Is lockdown coming for us?

Do you really think a proper lockdown is coming for us, just like Italy? My husband is still burying his head in the sand about this. I think it’s a real possibility.

I think it will be announced Monday/Tuesday.

Yes it needs to happen. The Yorkshire Dales were heaving with tourists and day trippers day. I've seen post after post on a closed group I am part of with people saying the villages are busier than they are in summer - the caravan sites are filling up, the village of Malham today was so busy that the farmer opened up the overflow parking and there were rows and rows of parked cars. People were swarming the local stores and eating "takeaway" together in the village. This is not social distancing!
Similar reports from the Highlands. Coastal towns.

Glaceon · 21/03/2020 23:34

I certainly hope so. The police have the legislation to back enforcing it so they need to use it. People arent listening here. I think by the time it does itll be too late.

Overthegardenfence · 21/03/2020 23:36

I really hope so

BackyardChickens · 21/03/2020 23:37

Our tiny village was rammed today with tourists. People are not listening.

Why are so many non-essential shops still open? A few charity shops in my local high street, for example, wtf? A few older people in one, chatting away like it's any normal day. Why are these places even open?

Maydayredalert · 21/03/2020 23:41

I'm disgusted with people. I genuinely question what it will take. More deaths? Their relatives? When it rips through entire communities?

colouringinpro · 21/03/2020 23:41

Please God we do

Titsywoo · 21/03/2020 23:41

A friend who works in a london hospital told me she's pretty damn sure it will happen next week from what she is hearing and seeing. Her nhs id was updated (old photo) as they'll need to show them to leave the house.

FreakStar · 21/03/2020 23:41

Why do people think that we're going to be different to other European countries?

Of course we will end up in lockdown- either that or the government is just going to let it spread and weed out the stupid!

BunnytheBee · 21/03/2020 23:43

I went out for a walk and came across a couple of people walking along at a distance which is fine but then there was a group of about 6 people walking together and taking up the whole walk way so it was difficult to keep a 1 m distance let alone 2 m distance l. I was quite annoyed!

I went out as it’s a fairly open area and should be easy to keep a distance but it seems like people don’t think!

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 21/03/2020 23:43

Yes, because stupid twats aren't giving a shit. A pub in the next town defied the order to close and took photos of themselves with their pints - cunts.

user127819 · 21/03/2020 23:45

I think our government's tactic has been to try to encourage people to social distance as much as possible without resorting to mandatory measures, but it's not working. Many people are taking it very seriously, but plenty aren't. So I think we will end up in some degree of "lockdown" within the next week or two. They're already building up to it, by closing bars and restaurants etc. Next it will be the non-essential shops.

CantSayJack · 21/03/2020 23:45

Hope so because the British public can’t be trusted.
I feel sorry for the NHS and emergency workers who have no choice but also supermarket workers (who are being forced to work) with absolutely no social distancing at all.

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 23:45

Yes I went out on my own do my best to keep a distance from people in a fairly secluded area only to find large groups with numerous dogs all running around on off Leads and trying to jump at me☹️👎

Silvergreen · 21/03/2020 23:46

You can be absolutely sure it is.

Whydididothatfuckingthing · 21/03/2020 23:46

I really don’t understand why people can’t follow simple instructions. I’m trying to get some rest and can hear at least 2 hours parties in full swing wtaf is wrong with people!.. we need to look down now!

OhMargo · 21/03/2020 23:47

Will have to be done I think. Look at Italy. OMG.

But I still think UK is in denial.

FreakStar · 21/03/2020 23:50

Too many Brits think it doesn't apply to them, they think we are invincible for some reason and we clearly are no different to any other nation.

Quarantino · 21/03/2020 23:51

Great, because some people can't follow simple instructions the whole country will have to pay for resources to enforce it.
Fucking idiots the ones who can't stay inside or socially distance.
(yes yes I don't mean people who have to go out to work etc)

HoneyBee03 · 21/03/2020 23:52

How would they police it? I live in a village where I haven't seen a police car in about 6 months. Are there enough resources to enforce something like this across the country?

Quarantino · 21/03/2020 23:53

I genuinely wonder how long it'll be before someone gets a civil lawsuit against them for harming someone (if someone dies of it and contact can be traced back to them pissing about?) Anyone know if that's likely to be a thing - like criminal negligence?

Magicpaintbrush · 21/03/2020 23:54

Now realising that up to this point I have been giving the great British public credit for more intelligence than they actually have, when actually half of them are absolute fuckwits. How hard is it to understand that they need to stay away from each other so people don't catch this virus and die? "It will never happen to me" attitude is alive and kicking.

TangoWhisky · 21/03/2020 23:54

Yes.

100%

How people still do not understand the seriousness of this is beyond me.

Italy had nearly 800 deaths in 24 hours. 800.
We have 6 million more people than them and they have 50% more ICU beds than us. What do people think is going to happen !!!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 21/03/2020 23:55

Yes we shall go on lock down as other countries have i think will be sometime this week.

Maybe it will just be the cities I don’t know

But we are being prepared for that as we keep being told

The military will be involved if the need to be to keep the lock down working as smoothly as possible

stardance · 21/03/2020 23:55

Personally I think that providing childcare only for families with both parents on the key worker list would make a massive difference and should have been the case all along! It also needs to be properly controlled, no flexibility.

Also agree that people need to just stay at home!! (Aside from necessary shopping and so on as advised.) So many people just don't seem to care?!
