Is lockdown coming for us?

Do you really think a proper lockdown is coming for us, just like Italy? My husband is still burying his head in the sand about this. I think it’s a real possibility.

I think it will be announced Monday/Tuesday.

OP posts:
TangoWhisky · 21/03/2020 23:56

They are potentially bringing the army in, for the possible enforcement of isolation

Titsywoo · 21/03/2020 23:56

I think that's a big issue @HoneyBee03. I don't see how it's going to work.

pigsDOfly · 21/03/2020 23:56

@Heathercob You'll be allowed out to feed your mare, in the same way essential food shopping and walks will be allowed.

Dagnabit · 21/03/2020 23:56

@Heathercob - I would think leaving your home to feed your horses is classed as essential so I wouldn’t worry about that. Just don’t stop for a coffee on the way!

OhMargo · 21/03/2020 23:57

HoneyBee

Have to call them out on it on a personal level now. Takes a bit of courage for sure, but what the heck, I would and will take the fall out. All for one, and one for all, right?

Gilead · 21/03/2020 23:57

Local spoons was open today and apparently will be tomorrow.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 21/03/2020 23:58

One question for possible lockdown.

My elderly dad is isolating in his house and I'm driving over once a week with supplies for him. Not going near him physically, just leaving the stuff on doorstep. I'm going to leave a massive supply, but if he needs something in the lock down will someone be able to help him or will they let me through?

Ugzbugz · 21/03/2020 23:59

Yes because unfortunately we are a nation of idiots it seems, at least ten friends are doing social activities whilst i have sat home alone all weekend, I actually cannot comprehend the stupidity of the country who will then be devastated when their family start dying and slagging of the NHS when they cant cope.

OhMargo · 22/03/2020 00:00

Time now for humans to be cared for more than animals are right now.

We will see how this pans out.

Glaceon · 22/03/2020 00:01

@Gilead report them. They face losing license and huge fines.

@HoneyBee03 Most areas will comply. They will redeploy police and army to areas that are hotspots for non compliance.

UYScuti · 22/03/2020 00:01

it feels as if lots of people will be happy to suffer lockdown so long as they know that people they hate are also suffering it

wedwoses · 22/03/2020 00:02

I’ve had permission to post this message tonight from a frontline NHS worker who lives in a town near me. I don’t know her, have never met her.

**

As a front line NHS worker I do not know how to say this without sounding dramatic. Just fucking stay in. Please. Nearly 800 people dead in a day in Italy. EIGHT HUNDRED. That is 2 747s. And tomorrow will me more than 800. This is exponential. Once you start reducing transmission it will take 2-3 weeks for that to have an effect on ICU admission, maybe 2-3 weeks more for deaths. There is no way we will not get to Italy. We are already there. Every single human contact you have is a potential spread. We go to escalation on Monday. We were hoping maybe 1-2 weeks before it hits us really badly but that might optimistic. But of course it is not us it is hitting. It is you. It is your families, your friends. Please please please just stay in.

For the first time ever in my life I cannot rush into a room and try and save or help people. It might be 10-15 minutes before I can get in. Psychologically this is devastating for healthcare workers who are used to bending every rule they can to get you your care in an overstretched system.

I am scared that I am going to be intubating my friends and colleagues. I am scared that my exposure might lead me to being a victim.

End of message

Sushiroller · 22/03/2020 00:02

It's coming.

Bug8 · 22/03/2020 00:10

Am 39+4 weeks pregnant and am worried about what is going to happen. Being pregnant, am high risk, partner has a teenage son who lives with his mum and comes to us every weekend. With kids off school, I made a mistake of suggesting that maybe my step son isolates for a week before coming over to us for as long as he likes. That didn't go down well, then again I said to him that even if it wasn't for isolation, we are sort of expecting new baby to arrive any time now, was hoping this weekend (but of course we don't know when baby will arrive, can't be sure. He said to me that we will have to go to the hospital with my step son.

My step son is still mixing with his friends and we have to have him with us when he comes over (I don't have a problem with him coming to stay with us), am just worried about how I protect me (pregnant & high risk) and how does one protect a newborn from getting infected? Sadly, am alone with this worry, OH doesn't see it and my sister doesn't cos she says am putting my OH in a difficult position. Maybe lock down would be great so he can't mix with friends, then can just be between his mum's and ours for now. I won't have to worry abt baby when that's the case.

Italy had nearly 800 deaths in 24 hours. 800.
We have 6 million more people than them and they have 50% more ICU beds than us. What do people think is going to happen !!!

this is terrifying

MissyJane2 · 22/03/2020 00:14

Well on the News they were talking about putting London in lockdown.
But I was glad when Boris Johnson Prime Minister did not in his Friday announcement on the news.

But I live in Goodmayes which is London Bough of Redbridgre and Romford is Havering both are London Boughs but are Essex on the postcode. So we are what you call Greater London.

So if they do decide to put London on lockdown does that mean only Centeral London and the Inner London areas like Hackney?

Or will it also be greater London districts outside like ours or if you are in Surry Richmond and Kingston for instance?

I have had several serious illnesses since early December, including sepsis due to kidneyy infection. My husband has bronchietiasis, and my daughter type 1 diabetes. I also have severe Generalized Anxiety Disorder, due to PTSD. Both hubbby and daughter are self isolating due to their illnesses, and I am also, because of my compromised immune system after illnesses plus my G.a.D. means I am agoraphobic. But, the greedy b...s who've stripped the shelves due to hoarding mean we can't get any food unless I beg kind people for help. And now, even worse, I've been told that my med. prescribed by my psych. requires me to have to sign for it personally, so although a kind local offered to collect my meds my doc. says it MUST be me who turns up, in person, to sign the chitty. (n.b. The signing requirement is imposed due to irresponsible thrill-seeking junkies abusing a medicine!!!) So now, my anxiety is through the roof, constant panic attacks, and I feel like I'm going insane, The sight of cretins flaunting themselves and their kids in parks, in pubs and even in pub gardens etc., catching and passing on this virus, which I am terrified I'll now inevitably get and pass on to my loved ones, is making me so incredibly, incredibly angry. For God's sake, MAKE IT LAW for the whole country to go on immediate lockdown. Arrest those who break the rules, and throw away the key. won't happen, of course. They'll be allowed to carry on behaving exactly as they wish, and there's nothing I, or any of us here who wants lockdown, say or do.

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 00:17

It will have to be the whole country.

Blackbear19 · 22/03/2020 00:19

I'm thinking lockdown will happen Monday night with an announcement Sunday night or Monday morning. Gives people who are still in offices a chance to grab what they need to work remotely.

The country is ready for it, list of key workers, rest of kids are home, childcare arranged for key workers, money for employees and self employed sorted, leisure places closed.
The last brick is everyone except key workers stay home.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/03/2020 00:22

Yes I think you are right Blackbear

There had to be some preparation

Glaceon · 22/03/2020 00:27

Itll have to be the whole country or people will just leave areas like the did in italy.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/03/2020 00:30

We shouldn't need it but clearly do. B&Q apparently going like a supermarket at Christmas.

I selfishly hope not until the weekend, we need to get DS2 home from Uni but we've been in quarantine and unable to go and didn't want to bring him into it. DH and DS1 not in clear until next Saturday.

Fatasfooook · 22/03/2020 00:31

Yes. People have flocked to rural and coastal towns and villages today, treating it like a holiday and spreading the virus far and wide. Lockdown is necessary because people are selfish dicks

Opendraw · 22/03/2020 00:32

Friends son having bday party I was trying to say to friends it’s a bad idea. She thought I should chill they spent all day together at school. My point is they may be carrying no symptoms who may pass on to her and then she is still in work. Furthermore she was going to see friends while party on. I can’t believe She can’t make this leap herself.

MummyPop00 · 22/03/2020 00:32

Re: ICU beds, gov have now done a deal with the private sector, so the comparisons with Italy may not be like for like. Plus, hearing positive noises from the British manufacturers roped in to manufacture ventilators at incredibly short notice. Yeah. After people took the piss out of the gov for asking the likes of JCB to help out.

Locking down just London? I’d rather not, as doing this to northern Italy made 200,000 Italians head South. Whole of GB please. NI can match whatever the RoI are doing.

Pubs & Cafes flouting govt advice should be named and shamed
