CFs literally panic buying freezers!

Found this out today - refrigeration shops are out of freezers due to people buying them to stock up on extra frozen stuff!

This is bananas! Who is doing this crazy shit?!

it's a normal size freezer, in a 6-foot tall Samsung fridge for those who asked - 4 shelves).
That is not a normal size freezer. It’s huge. A normal size one is an under the counter one.
We don’t have a freezer. Not even a fridge freezer. There’s no space.

Fantasiaa · 22/03/2020 07:07

@whatdayisitandotherquestions

No, I would rather NHS workers, vulnerable people, the elderly and other people are able to access food because people haven’t selfishly gone to the stop 4 times a week.

Prepenultimate · 22/03/2020 07:14

I'm sick of people denouncing others and calling them vile names. People are doing their best to plan and manage in completely unpredictable circumstances. I'm not condemning anyone for buying a freezer.
If they're buying 5 and selling them on at vastly inflated prices, well that's different.
The government is telling us to adapt for a completely different way of living. People are anxious and trying to do what they can to prepare for an uncertain future.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 22/03/2020 07:15

All freezers at John Lewis are out of stock apart from the integrated ones

The freezer mentioned above in the 6ft tall Samsung fridge would be normal size as at least half of it would be fridge so freezer part similar size to an undercounter freezer.

Fantasiaa · 22/03/2020 07:17

I’m sick of shops being empty.

Prepenultimate · 22/03/2020 07:17

When you buy a freezer, you're a control freak. When someone else buys a freezer, they're a selfish cheeky fucker??????

HeronLanyon · 22/03/2020 07:18

I had to panic order a fridge freezer Thursday. My older fridge freezer gave up and conked out. It was full but not over full think a mixture of age and fullness.
In the event and for other reasons I cancelled that order Saturday.
Really saying I think quite a few orders will be because of understanble breakdowns. Not necessarily cf panic stocking up.

MrsMGE · 22/03/2020 07:18

This.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 22/03/2020 07:27

I prepared for all of this coming a couple of months ago, I bought a new freezer and stocked up.

I'm fucking glad I did because there are 8 people in my house and I cant get a normal food shop now because everything is restricted to 3 items per person.

I order online from musclefoods and amazon pantry now to keep the freezer and cupboards topped up, but with the extra demand the deliveries are taking a couple of weeks. I have enough that we wouldn't have to go out for a few weeks, and I'm also not contributing to the madness in the supermarkets at the moment.

If I hadn't bought it I literally wouldnt be able to do a weekly shop for my family just now and would have to be going to the supermarket multiple times a week, and putting many others, and myself, at risk.

I'm not a CF I'm doing the best for my family, and I'm glad I did.

OK, I see. It’s a fridge freezer, not a freezer.

lljkk · 22/03/2020 07:32

We don't even own a freezer

I predict that in 2 yrs there will be lots & lots of 2nd hand freezers available for pennies.

daisypond · 22/03/2020 07:36

Yes, I definitely wish I had one, even a small mini one. It would have to go in the living room.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 22/03/2020 07:42

How the hell is buying a freezer a 'CF'? Entirely sensible to freeze left overs, stock up a bit (note NOT stockpile) but be ready for isolation if one of the family go down with CV.

MrsMGE · 22/03/2020 07:42

Seriously, I just love how people who are the root cause of the problem don't recognise it and flip it on its head now.

You bought too much. THIS is why there are restrictions now. Had you lot not panicked, we would have ALL been fine.

ArtichokeAardvark · 22/03/2020 07:49

My parents have bought a freezer. My father is 76 with advanced lung cancer - his respiratory system is already so weak that he cannot climb stairs without gasping for breath at the top. If he gets infected, he will almost certainly die. They are not going to be leaving the house again until this is all over, and they can't get online delivery slots even 3 weeks ahead. Our local Tesco has queues round the car park from the moment it opens.

So yes, they've bought a freezer. Not every person buying up goods is doing it to flog them on eBay.

Joans3rddaughter · 22/03/2020 07:51

So as a dual qualified Midwife that has retired within the last 3 years I have had an email asking me to return to practice (no mention of pay incidentally).
Why would I return to put myself at risk? so that I could look after one of the many thousands of greedy selfish people that couldn't give a care for anybody else?
Don't think so.
Imagine what will happen if it becomes possible to buy a ventilator.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 22/03/2020 08:02

@Prepenultimate

I did not own a freezer! I was not buying a second freezer I needed ONE freezer for my new house. Jesus please read.

@BritWifeinUSA

Did you deliberately misinterpret my post? the person in question can not legally stop selling stuff to people. But it’s clear to him when someone is coming in and has 2 freezers already on their system and wants a third and is making it obvious why, and then he can prioritise someone who actually fucking needs it.

So many posters here are part of the problem “slowly stocking up” - over THREE WEEKS! That’s not fucking slowly. This is why people cannot buy food.

2 weeks of food for self isolation is not actually a lot of food, is it? People are just not planning what they need and grabbing whatever they can. 3 months of food is absurd and if everyone tried to do it the situation would be even worse than now! I repeat I am pregnant and supposed to be home at much as possible so I understand being nervous etc but selfishness is ridiculous

OP posts:
LuxLFC · 22/03/2020 08:07

I don't think it's ridiculous that people are stocking up for 12 weeks when the Govt specifically said older & ill people should stay home for 12 weeks.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 22/03/2020 08:09

There is literally not enough food for people do to this! Not all at once. Why can’t people understand that?

Maybe if people had left all the delivery slots to those who need them people wouldn’t need to either, rather than booking several in advance!

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 08:11

@ArtichokeAardvark So there is absolutely no one in the world who would have fetched food for him over the 12 weeks? He is totally on his own with zero people who give a shit about him?

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 08:14

And this is why there are confused looking elderly people wandering around the shops trying to buy some food to eat.
It honestly makes me want to cry that there are so many selfish fuckers out there.

Prepenultimate · 22/03/2020 08:17

But that's my point!!!! you don't know other peoples' reasons for buying so you can't judge or condemn them. Their reasons are just as valid as yours.

Whatishappening098 · 22/03/2020 08:19

The thought crossed my mind yesterday actually as my freezer is tiny. It passed though as I have no spare money anyway. Oh well. I want to use this as an opportunity to freshly cook anyway

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 08:40

Everyone always has a reason why they are different and should be able to buy and hoard 3 months of food. And it is hoarding. There will be delivery slots available in the near future. And most people have neighbours, friends, relatives that would help. Those who have no one are very far and few between.
So if you had to visit your fathers twice with a months worth of food, that would mean only one month of food being bought rather than 3 months. And only 2 potentially long drives. And supermarkets will soon have lots of food again.
People rarely accept they are the selfish fuckers causing the problems. It is always someone else.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 08:47

Idiots who advocate buying little and often should educate themselves.
People are trying to minimize contact! As they should.
Going to the supermarket every couple of days is fucking ridiculous. Stay home. Any means to allow you to leave your house as little as possible should be commended.
