Piss off out the countryside

Aibu to think the idiots who have all fled from towns to the countryside are incredibly selfish.
I live in a small rural estate.
There are quite obviously people from towns and cities coming together on gatherings suddenly 'embracing' the countryside.
Ok fine; but they apparently can't stick to the public footpaths where they can all infect each other. Instead they keep coming off the footpath and walking the mile to our estate from it and hanging about.
The average age on our estate is 70+. I don't know anyone else that is under 70 and many are 90+ I haven't seen anyone leave their houses for a long time but today I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate and he was leaning on a bench when a load of teenagers came right up to the boundary of the road to our estate and I saw the man try to get away but he couldn't fast enough and nearly fell over from trying.

We live in isolation anyway generally. This is the first time we've had to deal with so many people coming through our field off the public footpath.
I wish they'd stay away. I also wish less risk people would understand what social distancing means. If they're venturing into our estate I've no doubt they're off gallivanting on to further farms etc. Which can only heighten the problems we face today. These dc are not from the rural area. I've never seen so many cars parked near the footpath. It's so daft it's upsetting.

Boris has warned we will have to go to lockdown. Is this really what people want?
Get out of the countryside if you don't live here. It's obvious so many elderly people live here. Come back in better times.

The proof of how vile some are is in what people have posted. Really nasty stuff

Give over with the dramatics. People in rural and coastal communities have asked people to stay away because their health care provision only caters for the resident communities. They've explained why countless times on this thread, because they have seen selfish people rocking up to caravan sites, cottages and for days out putting pressure on the local area and risking the spread of this virus.

But there's always someone who has got to argue opposite. That's how we are in a lockdown since last night because people keep insisting its their 'right' to do x y and z.

Your rights for a walk don't trump someone else's right to stay disease free so stay at home.

SarahInAccounts · 24/03/2020 11:39

I'm not the one being dramatic. It's the country drama queens.
@BerryCatHolly

Applejaxx · 24/03/2020 11:42

@SarahInAccounts Have you even bothered to read the regulations?

orangeandbananas · 24/03/2020 11:43

Some people have dug their heels in about everyone being entitled to things they aren't currently entitled to ie travelling distances for a green park when they could just as well take a walk around their area, given the lockdown rules.
They are the one forcing further lockdown rules.

Now we'll just have to see what happens next. Good news by us is only a few people walking down the public path today and definitely not in large groups with picnics and social distancing being adhered to.
Keep safe all. And I welcome all and sundry to the countryside when this has all blown over

Could you be more patronising?

I heard it from a government spokesman's very lips this morning. The rules are not clear in several areas. Hence they have had to explain further. Dear.

SisterSist3r · 24/03/2020 11:52

So grateful for my local area and community . Those further out in the country have not pulled the drawbridge up. Following the woods thread we walked out local lanes passing the big houses and fields at a distance. Several put enjoying the sunshine and all those living out on land were waving and shouting to enjoy the sunshine and walk. There was even a sign saying please pick some daffodils.😍 Only fly in the ointment was the jogger who didn’t keep to the 2 metre rule and flicked her sweat over my teens I had ensured were. Will be taking a very short drive to our empty woods tomorrow. No joggers there.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 24/03/2020 12:22

And here we go with the ‘vile’ usage

Hopefully the sneery lip came into play too.

No one is disputing you can go for a walk. What is not sensible is travelling miles to do so.

And going hiking unprepared and knowing someone WILL rescue you despite them asking you not to come to an area. Because they are entitled. And of course they will expect a rare bed because they’ve injured themselves.

If that sounds patronising so be it. Dear.

I can only see one person being vile by the way. And yes, I utilised my sneery lip.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 24/03/2020 12:24

And no I don’t have a pitchfork and I’m no longer a country dweller.

But that is where I work and I know these problems first hand thank you.

Gosh how quaint seeing those "living on the land". Like zoo animals to keep you entertained? People in rural locations are not some kind of novelty you know....

I dont get this. How do you know it will be empty? Have you got a webcam there or something?

The government says stay home and yet oh know special Suzie has got to out to her special bit of the woods.

Instead of leaving them for everyone to enjoy?Confused
I'm almost hoping there's full lockdown before bluebell season, reading that.

Doesn't everyone know the basic rules - take only photos, leave only footprints.

SisterSist3r · 24/03/2020 12:45

Oh don’t be so ridiculous. We live in the same community. They just have bigger houses and land.No novelty just a lovely community with everybody making the best of things and pulling together. They waved at us and shouted across, we answered and did the same back. I seriously have no interest in what anybody is loading into their trailer or digging. I’m not that desperate for entertainment- yet!

SisterSist3r · 24/03/2020 12:47

Re daffs they seemed to have hoards on verge. Maybe they wanted them picked before they go over and look tatty. I have plenty so left for somebody else. Nice to think of the elderly who can’t get out much having that facility. Kind gesture. Their land so their choice.

TheMemoryLingers · 24/03/2020 12:53

The best advice is to go for your walk in your own neighbourhood. We live in an urban area - my husband has just been out for his walk and he saw only two other people on the streets in 30 minutes.

XingMing · 24/03/2020 21:02

Daffodils grow wild here, even fancy scented doubles, because until 1960s, they were grown commercially for picking and sending to Covent Garden. Now those who own the land can't afford to pick them for comercial sale as the pickers cost too much, so they are in buckets at every other farm gate -- for sale for 50p a bunch. They're nearly finished flowering locally. We are moving on to pinks, about which the above applies too, but they smell divine. We can buy bales of flowers very cheaply and this year, the pick and weigh options for strawberries (which were the third main crop) will be good news for anyone who wants to make jam. Strawberry jam is technically difficult, I am told. This may be the first year I try but it will be because I overbought preserving sugar to make marmelade.

@Sister, the daffs will be left to go tatty and collapse, because the plant's buld re-absorbs the nutrients from the decay. No one will mow until the leaves have gone brown and died back. It's not park keeping here in the country.

XingMing · 24/03/2020 21:15

I know that probably sounded a bit flippant, but it's how life works locally. People sell their surplus by their gate, with an unlocked cash box. Walking the dog, I'll usually have loose change in my pocket in case I see anything I want. Heck, I take stuff from places I go regularly and leave an IOU if I have a pen and paper, or stop at the door and explain if I have nothing on me, then go back next day to pay... but I always pay. I've lived here for 30 years and we are not dolts. Your name would be mud if you failed to pay debts, across five parishes.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 24/03/2020 23:47

@XingMing

We used to have that in my home area. Then people arrived from all over and they started robbing both the produce and the honesty box.

The way round this was a surprise. If someone had a glut of something, it was packaged up (jam/veg box/ flowers) was left on someone’s back step. We all did something and it was lovely.

I’m super envious of your pinks. I absolutely adore that smell!
