Eye roll at all the posters claiming not to be part of the problem / a panic buyer but just “stocking up “ or just “ buying a little extra”
Please explain to me, what I was supposed to do, other than buy enough food so if we had to self isolate I'd have enough to feed my kids?
I don't have a lot of money, and don't usually have cupboards with enough food in to last 2 weeks. (Well, I might have done when my freezer was working but it's not now.)
When it became clear coronavirus was coming our way. I stocked up. Not in one go, but I went shopping 4 times that week to get enough in. I didn't go mental as I couldn't afford it, I'd imagine I don't have much more in my cupboards than people who have large cupboards and are well off do on a normal week, but I did prioritise long life stuff.
On Tuesday, DS got ill, and we're not self isolating for 2 weeks. Our milk will run out tomorrow. I'm very glad I don't have to go out to the shop, and you should be too as I'm now an infection risk because of my DS.
We forgot to stock up on wine (damn!!!) and we're going to be eating some odd stuff by the end of the 2 weeks. But wouldn't you rather people like me, who risk infecting you, stayed at home?
I don't have family or close friends here I can ask to drop stuff off for me and I can't afford to live on takeaway.
If you are going to ask people to self isolate, then we need to create a system that allows them to do that. Berating people for stocking up isn't going to stop anyone getting the virus. Encouraging them to do lots of small trips to the shop is dangerous for everyone.
Asking what we can better do to get food to everyone, and to make sure those who are self isolating don't need to leave the house to get food would be much more productive.
What would you have had me done differently? Do you say I shouldn't have stocked up? Should my DS be starving by now? Or should I be out infecting you all?
