people coming to the usually empty footpath by us that it is no longer really social distancing.
I don't mean to sound entitled. Genuinely concerned for all elderly residents who should feel as safe as they can at times like these unless it's absolutely necessary for people to go onto estates or meet other people the best thing anyone can do for each other right now is not see other people.

Ps you sound like a nasty piece of work.

Hmm
BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 13:37

Clicked too early!
Hmm ladies and gents. Prime example of who will infect us all. And why other countries are actually looking at uk with a serious concerns

Bluetrews25 · 22/03/2020 13:37

Entitled?
Entitled not to have stupid eejits bringing her a nice little viral present that could decimate her community? OP would probably love to be entitled to that. Actually, we all would.

Xenia · 22/03/2020 13:38

People need to keep their distance on walks and not stray from land they are allowed by law on. The Prime Minster has said walks are a good idea. If we have everyone only at home there will be more health issues than if we let them out.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 22/03/2020 13:39

@orangeandbananas you don't sound entitled. Only entitled people are the ones who think their want to go to a countryside is more important than health of others
