Thanks - and also thanks to the person that sent a link.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 22/03/2020 15:01

@TheCanterburyWhales thank you. It was a year ago, he was 97 and amazing. I am glad he isn't around for this as he wouldn't of survived at all.

cjt110 · 22/03/2020 15:01

@ClashCityRocker thanks

@EmeraldShamrock 50 Cuban doctors specialising in infectious disease have arrived too.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/03/2020 15:29

That is good, the medical staff must be exhausted. Sad

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2020 15:35

Peter John @peterjohn6
Those playgrounds and spaces in @lb_southwark parks which can be locked will be locked and not re-opened after tonight. Park cafes will also be closed completely.
STAY HOME unless it’s absolutely necessary to go out. Your choice could be the difference between life & death.

Parks in Southwark closed.

The local national park park near me has been closed today. So happening in multiple places.

Lucia Walker @luciajwalker
Ferry companies in Scotland have been instructed to only allow people who live on the islands to use the service. And help non-residents get off the islands. This follows many reports of an influx of people heading for the highlands and islands. Putting those communities at risk.

WhyNotMe40 · 22/03/2020 15:40

Apparently many Cheltenham festival race goers are now suffering Covid symptoms.

Well, no shit Sherlock Hmm

SistemaAddict · 22/03/2020 15:42

That's good news about the parks. Unfortunately a lot of them can't be locked. Lockdown piece by piece is causing societal osmosis.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/03/2020 15:44

Apparently many Cheltenham festival race goers are now suffering Covid symptoms One of the cases diagnosed in Ireland was in Cheltenham with the other 19999 idiot's.

namechangemania · 22/03/2020 15:56

Lockdowns not enough to defeat coronavirus: WHO's Ryan

Countries can't simply lock down their societies to defeat coronavirus, the World Health Organization's top emergency expert said on Sunday, adding that public health measures are needed to avoid a resurgence of the virus later on.

"What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, and isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them," Mike Ryan said in an interview on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show.

"The danger right now with the lockdowns ... if we don't put in place the strong public health measures now, when those movement restrictions and lockdowns are lifted, the danger is the disease will jump back up."

The government quickly need to put some financial assistance in place for the self employed/zero hours workers.

The survey below shows that people would continue going to work when unwell as they wouldn’t have any income.

I would feel obliged to work if I became unwell with coronavirus, due to needing the income
AgreeNeither/don't know*Disagree

All 37% agree
Self-employed 47%
Insecure workers 51%
Zero-hours contract 55%
Temporary contract 46%
Neither self-employed nor insecure 33%

Just seen older lady on my road wave goodbye to what looked like her whole extended family.

Then the ICE CREAM VAN arrived and people from at least 2 houses bought ice creams.

While 2 other neighbours chatted closely about gardening, one of whom clearly just back with new garden equipment.

I know I am being a nosey neighbour but People. Are. So Stupid.

These are the same people who in 2-3 weeks time will be needlessly taking up more hospital beds than the NHS can cope with, and loudly declaring they and their family have a right to the unavailable ventilators.

While those who took precautions but still caught it, maybe key workers and their families, also need those beds and ventilators.

I feel like either I'm the most arrogant person alive to judge their decisions, or I'm the only one here seeing things with crystal clarity and if so why is that. Its like I've been on a different plane to everyone I know for weeks, months now.

Rainbowunicat · 22/03/2020 16:25

Where are today's numbers?

MurrayTheMonk · 22/03/2020 16:26

Ice cream
Vans would be better off selling eggs!

Horehound · 22/03/2020 16:27

Do you think people could just look at worldometer so that they can check for themselves what the numbers are or even if they have been announced. Because these threads fill up so fast and any posts asking the same question over and over is just adding to that.

Horehound · 22/03/2020 16:27

Givemeabreakpls · 22/03/2020 16:29

So 11 new deaths today?

AvocadoOwl · 22/03/2020 16:29

Today's numbers haven't been released yet I don't think @Rainbowunicat
