Found this out today - refrigeration shops are out of freezers due to people buying them to stock up on extra frozen stuff!

This is bananas! Who is doing this crazy shit?!

I think its a sensible move if self isolating.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 21/03/2020 21:43

@cheekymango

Good luck and god speed!

I sooooo hope that all the shops will tell them to fuck off with returns...

Same. As given a month or so they will realise the stupidity and try to take them back..kind of like those cheeky fucks who wear clothes once with tags then try to take them back Hmm

No I do not mean those buying A freezer as they don't have one. Those would be unlikely to try and return anyway as a freezers a useful thing to have really. I mean twats like my neighbour, who was out proud of himself this afternoon telling anyone who would listen in his booming voice that you can hear even through walls or with door closed.. that he has 2 new chest freezers, in his lounge, full to the brim 'just incase'. Arsehole. I already fell out with him after he tried telling me I should be doing what he is doing and going round supermarkets each day when they restock loo rolls/sanitiser. His spare room is full he says. He could sell me some for a fiver he says if i can't find any. Fuck you and your thousand toilet rolls, I would rather not have any than give you profit.

PinkDaisyRoses · 21/03/2020 21:44

Our fridge freezer is on it’s last legs. Even though I’ve taken the bottom drawers out, washed them, they don’t seem to be going in properly.

I suspect in a few months we may need to buy a new one.

I hope not, but we might need to.

BatShite · 21/03/2020 21:44

Yes my message sounds bitter. I am full of rage with him right now. Hoping he forgets to shut the door of his looroll room one day and the dog rips it all tbh.

Stuffandnonsense100 · 21/03/2020 21:45

@Toomuchtrouble4me

It’s not though, and here’s why:

I am pregnant and supposed to be self isolating. The shops I have been to do not have any frozen food or pasta or rice so I cannot buy anything which lasts with any longevity and have to keep going to the shops.

Why can I not buy those things? Because fuckers are buying second freezers to hoard food in. No body needs that much bloody food!

People have gone absolutely insane. I don’t think they’ll stop until they’ve bought anything and everything!

MrsMGE · 21/03/2020 21:48

WTAF

I do not for a second believe that more than one freezer is required for anyone. There is enough space in a standard size freezer to store meals for 14 days for a family of 4 or even 5 - you have to be wise about it. I always freeze stuff and from experience know how long it lasts. Most of it, I cook myself in batches.

If that's not enough, surely there's also food from the cupboards that can be used.

There are also people who would help out, family, friends, strangers from local support groups, if somebody has to self-isolate.

It's batshit, I'm sorry. And these freezers will then end up dumped somewhere in the woods in few months' time when they're no longer "necessary" and people won't have enough space to store them.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 21:48

Just a fyi some Costcos in US said they will not take returns of toilet paper, handwash and water😂

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/03/2020 21:48

If you look for freezers on any of the online electrical stores then you will see a banner saying that they are running low on freezers.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/03/2020 21:50

Why would people be returning them? They won’t go off.

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 21:51

Someone said it was normal to have a chest freezer in the garage.
A lot of people don’t have a garden never mind a garage.
We had a larder that came in handy.

My place has a larder/pantry/cook room. When I had my kitchen redone, omfg the amounts of time I had to say leave it alone was unbelievable. Yea it would have given extra space, but a standard cupboard doesn’t work in the same way

IndecentFeminist · 21/03/2020 21:51

I had a feeling we might need more space roundabout now, about 6 wks ago. Got one for £20 off Facebook. Very glad we did! We only had 2 shallow drawers at the bottom the fridge previously and it did my head in playing Tetris every day.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 21/03/2020 21:52

One person’s “standard size freezer” is another person’s “large freezer”. My fridge freezer has two shelves. Good luck getting a fortnight’s meals for a family in that.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 21:53

@FlamingoAndJohn because people bought hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth. Preventing everyone to have some. They will try to return it to get cash.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 21:54

When i say standard size fridge freezer freezer i meant the common 2-3 drawer thing

Waspnest · 21/03/2020 21:54

Composting is more environmentally friendly...

You would say that. Grin

I agree OP. The odd sale might be due to people who don't already have a freezer but I think the vast majority are people buying a second one (or a third one or a fourth one...)

Voice0fReason · 21/03/2020 21:55

Strikes me as a very sensible move to invest in a freezer.
This is going to go on for some time, having a way to store food so fewer visits to the shops are needed, is very wise.

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 21:57

I can see uk stores changing their refund policies.

It doesn’t go off. But when they are stuck with 3 generations of hand gel, they will want their money back.

One of the people I’ve already dumped was bragging when it’s all over she will be laughing all the way to the bank cos fuck it, I can return it all.

And well done for calling the cf on the scrounge out for it. Let them know. And support the stores when they tell these people to fuck off. Or as a gesture of good will they will be it back for the same they would pay the distributor 🤣

GoodDogBellaBoo · 21/03/2020 21:57

People can buy freezers if they like - it’s really not up to you, is it? Sounds very sensible to me.

SouthWestmom · 21/03/2020 21:58

There are six of us . We have an American style fridge freezer and a small freezer in the garage. I've frozen grated cheese milk bread and some pizza and oven chips. That's in addition to the normal weekly shop - teen boys eat a lot and vegetarian sausages etc are usually frozen.

I think the message to self isolate has made people stock up. We have and I'm not ashamed of planning for not going out. The kids are already on a warning not to plough through all the food.

CheekyMango · 21/03/2020 21:59

@Voice0fReason will you be saying that when you die because there aren't enough healthy health care workers to give you adequate care when you cough your last breath?

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 22:02

I find portioning meat and freezing that way saves a ton of space. Whatever can be frozen without packaging, I do it. It’s a pain lol, but it’s frees up at least one draw.

I used to have to try and cram food for a week for a family of four in a small fridge with an icebox. I got very creative with storage. Also forces my arse to cook, mince to make burgers takes up less space than a box of 8 for example.
