CFs literally panic buying freezers!

Found this out today - refrigeration shops are out of freezers due to people buying them to stock up on extra frozen stuff!

This is bananas! Who is doing this crazy shit?!

mineofuselessinformation · 21/03/2020 20:16

Absolutely the same thing here.
I happened to call a local electrical store today because my washing machine needs new bearings, and the poor man told me had people abusing him because they have run out of stock - apparently a lot of the parts come from China, and demand has outstripped supply.

CandiceSucksCandy · 21/03/2020 20:19

I didn't know you could freeze toilet roll.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 21/03/2020 20:22

@CandiceSucksCandy

I didn't know you could freeze toilet roll

If you have a very hot curry it might be soothing Wink

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/03/2020 20:24

A lot of corner shops are buying them too to stock up on the extra stock.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 21/03/2020 20:24

@nightimebrowser

We are also moving next week and thank fuck already own the house and had appliances ordered and delivered early because I’m a control
Freak! The builders originally said to wait and I had no idea any of
THis would happen and thank god i was lucky in my timing.

@CandiceSucksCandy

😂😂😂😂

Come on everybody - SOME people aren’t being CF. But why is it always impossible
To accept on MN that a lot of people will
Be?!

BiarritzCrackers · 21/03/2020 20:26

Lots of people don't have freezers. This situation has prompted some people to buy their one and only freezer.

But people buying several, and then all the food to fill them, are a different matter entirely.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 21/03/2020 20:27

@AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff

Cheeky fucker right there!

I bought a new freezer 4 weeks ago because we are mid renovation and my kitchen will be being ripped out any day now. Glad I bought one when I did!

SometimeSomeday · 21/03/2020 20:29

I haven’t bought one, but have considered it. I would have bought one if I’d had more money.

With DH on readiness to deploy with the army and a young DD with quite full blown asthma, I wouldn’t be able to go out to the supermarket as and when he deploys. I live far from family and only have a few acquaintances here. I have no idea how I’ll get what I need once he goes.

Not everyone doing these things is being unreasonable. Some of us are in a difficult set of circumstances.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 21/03/2020 20:32

People who are trying to isolate as much as they possibly can are the OPPOSITE of CF surely?

Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 20:33

I think it is sensible to buy a freezer if you either don't already have one or only have a little one. It makes sense to not waste food, you can cook meals and freeze them so avoiding panic buying or even going out if we are in lockdown. Would you believe mine has packed up! I'm on my own so wouldn't be doing big cook ups anyway but if I had a family at home, I would want to. I'd be so worried about not being able to feed us at some point.

SudokuQueen · 21/03/2020 20:34

People on here are nearly as daft as the panic buyers.

You think a sales person can't tell a twit from a genuine case? Or can't tell when there is a massive increase in sales? It's probably blatantly obvious because the panic buyers will be stupid enough to say why they are buying them.

It's pretty clear op is also meaning the ones who have no need to buy them, but are buying two freezers regardless and stuffing full of food to last 3 months despite having no conditions. Not the genuine cases that can't leave the house for 3 months.

Stop getting offended over nothing. Hmm

Dizzygirl00 · 21/03/2020 20:36

BoswellsBollocks, the chest freezers at The Range we’re probably because they’re putting an Iceland store in there...watch this space Hmm

Annabk · 21/03/2020 20:37

An ex colleague of mine has bought an extra freezer and stocked it. She has COPD so intends to isolate for 12wks. I thought she was quite sensible to be honest but others will presumably label her a ‘panic buyer’.

Purpleartichoke · 21/03/2020 20:37

Buying an extra freezer right now really doesn’t seem like a CF move. I already had one, but if I didn’t, I would seriously consider getting one.

OhhhPeee · 21/03/2020 20:38

Where do you draw the line though? Is literally buying anything that you wouldn’t have otherwise bought CFery? I bought a desk today to work from home. Am I some sort of monster depriving little old ladies of somewhere to sit and write their memoirs?

Stuffandnonsense100 · 21/03/2020 20:38

@SudokuQueen

I thank you!

If anyone has asthma, get your repeat prescriptions in for inhalers. Visited three pharmacies today before I found one which had some. Seems people must be stock piling their inhalers. Didn’t know this was possible, and that GPs would be aware of people re ordering too close to their last prescription, but obviously not.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 20:42

No one needs extra freezer for 1 extra week of shopping...

I sooooo hope that all the shops will tell them to fuck off with returns...

shinyredbus · 21/03/2020 20:42

Where the hell are these people storing these giant freezers? Like the American ones? They’re massive. I have a garage but I’ll be damned if I have to clear it out for a freezer - nothing could make me want to clear out a garage to dump a freezer that I absolutely won’t need In a few weeks. Btw - frontline staff I totally get why they would buy one, but your average person? No.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/03/2020 20:43

Good on people for buying a freezer to know they can feed themselves or their family.

Good on them for buying a freezer in order to isolate themselves when necessary.

Buying several, stripping shelves, not isolating ‘because we are fit and well’ - and they don’t believe they are being selfish or irresponsible? Not good.

There is a world of difference.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 20:45

Where the hell are these people storing these giant freezers?

I originally thought they might use them as raised beds for kids (the chest freezers) but then I realised that they can't because they have 100 tins of tomatoes underneath the beds😂 Where would they put them?😂

SudokuQueen · 21/03/2020 20:45

I sooooo hope that all the shops will tell them to fuck off with returns...

They will I imagine, and I imagine people have bought these on credit, putting themselves in more debt when they maybe can't afford it. Sad What if they lose their jobs?

1Morewineplease · 21/03/2020 20:48

I’m sorry but much of this demand is based on greed.
I’ve seen so much disgusting greed over the last week or so. And witnessed much anger and intolerance. Everyone seems to have an excuse and seems to be able to justify themselves.
I feel so very sorry for the less able , disabled and elderly who rely on food deliveries and don’t have a spare garage to accommodate a massive chest freezer, who cannot get a delivery slot, or a single bog roll.
We should be hanging our heads in shame.
Who.... has bought all the bloody Fray Bentos and dried marrow fat peas that nobody ever bought anyway???
