People wont die if refuse collectors dont come but i fully expect bins to be collected all over the uk tommrow.

Aurea · 23/03/2020 21:35

Another question, my car is due to be MOTed on Wednesday which is kind of essential. Are garages still open?

Petiolaris · 23/03/2020 21:35

If you cannot work from home but the work is not essential you just don't work
That is not what Boris said though.

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2020 21:36

Re construction sites. Supply shops will be closed, builders likely won’t be able to keep working if can’t get supplies for their work

If you buy bulk wholesale direct from supplier with no shop then you will be able to continue.

Self employed small scale builders are the ones who will have more issues if they can't nip to B and Q.

But home delivery still an option.

light hearted We have a Collie, 1 walk a day, she will not like that Grin

flowerycurtain · 23/03/2020 21:40

Can everybody also stop telling people to jump in their car and come and walk in our countryside footpaths.

There's tonnes of people on here saying "oh but my dog needs walking twice a day".

There were 33 people on our farm footpath today that I saw. There's normally 3.

Just don't. Your dog will survive. People won't. And the farms your passing, touching gates and stiles are feeding you. We don't have hr to hire more people. We don't have lots of staff to cover.

Number12 · 23/03/2020 21:40

There's always one who insists they had the inside scoop and knew before everyone else but they were sworn to secrecy Grin

Alex Wickham -'Shops selling non-essential goods are being shut but told retailers will still be able to do deliveries of non-essential items.'

Aurea · 23/03/2020 21:42

Just seen this quote today from Nicola Sturgeon. I guess garages could be exempt if they practise social distancing.

So I want to reiterate that if you run a business, and if the nature of your business makes it difficult for you or your workers to work from home or to practice safe social distancing, then you should close for the period of the efforts to combat this virus.

PJMasksGhekko · 23/03/2020 21:43

flowery I can assure you we are not any of those people.

tigerbear · 23/03/2020 21:45

Regarding children who live 50/50 between two households, does anyone know what the rules are on going back and forth?

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2020 21:47

Dh: Timpsons is closing tomorrow...

... But they are key workers

(*yes I know its bad)

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 21:48

Matthew Holehouse - “Every citizen is instructed to comply with these new measures.” An unusual sentence to appear in a UK government notice, and which advertises how much it’s in fact reliant on goodwill and publicmindedness to work.'

Tom Newton Dunn - 'What is staying OPEN:

  • All roads and rail lines, so workers can get to and from work if they can't work from home
  • Supermarkets, pharmacies, vets, pet shops, hardware stores, newsagents, petrol stations, banks, post offices, laundrettes and undertakers.'

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 21:50

Well they don't tell people to only walk to the supermarket so presumably they expect plenty to drive to their usual one.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 21:56

Can people please stop playing dumb on here?

Namethecat · 23/03/2020 21:56

Alwayscheerful · 23/03/2020 21:58

@Aurea mots on trucks are lorries are Suspended for 3 months. Arrangements for cars are tbc.

Alwayscheerful · 23/03/2020 22:02

@Sunshinesky1981
Boris clearly said non essential shops would close but businesses could carry on selling non essential items via online orders.
That means to me the workers can drive to work to despatch and package orders for a non essential business.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:03

Jane Merrick - 'Allotment people: I’ve had it confirmed that going to the allotment does count as your one exercise per day. Just NO gathering with others.'

Aurea · 23/03/2020 22:04

Thanks alwayscheerful. That's a relief!

Alwayscheerful · 23/03/2020 22:04

@Sunshinesky1981

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 22:05

Yes the government has told the likes of amazon they can keep delivering everything.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 23/03/2020 22:06

The full detail.can be found here www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others

Don't know if link will work but so many people seem to have mosfeard the direction about travelling for work. You can if you can't work from home. There's nothing about these being 'essential' roles.
