So Hardware stores are still allowed to open.
Which means B&Q will be full to the brim again like it has been every day for the past week.

Number12 · 23/03/2020 22:09

+967 confirmed in UK. I've obviously missed the numbers today. That's huge.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:11

I was told today my leg injury might well need to be seen by a consultant at the hospital during the next couple of weeks if the risk of infection of the wound remains too high. Don't have access to a car and its over an hour walk away. Would i be allowed on a bus to get there i wonder

DrBlackbird · 23/03/2020 22:12

Red Doh...! Took me a second 🤦‍♀️

Paul Brand - 'Big question tonight is how lockdown will be enforced.

  1. How will police know your shopping is vital? Will they check your bags?
  2. How will they know if it’s your 1st or 2nd bit of exercise outdoors that day?
  3. How will they know people you’re out with live with you? '
RedToothBrush · 23/03/2020 22:14

Would i be allowed on a bus to get there i wonder

Yes it's for medical reasons.

StrawberryJam200 · 23/03/2020 22:14

Thanks so much for that link, invaluable MustBeDue!

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:15

James Forsyth - 'One of the reasons for tonight’s shift is that there was a sense in government that there could not be a repeat of the scenes on the London tube this morning — when carriages were frequently packed in breach of the social distancing guidelines.'

They be just as busy tommrow because most of the passengers were manual building type workers who the government has not yet sent home.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:19

Manufacturing NI - 'Written guidance now published.
Factories and many other parts of the economy can stay open.'

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:21

Robert Jenrick - 'Advice on takeaways and deliveries:
Please follow Public Health England guidance on social distancing - including not inviting customers inside to wait. Ordering by phone strongly advised.'

Robert Jenrick - 'Advice for the housing, construction & building maintenance industries:
If you can work from home, do so.
If you are working on site, you can continue to do so. But follow Public Health England guidance on social distancing.
Outside of work, remember to #StayHomeSaveLives.'

So there’s still going to be an awful lot of people working....

wherearemychickens · 23/03/2020 22:31

But who are they constructing for? According to the rules you shouldn't be packing up and moving house should you. So they are finishing houses that no-one can move into. Building sites in my experience are not bastions of hygiene either.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:35

Tommrow tube being packed again will see a uturn.

GMP Chief Constable urges people to call only if necessary after coronavirus sees workforce reduced by ten per cent
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said a large number of staff had been forced to self-isolate

Tom Newton Dunn - 'Why the dramatic change in No10 strategy? I’m told SAGE data found advisory social distancing was failing dramatically. Well below 75% of UK population was observing it - the figure needed for it to bring down contagion, eg use of parks was up 200% alone last weekend.'

defthand · 23/03/2020 22:39

Spain today +6368 cases, +539 deaths.

Just wow.

shivermetimbers77 · 23/03/2020 22:41

My sister is a police officer : they will have an awful job trying to enforce this . She already said they have been spat at more times than she can count this week by people claiming to be infected. She is exhausted...i work for the NHS and would far rather my job than hers.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 22:43

The bit about the numbers I don't understand is: Italy is much worse yet "only" has 6000+ deaths so how do we think we will have 200,000??

DakotaFanny · 23/03/2020 22:47

That’s awful shivermetimbers

Thank you both for all you are doing.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 22:48

That crossed my mind too Horehound. And 20k is lowest projection we’ve seen.
