So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

Tons of people out as I live next to a busy road which has still tons of traffic. All these cars must be going somewhere..

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/03/2020 15:08

People do still need to leave their homes, I still have to work and
Shop so I guess many others do too. I haven’t stocked up on food & loo roll so I have to go in store daily to see what available, I’m sure many others are in the same position.

LottieBees19 · 21/03/2020 15:20

@noeuf
Are you mad? Hospitals don’t try to scare public so are not going to make a public service announcement re body bags. I have a family member who works as a band 7 nurse and yes they are ordering thousands of body bags. £2000 for one large city hospital. Not London.
Boris did say last week we will all be affected by deaths.
Look at Italy , red the news, the hospitals have thousands of deaths.
We will be worse.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2020 15:26

I had to walk around the park on the grassy areas because the path was packed. If its going to be like this everyday now I will have to find somewhere else to walk.

I've stopped going to my local park for the same reason. I usually walk there every other day (for the past 1.5 years) but this week I've stopped because it's started to feel incredibly high risk with so many people there, most of whom aren't social distancing. Friends who went running there today tell me it was as busy as an August bank holiday weekend today. Confused

SouthWestmom · 21/03/2020 15:34

Lottie as I already posted I found a Guardian article. Haven't seen anyone scared, maybe they haven't read it.

And I don't believe anyone posting 'my best friends dog' says on any type of thread.

fussychica · 21/03/2020 15:36

Just come back from a walk as there were hoards of folk in big groups doing the same. Usually we barely meet a soul. We cut through a field to avoid everyone and came home.

Our neighbour called across and said she was off to visit family today and has lots of birthdays coming up so will be seeing them all more than usualShock. I said we weren't seeing anyone, only going shopping when absolutely necessary. She said "really, why?" You couldn't make it up. The stupidity and selfishness of some is staggering.

definitelygc · 21/03/2020 15:37

I walked up to the downs today and could see from a distance there were quite a few places still open on the high street. One pizza restaurant had people sat at the tables outside eating out of pizza boxes. I guess they're trying to claim that's "take away" Hmm Lots of Sandwich shops still open, I guess they're trying to claim they're a food shop and not a cafe. It's so frustrating seeing people flagrantly ignoring the rules while other businesses have diligently shut up shop.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 21/03/2020 15:57

Of course the NHS is buying more body bags. We’re expecting tens if not hundreds of thousands of additional deaths over the next 6-12 months. This is obvious, and to state it isn’t scaremongering.

swimlyn · 21/03/2020 15:58

@Noeuf

Temporary morgues are being erected all over the UK right now.

Where did you see that?

BBC news or BBC London News follow-on prog. About two days ago…

It's just very odd that everyone seems to know how busy everywhere is today when they are at home

Carry on with this niggling. You’ll feel better at the end.

For the repetitive disbelievers, crikey, yes, carry on shopping with no PPE.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 16:08

I'm sure everyone has very important reasons to be out and about, much more important than anyone else's reason

YeahRiiiiight · 21/03/2020 16:13

There is a huge temporary morgue in Westminster. It’s been all over the TV news.

adaline · 21/03/2020 16:17

and also the park?

Well, yes? People live across the road from parks...

adaline · 21/03/2020 16:20

Does everyone live on their local high street to see everyone in the shops that aren't essential

What's with all the niggling and nitpicking like you don't believe us?

I don't live in town but we have a dog that still needs walking. This morning, DH drove to the local nature reserve in the hopes of staying away from people and to minimise his time around others. He said they were queuing out the door at Tesco. Posts on Facebook only confirm that.

People aren't listening to what the government is saying. It's all over the news that shelves are empty - they wouldn't be that way if everyone was staying home.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 16:25

But you expect others to stay in...

adaline · 21/03/2020 16:38

But you expect others to stay in...

You're allowed out to walk your dog and exercise as long as your practise social distancing.

But nice try.

Bringringbring12 · 21/03/2020 16:39

Just been to huge Sainsbury’s As desperately needed some bits.

Very few people
Loads of stock
Everyone muted and keeping their distance

Sometimes I read mumsnet and it like I live on another planet

Bringringbring12 · 21/03/2020 16:40

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 21/03/2020 16:41

We went to the coast for a walk but there were far too many people out so we didn't stop. Will stick to walking locally from now on.

Helpwithaversion · 21/03/2020 16:45

I live in a London borough
Today alone I have seen ONLY elderly people out .....
Walking past our house in a group
We had to drive to somewhere and saw a bus full of only elderly people at the traffic lights, driving through the town only elderly people and the bank full and one couple asking for a general chat in one room with someone to go over their finances ....

It’s like they are enjoying having things all to themselves I didn’t see any other age group out except for on the drive home a couple with a pram

Armi · 21/03/2020 16:55

I drove to and then through my mother’s town this morning (to conduct a face to face conversation, with her in the house and me well back in the garden, and to leave some supplies for her to pick up after I left) and I could not believe my eyes. The market was in full swing and very busy, supermarket car parks full, people absolutely everywhere, like the last few days before Christmas. I was really shocked- I live in the countryside on the edge of a village and everyone locally has gone to ground and is taking it all very seriously. It was really frightening. I had no idea such a large percentage of the population are so fucking stupid.

LonginesPrime · 21/03/2020 16:58

I'm in North London and there are still loads of people of all ages milling about today. And only about 2% in masks.

Plus one couple where one person was wearing a mask and the other wasn't. Holding hands. Confused

And before anyone asks, I was in my car doing an essential journey.

Loly365 · 21/03/2020 16:58

Let's all who really care sign the Lockdown petition. Otherwise we are all doomed. It's already on the Parliament website. 295 000 signed already...share if you care.Smile

definitelygc · 21/03/2020 17:16

What I find frustrating is that we could avoid total lockdown if people just acted sensibly. I went for a walk today along empty back streets up to a big green open space. It was easy to stay many metres away from the nearest person. Unfortunately I saw plenty of people out playing football, frisbee and tennis. My over 70s parents have been going for walks in the countryside to get exercise and fresh air and I welcome that as they need to keep their fitness up. If people stopped acting so irresponsibly (i.e. gathering in groups) we could all avoid being under house arrest.

ooooohbetty · 21/03/2020 17:17

My city was quieter than usual. I went to the market because of the greedy fuckers stripping the supermarket shelves bare. We still need to buy food.
