Is lockdown coming for us?

Do you really think a proper lockdown is coming for us, just like Italy? My husband is still burying his head in the sand about this. I think it’s a real possibility.

I think it will be announced Monday/Tuesday.

That’s not on @Bug8 You are right it be concerned. I think you need to tell your DH that if his DS is to come over then he needs to practice social distancing and no mixing with friends. If he is not willing to do this then he should stay with his mother for now. Lives are at stake here.

LINABE · 22/03/2020 00:33

It had better bloody happen. Even more deaths if not.

4forkssake · 22/03/2020 00:36

Parks & beaches near us have been rammed - it's as if people are having one last hoorah before they're forced to stay in Angry & I dare say they'll be the same tomorrow. Pubs giving customers pints at cost last night & therefore heaving (even though the owners of one said they can claim the money back from the brewery). Spoke to a neighbour today who works for a brewery & loads of pubs are still asking for deliveries. Thankfully they won't but apparently the landlords are just going to wholesalers, locking the front doors so they look closed & letting people in through the back. Hope they get caught & have their licenses revoked AngryAngryAngry

swishthecat · 22/03/2020 00:39

I agree we need a proper lockdown, but how will it be enforced? Do we have the numbers of police/military to cover the whole country? Even locking down London alone would need thousands of people to enforce the rules.

sociallydistained · 22/03/2020 00:41

I think it has to come by next Friday at the absolute latest but in all honestly I think I Monday. I can't understand what I'm seeing from people

StormyClouds · 22/03/2020 00:42

There is no need for a lockdown. What we should be doing is rapidly expanding our testing capacity and telling those who are vulnerable to self-isolate.

South Korea is getting through this by testing everyone with symptoms and then isolating people who are positive and their contacts.

That would be far more effective than populist but stupid measures like lockdowns.

sociallydistained · 22/03/2020 00:45

@stormyclouds clearly the Korean aren't as bloody stupid as us though. It isn't just about testing.

YouokHun · 22/03/2020 00:46

I wonder what lockdown would mean for my parents. My father is in the late stages of cancer and is allowed 1 designated visitor. I can no longer be with him which is heartbreaking. My mother who is coping on her own because I can’t be with her either, is terrified that she will be prevented from being with him and he’ll die alone. She is self isolating in the sense of being at home alone, in her car, or in the room with him, so she is being sensible. I’m really worried though.

4forkssake · 22/03/2020 00:48

@Bug8 I don't think your DH will be able to take your stepson to hospital as I'm pretty sure most, of not all hospitals now have 1 birthing partner per person & no extra visitors.

Bug8 · 22/03/2020 00:48

Bunnythebee, thanks for understanding cos I feel alone in this. People think am being selfish and having an attitude but am genuinely concerned about me and little one who is due any time. I feel like we aren't thought about and our lives can be gambled with. I am high risk and baby is high risk but hey, OH is willing to risk than try and make sure all family including step son are safe.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:49

The good weather and closed venues is making everyone congregate outside so yes maybe.

tangledyarn · 22/03/2020 00:49

@youokhun I'm sure there will be exceptions made in this situation. My brother is in the area of Germany where there is lockdown, he says you get asked on the street where you are going, but it didnt sound awful or inflexible but practical. Am really sorry..it sounds awful for you all Flowers

Glaceon · 22/03/2020 00:50

The koreans have listened to government advice though. My step sister lives there and theyve taken it seriously from the start.

We havent. People are laughing about it. The countries that have listened and followed government advice have all contained it. The countries who's footsteps we are following in are france, Italy and spain.

StormyClouds · 22/03/2020 00:50

In Korea, schools are open, restaurants are open, shops and open, everything is open. If you can isolate people who are infected (and their contacts) and keep the vulnerable off the streets, it is not necessary to have a lockdown.

South Korea have accepted that it is not possible to kill this virus- far better and more effective to keep it at a steady, constant level of cases. All a lockdown does is relieves the pressure for a while- it will be back.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:52

South Korea have done the best out of everyone. Or one of best. We are too far past their numbers though to do the same. Unfortunately

BunnytheBee · 22/03/2020 00:53

@Bug8 I get that he doesn’t want his son to feel left out but there is a deadly pandemic out there and the health of both his children must come first. Could you talk to him again? He could give his son the option - self isolate with you or not visit for a bit. That way you’re not saying you don’t want to see him.

Grandmi · 22/03/2020 00:54

Yes it does need to happen Asap. I live in a very middle class part of England and the younger people are already just going out getting pissed and have no comprehension about the virus!!

GiantRedPanda · 22/03/2020 00:54

South Korea is getting through this by testing everyone with symptoms and then isolating people who are positive and their contacts.

Yep. The earlier you implement measures, the less severe they need to be. We waited too long so now we have to go for lockdown.

4forkssake · 22/03/2020 00:54

@Youokhun I don't know for definite but I'm sure they won't stop your mum going to be with your dad. I think during a lockdown you can go to work providing you're a key worker & have proof, one person per family can go for a food shop or to the chemist, dogs can be taken for walks (away from others & not too far from home - I think you have to take proof of address in some countries in case you're stopped) & people can go to elderly/vulnerable people to take them supplies. There was also a recent list of people who can visit hospitals & visiting people who were seriously ill was on the list.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad SadThanks

tangledyarn · 22/03/2020 00:54

@stormyclouds Totally agree re testing, it's been a disaster..the numbers they are putting out are leading the general population into a false sense of security. They dont feel at risk because theres only 5000. They need to start telling people the estimated actual infections. The reality is now there are huge amounts of community spread. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the number was closer to 750,000.

LINABE · 22/03/2020 00:55

Stormyclouds are you for fucking real? Let me quote your stupid ignorant statement in a couple of weeks shall I?
A "Stupid measure like lockdown"?
Why dont you ask the head Doctor in Bergamo ITALY what she thinks of that?
Another British twat that is going to cost peoples lives. Hope your own Family doesn't die.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:57

Numbers won’t stop people drinking beer in the sun. They are headlines at best. People they know dying might. Or a lockdown.

Glaceon · 22/03/2020 00:59

We havent fucking acted like Korea. That ship sailed long ago. Koreans took everything seriously from the very start.

StormyClouds · 22/03/2020 01:00

@LINABE

A lockdown cannot be in place for ever and it does NOT KILL THE VIRUS or make it go away. All it does is restrict the spread for a few weeks.

We have to accept that people will get it and people will die. The goal has to be to keep the number of cases to a constant and sustainable level over a 12-18 month period.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 01:01

Exactly there’s no point going on about another country who dealt with it properly a month ago.
